Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
In commemoration of our head brewer and co-founder’s grandmother’s birthday, we have once again brewed this super fruity yet balanced amber ale! Hints of oranges, tangerines, and stone fruit grace the palate before a sweet malty caramel character provides balance and depth. A real treat that drinks well on any occasion. Happy Birthday, Ma. We love you!

Ma is a very special amber ale brewed in remembrance of Nate’s grandmother. A fiery Irish spirit who imparted deep values of dedication to family and love, Ma was one of a kind. This beer mirrors her spirit with bright notes of citrus, pine, and soft fruit boosted by a rich caramel base and a medium body. A wonderful beer to celebrate the New England transition to cooler weather. We encourage you to drink to honor Ma, and to those whose souls we carry deep in our hearts.

Picked up at the brewery yesterday.

After popping the top it somehow started to come up the neck and over the top, so I had to pour quickly and spilled a little... anyways, pours a nice frothy bubbly thick 2 finger head that sticks to the sides of the glass like marshmallow, a hazy dark amber copper color.

Nose starts with some fresh hops, a bit earthy, little spicy, light pine, fruity almost stone fruit like, and even a bit floral, plenty of amber reddish malts in the background, little sweet, hint caramel toastiness, coppery malts mostly, with a faint citrus to go along with all that.

Taste brings more fruity hops to start, syrupy sweet malts, almost candy like with copper malts, caramel syrup, little sticky sweetness, little toasty malt flavor too, but mostly an amber malt profile. Hops bring a hint of citrus and pine, some earthy, chewy like hops but never spicy, but nice overall bitterness. Hops also bring a fruity flavor that hints at bubblegum. Finish is long bitterness, not overly bitter, nice fruity bubblegum hops, hint of citrus and even tropical fruit, chewy malts, as well as plenty of amber toasty malts, little sticky sweet but drier, and slight earthy hop profile to go with it all.

Mouth is med to fuller bodied, decent carb, faint hint of warming booze but barely.

Overall not bad, a decent hop profile, nice malt profile, nice balance, just enough hint of warming booze, a nice bitterness, tasty... but not necessarily my fav beer, esp from tree house, just a tasty beer.

From a can poured into a 20 oz Samuel Adams glass. My can actually says 6.8% abv as opposed to the 7.3% listed above.

Look: Dark brown/amber, unfiltered appearance.

Smell: Piney, tropical fruit rind, caramel

Taste: Sweet start from the malt and juicy hops, then more bitterness and pine from the hops, finishes with a lingering bitterness. Could be a better finish, but a minor nitpick.

Feel: Full mouthfeel, almost cream ale like. Excellent!

Overall: Well above average for the style, as per usual for Tree House. The mouthfeel definitely puts it ahead of a beer like Nugget Nectar for me (and I'm a big fan of NN).

Not my usual style but so far I've enjoyed everything tree house has put out so I figured I'd try it. Pours a dark reddish Amber. Nice frothy head that dissipates rather quickly. I get a lot of pine, touch of burnt caramel and a little malt. Overall a good beer.

Dark warm Amber color with a full bodied, well rounded IPA taste. What a treat!
