Big ChocolateBig Chocolate
Notes: Big Chocolate is an imperial milk stout featuring several different chocolates, nibs, and cocoa powders carefully sourced from around the world a top an individually constructed base beer featuring chocolate, pale chocolate, brown, and roasted malts. The result is a beautiful symphony of complex chocolate flavor that is both a function of chocolate malts balanced by gently sweet lactose and overt chocolate flavors from the adjuncts used throughout the brewing process. In short, it’s a chocolate bomb. We taste and smell fudgy brownies, sweet milk chocolate, hints of extra dark chocolate, and chocolate syrup. The beauty of Big Chocolate is not only in it’s dense chocolate flavor, but also it’s unparalleled complexity that reveals layers of intriguing flavor as it warms - Enjoy!

Had on tap. Pours opaque, dark brown in color with minimal head. Taste is big chocolate milk with some dark chocolate. Heavy body, low carbonation, sweet. Really enjoyable and not as sweet as other Tree stouts. Will get again--well done.

Can from the brewery on 2021 swing. Poured into pint glass a few weeks later. Blacker than black pour. Brown head. Strong. Chocolate.

Very attractive beer, with good head production and retention.

Waves and waves of chocolate on the nose, along with more classic imperial stout notes of red grape, caramel, vanilla, and toffee.

Chocolate is the note of the day - as appropriate, obviously. There's still plenty of stout here: rich notes of molasses, toffee, and espresso. The chocolate expression ranges from sweet and dessert-like to bitter Baker's chocolate, and everything in between.

14 October 2020 - Beer #197

Price: $8.55 at the brewery

Appearance: 4 - quite black but looks a bit thin at the edges. Head fizzled away immediately.

Nose: 4 - definitely tons of chocolate but not an insane amount.

Taste: 4 - honestly a lot more stout-y than I expected. The chocolate is not front and center, it's more the side show.

Mouth: 5 - very thick and chewy. A well brewed beer.

Overall: 4 - not blown away, but it's a very nice stout.

Cheers!

Poured from a 16 ounce can. Pours a black (or very dark brown) with about a fingers worth of light brown foam. Smell is all chocolate. I don't get an alcohol smell at all. Cold, I get more of a cocoa taste, and as it got a little warmer, it started to taste a little thicker, and more fudge-like. I would say it has a medium mouth feel. Smooth, but not thin. Overall, it's as advertised. A solid chocolate milk stout.

Thanks to rudzud

Pours a darker but small fizzy head that fades fairly quickly, fair lacing but long legs as well, pitch black thick beer

Nose is again vey typical Tree House milk stout, a bit of roast, plenty of chocolate mostly milk chocolate and condensed milk, coffee powder roast notes, very fudgey, cocoa

Taste very rich cocoa and fudgey chocolate, fair nutty as well as a little coffee roast, bitter roasted malt and some bitter cocoa, touch of char but not quite, loads of raw cocoa, dark chocolate, little bitter and spicy chocolate notes, little creamy milk chocolate like, again very Tree House like milk stout

Mouth is med to fuller bod, very little alcohol, creamy foamy carb

Overall very nice but very typical Tree House milk stout

Picked up a can of this at the brewery and shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Aromas of big chocolate fudge and brownies. Nice cocoa nibs, little bit of chocolate syrup. Nice slight roast, finish almost has a coffee aroma as well. No discernable alcohol.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with more of that rich, deep chocolate. Good almost nuttiness going on with enormous chocolate flavour. There is really big not syrupy chocolate flavour but hard roasted cocoa nibs. There is layers upon layers of chocolate going on, very fudgy brownies and thick ribbons of chocolate.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy, thick, alcohol is hidden very nicely.

O - OVerall this was a VERY enjoyable imperial milk stout. Excellent chocolate levels here without getting cloy or sticky. Really pleasant.

L - all I can think of is that episode of Spongebob... really scraping the bottom of the name barrel for this one. Pours a thick, sludgy motor oil of impenetrable darkness. Crimson-hued mocha head settles into a slick, oily jell-o consistency. Nice retention. Looks like pudding. Honestly looks great.

S - huge wafts of milk chocolate immediately out of the can. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Hints of coffee bean and bittersweet dark chocolate. Some roasted barley in there as well. Sweet and fudgy. Almonds?

T - dark chocolate and fudge bitterness up front. Roastier than you'd expect from a beer literally called "Chocolate". German chocolate cake, tangy coffee grounds, and dark cherry syrup coated dark chocolate candies. Earthy and visceral with raw cacao roastiness. The sweetness sneaks up on you in the form of syrupy stickiness. Somewhat nutty with almond and walnut prominence. Mild booze shines through on the finish. Just now realizing this is almost 10%. Zoinks!

F - like a dream. Saturating, satisfying, fulfilling, creamy, velvety, silky, you name it. A divine complement to the flavors herein.

O - the name had me thinking this was just another run-of-the-mill milk stout, but this lives up to its name in a big way. Eschews full-on chocolatey sweetness in favor of a more elegantly restrained roastiness. Lots of dark chocolate vibes. Looking forward to Little Chocolate for something that won't have me digging holes in the backyard in the middle of the night after a few of these.
