I dearly love the City of Liverpool, it has many great and classic Bars. A full day spent here can be a very enjoyable and rewarding Pub Crawl indeed. The Baltic Fleet should be on your list when here. It is, appropriately, very close to the Albert Dock - full of Tourists these days rather than Ships. The already well-known bar, has now recently added its own on-site Brewery.
A Grade II listed building that has been slowly, but very sympathetically, restored to something like its former glory. Unusually for the City, it has an outside drinking area. Inside, the all wood island bar has a plethora of Hand Pumps that serve many "rotating" Guest Beers, often from Independent Breweries, and all listed on nearby chalk-boards. Also available, are the Beers from the Wapping Brewery (relocated 4-Barrel Plant from the now sadly defunct Passageway Brewery), which is located on-site. Its offerings are Wapping Ale (3.6%), Cornhill Summer Ale (4.2%) and Baltic Extra (4.5%) – plus other Seasonal Beers. The Food here is excellent, very hearty fare is on offer at value for money prices. Great Service & Atmosphere. Talk, drink and mingle with local "Scouser" characters as well as visitors from further afield.
Real Ale, Real Cider, Real Food, Real Fire, Real People……Real Good!!!
Gained (#1 of 6), “Pubs of Excellence Award - 2001” from Merseyside CAMRA and Local CAMRA Pub of the Year 2000.

Highly Recommended and Well worth a visit.

Really cool building. Seemed to be a cool place, tough to get a read as we were there on a Sunday evening with maybe 3 other patrons. Was told by a cabbie that this was the best place if you like craft beer. It was ok, but I hope to find some better beer when I go back to Liverpool.

The Baltic Fleet is housed within a beautiful building directly across from Wapping Dock, and just steps from Albert Dock (the Tate, Magical Mystery Tour, Merseyside Maritime Museum, etc.) and it makes a great respite from the rain. (Side note: On my first visit a local gave me a verbal history of the area and the expansion of the docks "not so long ago" in the early to mid 1800's, reminding me that there's a lot of history here - America had barely been born at that point!). I initially found the layout a little odd (the fireplace, the arrangement of the doors, etc.) until I learned that it was actually two separate buildings that had been combined into one. There's a lot of history to it all, but I'll let you visit their website to find more - spoiler - the smuggler's tunnels have been filled in!

In the cellar they brew beer. It's Liverpool's only brewpub, and it's been operating since 2001! I think there are 7 hand pumps, usually with 3 or more of their own available, and interesting guest taps (lately they seem to like Big Bog). They also have 6 regular taps with mostly German beers to fill the needs of those who like their beer cold.

The food is surprisingly good (no offense to them, but you might not expect it); noon to 3 weekdays, and until 4 Friday through Sunday.

They do events as well: Quiz on Wednesdays, Music on Sundays, and Sea Shanty Singing on Saturdays (?).

Definitely worth a visit.

Visited in December 2014:

Decided to visit the place as we had been at the Docks pretty much all day. We found it to be a great place for a couple of beer. Good selection of Wapping Beers, plus a few others, including the outstanding Brimstage Brewing's Trappers Hat, which is what we mainly were drinking. From what I can recall, most of the beers were on Cask, served in the proper glassware and the proper temps and the prices were not too bad. The place had a good crowd and we spent the majority of our time talking to a couple of locals. I can't really add much to what the other reviewers have noted, but we visited a few other pubs during our few days in Liverpool and really found this one to be the best of the bunch. I would/will definitely hit it up again.

Visited for the first time on 7th Feb 2014. A proper old style brewpub: a no nonsense place with a good selection of cask beers, friendly bar staff and lively customers.

There was leaving party going on in the back room but we found some space at 'the sharp end' of the place which is found by walking passed the bar and through a little corridor and doorway, it's like an old snug.

I've been wanting to go here for years, but we never seemed to be in this part of Liverpool when it was open: glad we made the effort to hit it on this last trip to Liverpool.

I've been to this micro brew pub on both my visits to Liverpool, it's not got a great look from the outside.. been in a run down part of the waterfront. Inside it's a joy though with good quality home brews that are only available here. They also will have a couple of guest ales in from other Merseyside breweries.

In a good location close to the renovated and impressive Albert Dock area of Liverpool, this rather ramshackle pub stands out from the surroundings as the odd man out! Exterior is not especially encouraging, and the interior about the same, you feel it could all do with a complete clean, renovation and decoration. Bare floor boards, several rooms off the bar area with plain tables and chairs. Interesting beer selection from their own brewery Wapping Beers, and from the Liverpool Brewery - 6 beers on at time of visit plus the usual lagers. However I guess you come here for the beer not the building itself! Worth a visit when in Liverpool for the beers you might not see anywhere else, though the pub itself needs attention! Good service from knowledgeable barman.

As TheLongBeachBum said The Baltic Fleet on the Albert Docks which is now array of modern development and in the mist of the development between two modern buildings sits this Grade 2 listed building! It truly is a wonder to the sight that this little place is still standing!

The day I went it was in the mornings with a couple of friends to enjoy a nice fry up and a pint to wash it down, when I walked in the place was pleasant, quiet and generally a enjoy to be in. To note it was nice to see that all the beer was on a hand pumped, but I wonÂ’t stray into all the beers/ales because the previous review did a good job of that!

The food was to a good standard and the service was excellent and prompt. So if you ever find yourself in Liverpool doing the tourist thing down the docks, just remember that there is a nice place just a 5 minute walk down the road instead of the commercial pubs/bars actually on the docks where you will have a job finding a tipple to your taste!
