Jelly King - Strawberry RhubarbJelly King - Strawberry Rhubarb
Notes: This limited edition version of Jelly King includes a large dose of strawberry and rhubarb purees, blended on top of a mixed fermentation sour ale. In addition, we added a complimentary dose of Citra-Mosaic-Cascade in the dry hop. The result is juicy, sour, and bursting with jammy aroma and flavour that comes enrobed in a dusty rose hue. A classic combo served on top of a sour beer for your pleasure.

A 500ml bottle with no bottled on or best before date, poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.

Appearance: A cloudy guava pink colour with a two finger white head that dissipated quickly and left sparse to no lacing.

Aroma: Sweet jelly fruitiness, strawberry, peach and apricot. Mixed berry instant jello.

Taste: Very juicy, moderate tartness, lightly sour. Strawberry, rhubarb, lemon and peaches.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Really tasty stuff, and I felt that the addition of strawberry, rhubarb and dry hopping improved upon the base beer Jelly King quite a bit. Perfect for a hot summer day.

From a 500ml bottle served straight from the fridge at 8 degrees Celsius into an oversized wine glass. The bottle was picked up fresh from the brewery.

Look: The beer pours a murky reddish-orange with 2cm of bubbly, white head that fades into a partial film in about a minute. It looks like juice in the usual Bellwoods style.

Smell: Moderate strength and sweet. Fruity, pleasant, and summery. Notes of peach, strawberry, citrusy hops, and faint yeast funk.

Taste: Moderate strength and balanced. Tart upfront and sweet in the finish. Some citrusy hops with a lingering bitterness. Notes of peach, strawberry, and rhubarb with none of the elements overwhelming the palate. The finish is short, faint, and sweet. Quite nice.

Feel: Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Fizzy and drying with no apparent alcohol.

Overall: A worthy sour. Refreshing and easy-drinking for a hot summer day. There's something about the special ingredients that don't work as well as some of the other versions of Jelly King – I can't put my finger on it. I'm happy I tried this but I wouldn't buy it again.

A nice and inventive take on Jelly King. As usual, I prefer the regular (or alternate yeast) version, but this is a very nice twist. Strawberry and rhubarb are both upfront, in the aroma and flavour. The rest of it is the expected Jelly King flavours, with the fruity hop flavours a bit obscured by the real fruit addition. Exactly the kind of beer you want on a brutally hot day like this.

500ml bottle from Hafis.

Murky orange/red with minimal head and scant lacing. Light strawberry aromas. Sour strawberry candy flavours with great tartness. Minimal rhubarb to my taste. Nice body for style. Among my favorites in the series.
