Often with coffee stouts the chocolate flavoring is overwhelming. From the nose to the aftertaste, this brew is wonderfully consistent in its bitter coffee bean flavor. A rich, appealing beer that suits cold winter nights.

Hot off the press for St. Patrick's Day, the West Sixth brewery shoots for an imperialized dark ale that captures the essence of all-things-Irish with a dry stout that's not so dry, that's also layered with lactose, coffee and vanilla for a Irish coffee and cream flavor that's worth getting out of bed and heading to the bar.

Kentucky Coffee its a hair's shade from complete black or opaqueness. Topped with a creamy, sandy blanket of foam, the aromas of coffee and cream are paramount on the senses. The early palate invites a taste of caramel and toffee to go along with the sweetness of heavy cream along with a robust chocolaty introduction.

While the stout continues to spread across the middle palate, its robust taste of toast char, candied pecan and bittersweet chocolates offer a calming malt presence that balances against the coffee additions. Spicy with the soilish character of coffee, the stout also gets a boost with the natural vanillans, caramels and toasted oak flavors that only bourbon barrels can provide. Its sweet and spicy finish comes with the warmth of whisky and a broad woodly bitterness from hops that seem easily like more of a coffee-type of bitterness.

Full bodied yet relaxed in texture, the beer's mild carbonation allows for the ale to carry a creamy, silky and smooth texture that assists the character of sweet cream. A medium long linger of chocolate, nuttiness and coffee house latte continue to soothe the senses long after the sip has dispelled.
