A tallboy, poured into a HermitThrush tulip, fresh from the brewery. This is the finest stout I've tasted in some time. Logs in at 5.6% which surprises me. Flavorful and full-bodied, THAT"S WHAT SHE SAID! (Couldn't resist.) Roasted malt, coffee (added? I dunno), maybe cocoa. If there are additives, which I generally shun, they've melded them well.

Picked up from the brewery on Thursday and poured in to my duvel tulip.

A - Pours a nice rich, dark brown nearly black hue with a good almost two finger mocha head that fades to leave a thin wispy blanket and nice lightly sticky side lacing.

S- Aromas of creamy lactose and chocolate (ala chocolate milk), cocoa powder, light malt sweetness, maybe a hint of roast.

T - Taste is very similar to the nose, chocolate milk, light creaminess, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, light light roasted notes, light malt sweetness. The finish is a lingering creamy chocolate, albeit somewhat sticky like I have chocolate syrup in the mouth.

M - Mouthfeel isn't bad, creamy, lightly carbonated. Easy drinking.

O - Overall, not a bad milk stout. Nice lactose and chocolate notes, easy drinking. Would be a fine stout to drink in the warmer months.

Poured from a 750mL growler into a shaker pint, the beer is a dark, ruby highlighted, blackish color with a frothy, light, creamy tan colored head that quickly settles into a chunky, sparse, surface coating. Aromas of dark roast coffee, sweet caramel, smoke, dark chocolate, a touch of char/campfire, and a hint of cream. Smells like a bitter, robust, rich beer. Flavors are cream forward, quickly underscored by a bitter roast coffee character. Chocolate and caramel blend in the backbone to sweeten the brew a bit further, but the scales still tip to bitter and smoky. This is a campfire beer, and a very drinkable one, at that. Tasty. Light, smooth body that is slightly dry to remain within the style parameters. The aftertaste is cream and coffee, with a touch of the campfire smoke still present. Slick, slightly bitter, dry finish. This is a good, solid, drinkable beer.

Another beer I'm pretty sure I reviewed before, but somehow it disappeared. So just bought another growler and go at it again.

Big creamy head pillowy looking, fades semi slowly with nice lacing, super dark black faint hints of molasses colored light sneaking through.

Big lactose milk, chocolate milk, powdered cocoa, light toasty brown malts and caramel, hint biscuit.

Taste again creamy lactose, milk chocolate, light powdered cocoa, creamy and smooth, hint of roasted char, light biscuit and caramel roasted brown malts, little bit of spicy hops and bitterness. Finish is dry and milky smooth but little sticky, a bit more bitterness, light cocoa powder and lactose lingering.

Mouth is med bodied but very creamy and milky, lighter but decent carb, the drying lactose on the finish leaves a milky film in the mouth.

Overall pretty nice, very creamy lactose, a bit of choc/cocoa, decent malt profile, nice light but noticeable hops, tasty and very drinkable.

Third time around for this brew. Had it on-tap before and also out of a growler once. Time to finally get this review done.

A- 750ml flip top growler (filled Nov 1st) poured to a snifter with a black body, tiniest bit of dark brown at the edges. A really large head (good sign for the carbonation) forms up to over three fingers and almost flies right out of the top of the glass. The tan head has nice retention eventually dying to a puffy, medium ring that leaves behind large sheets and webs of lace.

S- Roasted grains bring on the milk chocolate and very slightly charred notes while the lactose delivers noticeably with it's signature twang. A very smooth and clean roastiness is the overriding theme here.

T- Pretty much mimics the nose spot-on. Smooth roasted grains providing the bulk of the flavor with chocolate malts, cocoa powder, slight caramel and toasted notes combining smoothly with the lactose flavor and a slight sweetness. Milk chocolate.

MF- Carbonation seems identical to the sample and draft versions I had at a medium-high level and it comes down on the palate smoothly thanks to a silky texture from the lactose. Finishes with a fairly roast bitterness but no astringency.

I am sucker for Left Hand's Milk Stout and pretty much use that to gauge the style. This is definitely the best local example of Milk Stout I have had and perhaps second best to Left Hand so far for me. That doesn't count beers like Life Is Like and Xocoveza because those are pretty much Imperial Stouts with some lactose.

750ml swingtop growler into a Founders snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours pitch black with a nice, creamy dark chocolate covered head with great retention. Lace is spotty and patchy with excellent stick. A really nice looking brew.

Aroma of chocolate, liquorice, roast, lactose, smoke and coffee. Really robust for such a small beer.

Flavor is chocolate, lactose, fudge, liquorice, anise and a touch of coffee. A nice balance of sweet and roasty.

Feel is really excellent. Smooth and rich in the mouth and goes down super silky. Gets better and better as it warms.

As far as a milk stout goes, this is near the top. Certainly very drinkable and one of the best in the style.

Lovely example of a milk stout. Deep and dark on the pour with a slight (1/4" maybe) nougat looking head that dissipated in a minute or two. The aroma of the beer is well and concisely described by Tree House with everything roasted but the kitchen sink: Chocolate, fresh tobacco, caramel, chocolate milk and coffee bean. The palate directly follow the nose with similar notes with that chocolaty milkiness dominating. Wasn't mad for the aftertaste on this one but it's a sold offering.

Look - Pitch black. Thick fluffy mocha head. A beautiful looking beer in my Treehouse snifter.
Smell - Coffee, sweet milk chocolate, roastiness, lactose
Taste - Coffee, chocolate, nice amount of sweetness from the lactose, brown sugar, French vanilla
Feel - Silky and smooth. Awesome mouthfeel for a 5.6% stout.

Overall - Another delicious TH beer. Tastes similar to Single Shot (which I love). I would drink this everyday.

on one hand, this is an exceptional beer for bringing some robust flavors at the low abv of 5.6%. however, for me, it just doesnt come together cohesively in a super enjoyable way. theres chocolate, roast, creamyness, and individually the flavors are nice but i just find it sort of clashes on the finish and leaves something to be desired. still glad to have tried it!
