Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a custom Sam Adams glass; canned on 04/06/18, code: "I THOUGHT THERE'D BE MORE." Retried 6/20/20 from a can dated 3/11/20, code "SAID THE ACTRESS TO THE BISHOP."
A: Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a three finger, chocolate malted brown head, modest retention, but solid rings of lacing. Yeast evident at glass bottom.
S: Aromas of fresh brewed, black coffee, chocolate malted, honey, molasses, and blackberry predominate.
T: Sweet with lactose flavor up front. Complex. Black coffee, dark chocolate, caramel/molasses, plum and Concordia grape. Bitterness is very well balanced with the sugar sweetness, leaving a dessert drink quality.
M: Full bodied with solid, persistent effervescence. Creamy and drinks well.
O: I am a stout enthusiast, but milk stouts are not typically my favorites. That said, this is a superb stout, milk stout or no. Very much like a chocolate malted. Kudos to the recipe writer and brewer!

Very happy to have finally tried this piece of Tree House history -- I believe their second recipe ever brewed commercially (after Julius) back in 2012. Unlike Julius this is not a paradigm-shifter, but it is a very pleasant and easy drinking milk stout that is neither too roasty nor too sweet. Good for the shoulder seasons

Very black color. Robust coffee aroma. Upfront this tastes like cold brew. It then gives way to deep cocoa with a very subtle sweetness. Viscous but not cloying mouthfeel. A quite fantastic milk stout!

Looks like a stout should with the dark coffee pour and chunky khaki head that falls to a ring. Nothing remarkable to the eye.
Smells wonderful. Light coffee, chocolate, coffee, some caramel. All pointing toward thus being sweet...hmm. a bit of roast malt but more or less in the background.
This tastes great. First of all it is nowhere near being overly sweet. It has a very comforting chocolate caramel toffee kind of candy flavor. Then the stout part sneaks out and brings a nice, classic roasty stout flavor into the mix. Coffee notes are present, light and fresh. None of the nasty burnt flavors, a bit of bitterness on the end. Nice balance of flavors, and excellent restraint shown with the sweetness. This beer is cohesive package, super smooth and clean.
The feel is towards medium. Clean, minimal aftertaste for something packing so much flavor.
This is a good one. Well made, pleasing (to me) flavor combination and quite enjoyable. This is a beer I would gladly have again. I find a lot of milk stouts to be either ho-hum or totally overdone with the sweetness. This one has controlled sweetness and a fantastic blend of flavors.

Had a leftover can from the Fall 2019 Vermont/New York trip. Cracked it open when Mom was in town because she likes milk stouts.
Pours black, brown head into a 5th annual barrel aged (rip) bistro glass. Big 3/4" lighter brown head. The aroma ticks all the boxes, mild lactose, chocolate, caramel, still a contingent of roasted malt giving a coffee impression.
Brings all the same notes in the taste. The mouth feel simultaneously brings the lactose, but not in such a heavy way that it eliminates all bitter roasted malt notes, just tempers them. Pretty easy going mouth feel, this is one of those beers that might scare the uninformed, but then be pleasantly surprised the consumer likes the beer. Mine is the old design, no sticker can. Sweet, but not "too sweet" (NWO/Young Bucks motion here). You know, very nice, very evil.
Milk nor pastry stouts tend to be anything more than one and done for me, but this one pleases both me and the ladies in my life, so I'll pick up at least one can every time I can.

Canned 8/13/21 "Nothing like stout season" stamped on the bottom of the can. Well, yes, but also no. Not exactly what I call stout season yet
Here's the obligatory non-IPA Tree House beer that gets picked up every trip. Actually there's a few this time, alongside this is a Hefe and a RIS. Anyhow, TH tends to do these milk stouts really well, super nuanced and drinkable. I've had a few with adjuncts, but let's see what this no frills approach is like
Pours a creamy mocha brown with 3 fingers of frothy dark espresso colored head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
The nose here is surprisingly robust and heavy on the roast for a lower abv, sweeter stout. I'm picking up on aromas of beechwood smoke, cocoa powder, drip coffee, roasted malt, dark bread, and even a hint of salty cured meat
Hell, this goes down super smooth. The flavor profile is beautifully layered, bringing distinct waves of roast and sweetness. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting chocolate malt, light toast, light roast coffee, a touch of fig, and beechwood smoke. The swallow sweetens up, bringing notes of vanilla cream, milk chocolate, toast, chewy caramel, and very mild smoke
A medium body pairs with very carbonation, resulting in a chewy and velvety beer. Finishes neutral in terms of dryness, with the sweet and smoky notes competing for a finish
Yet another Tree House win. This is one I'm happy to have another 3 cans of, as I feel they may make good food beers

Canned in March, 2019 so this one has some time on it. Appearance is dark, dark brown with a finger of tan colored head. Excellent nose even after almost two years, with plenty of rich, chocoloate aromas. Taste is a balance of roasty & sweet. Fairly full body. This has held up better than I would have expected.

L: A dark brown brew with a thin khaki head of average retention but minimal lacing.
S: Cold brew coffee, roasted malts, milky hot cocao by a smokey campfire.
T: Follows the nose with a wonderfull coffee and black strap molasses. Sweet but not cloyingly so.
F: Amazing body and mouthfeel for such a low ABV. Truely impressive.
O: I wish we had more amazing stouts at this ABV. It's a marvel that leaves me open for another brew afterwards.
