Gorgeous color with deep rich orangeness. Very thick strong head sits atop a very pretty brew.

Very citrus in aroma I caught tangerine, lemon, oranges and grapefruit. Suitable notes of pine itterate the hops but allow the more citrus notes to win out.

The taste follows the aromas as grapefruit, tangerine and orange creatd the forefront. Pine tones set the backdrop but dont butt in to a citrusfest.

I caught zero alcohol warmth or feel despite the 9.5 ABV making this dangerous on top of delicious.

Breaking from their norm, here comes a seriously high-gravity IPA with exquisite balance and an identity that separates from the rest. With their standard flagships behind them, West Sixth gives us a glimpse into what's possible behind the scenes of this promising Lexington brewery. And while celebrating the craftsmanship of local artist and university architecture instructor Sarah Heller, is not only inspirited by but is inspired of her influence throughout the community.

Heller Heaven pours with an orange hue to an otherwise deep amber coloration. But with the standard hoppy-haze the beer casts a charming glow against the specialized West Sixth snifter that evokes a hurry to the glass and elegance at the same time. A hearty foam stance and decorative lace begins to show the quality and substance that extends well beyond the beer's appearance.

Intriguing floral and perfumy aromas of apricots, pineapples, and mangoes quickly rise and tell the nose that this isn't your typical IPA- this one is much stronger, reaching into the juicy remnants of grapefruit, tropical fruits, and pine pull the influence of hops well beyond the anchor of malty caramel and bread.

Flavors speak to much the same tone as a waft of honey-soaked fruits evade the palate with sweetened orange marmalade, ruby reds grapefruit juice, tangerine pulp and zest, mangoes and pineapple that carry a mild caramel-soaked essence. But then there's the sharp and spicy taste of spruce that develops into the clean and gripping bitterness that's undeniable of well crafted IPAs. Then there's the confident yet understated malt complex provides more than the supple sweetness to fruit but also delivers a taste of graham cracker in a bready-dry and spicy-sweet support.

Medium bodied, yet seemingly lighter, the influence of hop resins, alcohol, and fleeting malt all help to dry the beer- odd for such a high-octane beer, yet the resiny dryness encourages a quicker visit to the glass than is recommended- this is one seductive and effortless ale.

Absolute in complex hop flavor and supple malt support, this juicy ale delivers all the fruit variation that's required for intrigue, yet the stern hop bitterness retains a sense of finesse while demonstrating bold bitterness. It's an unflappable choice for quenching the thirst of the upcoming summer season or as a fine complement to pungent Stilton cheese and deeply attentive company.

Three words... Awesome, awesomer, awesomest. But seriously, this is a terrific IPA... the alcohol content is not noticeable which, of course, could make this a bit dangerous. I'm always impressed with this brewer's selections. Thumbs way up!

The nice pale golden color and lace offered a lot of promise. Nice body too. However, the taste was a little too bitter with an almost white wine tang to it. It mellowed a little as it warmed a little, but overall, it was just okay.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some tropical fruits. Taste is bitter and hoppy upfront, tropical fruit, touch of alcohol, not much malts to speak of. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall a good beer, but just a bit unbalanced.

Thanks Matt for sharing!

Dark amber orange, off white foam. Sudsy with a lot of sticky lacing and lasting surface coverage.
Aroma is sweet, caramel malt tends to dominate with a mild vegetal note behind it.
Taste is heavy on sweet caramel malt, hops are muddled and get lost in the mix. Sticky and boozy.
Heavy body, resiny bitter aftertaste, not much in the way of hop flavor. Not my style of DIPA.

A strong pour gets me about a half inch of light tan head. The head fades to about half that in a matter of seconds, then there is just a skim on the edges. Body is a deep amber tone that is just the right darkness for the style. Nose is full of big resin based hops and a strong noticeable malt backbone. Some bready notes and orange marmalade play in the smell as well. With first sip I quickly see that this beer is a mouth filling flavor bomb. It paints the entire tongue and mouth with a nice dance of hops and malts. Pineapple upside down cake, pine resin, orange cream and fresh cut dandelion all play in the palate. This is a nicely complex and wonderfully drinkable DIPA. The most well rounded brew I have had from West Sixth.
