33cl Bottle: taken at the Pre-Essen Christmas Beer Festival meet-up in the Oud Arsenaal, Antwerp on 14th Dec 2012.

Looked OK, Slight haze but still a good golden hue to the body, on top a medium depth white covering.

The nose was a blend of sour notes, yeast and light malts.

The taste a little sweeter than the aroma suggested: maltier, yet with an undertone of citrus notes to keep a balance. OK rather than wooh!

Can't call it a 'bog standard' Belgian Pale Ale, as there is no such animal: but if there was, this would one of them.

Seef Bier, Belgian beer. 6.5% ABV.

A: Dull, hazy yellow, with a couple little floaty bits here and there. 1.5 fingers of fluffy head. No lacing or sheeting.

S: A nice citrus/peach skin scent. Hint of floral. Slight backing sweetness.

T/MF: Very dry. Slight lemon taste, like a hef. Really, just a basic wheat beer. Bitter, grassy backing.

Very unimpressive, given the hype on this beer, and it's return from a nearly 70 year hiatus. I think it's return from WW2 factored favorably in people's minds...

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle, into a Petrus chalice.

Very pale in color. Fruity nose - almost like apples. Light, crisp and mildly fruity. Tasted almost like a hybrid between beer and cider.

Just a bit too light and bland for my taste.

Lots of banana on the nose, but it is fairly artifical smelling, like a banana split lollipop or something along those lines. Some pale straw Pilsner malt in there as well. Pretty much describes the taste as well. Banana with very mild clove spice upfront with a semi-dry Pilsner malt backbone. A tad adjuncty on the end, along with the cloying banana. Pretty good mouth feel, has some heft and carbonation. Not bad but the dryer malt ending didn't totally mesh with the hefty more yeasty beginning.

Nice retro label on the bottle. Light yellow colour with some haze and an awesome frothy head of foam. Smell of cloves, yeast and citric. These same flavours return in the taste, though the citric is more prominent here. The mouth feel is lively yet smooth. Quite refreshing as well, partly due to the low recommended serving temperature of 3 degrees Celsius. I wonder if this cold was blocking some of the flavours, because I found this beer a little boring. The bottle says: "awarded best belgian beer at WBA", but that probably says more about the WBA than it does about Seef. The look and feel make it good summer terrace session material though.

A golden, yellow beer with a light haze from the yeast. The head is settling into a small layer.

Smell is spicy and herbal with a coriander-like nose. Some nutty and oily smells from the different grains. The yeast adds a light estery smell which accentuates the maltiness.

Taste is strauightforward, the malt base is grainy and has a pilsnermalty taste with some sweeter light caramalt layers on top. The body is light and very drinkable, mouthfeel is a little sticky. The beer is light bitter and has a light herbal but undefinable hoppy taste (to me). The yeast character is spicy and estery and reminds strongly of the Chouffe strain.
The beer has an original approach with the different grains and the 'old' recipe, but does not stand out between several other blond beers from Belgium.
