very cool beer, somewhere at the intersection of a tripel and a hefe, its very unique, unlike other belgian stuff, but built in a similar fashion. its hazy and blonde, lighter in feel than it looks, and showing about an inch of lasting white head. a nose of dusty old german malts, truly uncommon in belgian ale. the yeast also adds to this ancient sort of unearthing aromatic, its funky, short of brett beer funk, but strange and wintery spices come out to me, but i can see dried banana and even vanilla to this. the flavor is malt driven, some wheat in here and some fruity notes from the yeast, which gets very farmhouse in nature, even a slight tartness to the finish. the texture is great, its a little sweet all the way through like a tripel, but it finishes extremely dry, almost nothing left on the tongue when its swallowed. my impression of this beer is that it is probably rated so low here because it is misunderstood. it is certainly not in line with any traditional belgian style, but its uniqueness is what makes it for me. i love the yeast, and appreciate its overall quality. a blonde beer for colder weather i reckon, big fan.

A: A big rocky white head poured into the Orval glass with long lasting retention. The first 2/3rds of the beer was pale gold with great clarity, but after swirling up the last 3rd the sediment provided a murkey dark haze. the foam clung to the side of the glass with streaky vertical lacing.

S: Nice medium spicey, rustic, almost brett like yeast character with hay, lemon and floral pear like aromas. Mild saaz like hop character that rounds out the esters with noble, damp leave spiciness. Light sweetness overall.

T: With a bright hop earthy hop character in the beginning with mild bitterness the first sip is very refreshing. A banana, clove and doughy bread flavor come through next - reminiscent of a hefe yeast but with more malt character. Sweetness is low-mild with the hops helping out in the finish. The balance is between the yeast and the hops with an edge on the yeast ever so slightly.

M: Despite the high carbonation level the mouthfeel is creamy and not abrasive. Mild alcohol warming in the chest. Medium bodied with a finish that makes it feel bigger then ~6% but like most Belgian styles very “digestible” (drinkable).

O: A hoppy, yeast forward BPA thats very drinkable and makes me think of warmer days. After visiting Antwerp and seeing ads for this beer a few places I was glad to see this at a local beer store. Worth the purchase if you like the style.

Certainly Seef Bier is an original beer. It includes four grains; it looks like wheatbeer, but it has 6.5% alcohol. It has a personality and is different.

L: wheatbeer-alike; trouble; top is erasing too quickly;
S: top of the bill; smells like Tripel Karmeliet because of the haver? Fresh yeasty smell; citrus; stone; spices.
T: after such a smell, the taste is a bit thin; ofcourse I could smell this one the whole evening, but it has to be consumed too! It has some orange, it's round, with a citrus end.
M: nice follow up of smell, taste and mouthfeel; but (okay, that's personal) I would prefer a little more bite.
O: overall this is a very good, original beer; maybe its greatness is -above all- in the drinkability (which I have to explore another time; I only bought one bottle!).

Very pale in color. Fruity nose - almost like apples. Light, crisp and mildly fruity. Tasted almost like a hybrid between beer and cider.

Just a bit too light and bland for my taste.

Somewhere between a golden and a Belgian ale, sweet fruit malts dominate the aroma and taste. Airy head dissipates to soapy film. Elements of honey , butter , coriander . Delicious and smooth.

Rustic yeast aromas and coriander. In the beginning metallic taste originating from the yeast and later coriander dominates. Fruity and some tartness. refreshing and smooth. interesting quenchable beer.
