Pours a slightly hazy copper orange color with a solid one finger cream head that lingers a long time, leaving thick lacing.

Resin and pine start the aroma, with onion dominating, and a hint of citrus. Probably a lot of simcoe hops.

Citrus dominates the flavor, orange, grapefruit pith, and caramel malt carries through to the fairly piney, herbal, resiny, slightly bitter finish.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation, and a slightly dry finish. Alcohol warmth is minimal, but present.

Overall, a great combination of citrus, bitter hops, pine, floral character, supported by a significant caramel malt backbone. Solid offering!

Stopped by West Sixth while in Lexington to cheer on my alma mater in the Final Four. When I discovered they were open for the first time I had to stop by and pick up a growler of their namesake IPA.

Poured into a pint glass this beer is a hazy orange with huge white head and awesome lacing down the sides of the glass. The head sticks around a long time but there is no semblance of clarity. The smell is earthy at first while cold, warming up to a fruity hop experience but never blowing me away.

The taste definitely improves as it warms, releasing grapefruit and orange flavors over a balanced malt background. Not strongly bitter or over-the-top hoppy, but that's not really what I expected from a flagship IPA that will be canned. The mouthfeel is spot-on with just enough carbonation and a finish that doesn't leave lingering bitterness but hints at more flavor to come. Not a ground breaking beer but one that will satiate the need for a hoppy, flavorful canned beer in the great state of Kentucky.
