Centuries ago the Trappist Monks of Belgium and the Netherlands introduced this flavorful style of beer to the world and they have been brewing it ever since. By incorporating the finest European malts and authentic Begian yeast, we have created a dark malty brew. This Belgian Dubbel ale starts smooth with a heavenly finish – It’s a sin not to try it.

Appearance: Copper body with a bit of a head and some lacing

Smell: Lively orange/coriander nose with a touch of bananas

Taste: Complex flavor profile; starts out like a Belgian Pale Ale with bananas and coriander bit of a wheat beer profile as well; then the hops kick in with surprising force

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and carbonated

Drinkability: Complex and flavorful; not something to drink all night but a good brew to ponder

(Note: The Brewery considers this to be a Trappist Ale, although they recognize the abv is lower due to NC regs at this time.)

Nice to meet up with some NC BA guys today at the Carolina Brewery,this brew pours a brown/amber color with a pretty thin head that left trace amount of lacing.Big and spicey aroma of cloves and a light smokiness,taste is sharp and spicey from the beginning with a yeastiness that imparts a smokey note,I did notice an unpleasant bitterness though that abruptly finished the beer.A bold tasting brew maybe needs a little tweaking but well made.

So, Bootsy shook his booty with the brothers, they got into a seriously divine groove, and it went down like this...
Dark, rubyish red color... with a lush, beige head that simmers down swiftly, leaving a little lagoon of bubbles around one edge.
Aroma is sweetly spicy, loaded with fruit, citrus and cherries, reminds me of something, but I can't think what...an interesting air in this...
Nice heat on the tongue, good spiciness, great flavor, and smooth on the way out. Feels like a bit of a witbier, with a bit of abbey dubbel tossed in. I'd say it was a dunkel weizen, if it wasn't for the extra spiciness, coriander, cinnamon, a hint of ginger, continuto deliver. Medium bodied, with a mild, but tasty, medium finish. One has to wonder what they'd do with this, if it weren't for that pesky NC ABV cap...pop it, guys! Pop it good!

On tap at the Brewery. Deep clear amber in color. Thin, nicely-lacing layer of white lace occupies the edges. Good mix of spices in the nose, with lemon and coriander and yeasts detected. Flavor more of the same, with a candied sugar infused with spices. Medium-bodied and smooth mouthfeel. Quite drinkable. Another winner from the Carolina Brewery.

Sampled from a 64oz growler fresh from the source. To be honest I didn't know what style to place this beer in, it mimics an Abbey style and I believe Dubbel to be the closest.

Appearance: Burnished copper in color with big, foamy white head and sticky lacing.

Smell: Belgian malts and yeast scents dominate this brew with hints of coriander and orange peel. Very inviting as if they took a Dubbel and blended the spices from a Wit in. Very unique, but somehow right. Hints of belgian candied sugars in the background.

Taste: First word - Unique. Definite belgian malts and candy with coriander and orange peel. Fruity esters and some cloying with a good hop balance to bring in back into line. Finishes with some more hops to clean up the sweetness and a little dry yeastiness.

Mouthfeel: Sweet and bubbly at first with the middle possessing more body and finishing slightly dry. They alcohol warmness seems a bit off and not quite strong enough (probably due to the NC 6% ABV limit) but very tasty.

Drinkability: Very tasty and quite good. Goes down very easily.
