Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A special edition of our classic Farmhouse Saison, this version is aged in Brett barrels for 4-6 months. Because we're such a micro operation, each batch of Farmageddon varies slightly, reflecting the small blends we do, never combining more than 8-10 barrels. In some barrels we use more Brett Brux, in others Brett Lambicus. If this all sounds confusing, fear not — all you need to know is that the refined, effervescent beer that hibernates in these bottles is a dynamic labour of love, changing and improving with time.

Hazy bright yellow color with white head. Aroma has really nice floral and grassy yeast esters, not too funky, just clean floral yeast. Taste has a light lemon tartness, quite clean but floral and grassy with meadow flowers and farmhouse flavors. Light body, medium carbonation. Overall it's a really well made, rustic farmhouse ale.

pretty cool that these are only 8 to 10 barrels blended together, i had no idea these guys were so small. its a cool beer, very good saison as it is, maybe a little less developed on the brett than i expected it to be, but its really very high quality stuff. very light pale in color, extremely active white head on it, mostly clear, just a bit of haze further down in the bottle. the aroma is really nice, light wheat, grassy hops, soft wood tannins, sweet oak, and this brett, which is delicate and farmy, rustic and drying, but maybe not all the way done. its a little more forward in the smell than the taste, and not that its not great, its just not the most dominant flavor in the beer. i get the saison strain every bit as much as i do the brett, its mellow though and nice, slightly melony and citric, pleasant, not overly wild, controlled. great grain flavor here too, it comes through the gentler yeast really nice, and there are some aged type hops in here too, bitter enough, very floral, delicate too. a well refined beer considering the process, but the brett doesnt impress me all that much. id like to try just the base saison on its own, i suspect its fantastic!

Purchased at the brewery bottle shop for around $8.00 for a peel me out of 4oz's 500ml bottle instead of a regular 650ml bottle at 6deg C in a tulip glass. Batch #9 bottled on November 2015. Says 6.5% alcohol on the label

A- Opens well and pours a 1" high white head that is gone in seconds. Very light gold colour and unfiltered.

S- Lots of brett here.

T- Missing so much flavor. Lots of brett but little else. Has a hint of a lot of good things going for it but nothing great. Orval is a better brew from this respect. Other than the heavy brett this has little else going for it. Might just be my preferences but it's thin and weak on flavor.

M- VERY watery

O- Not my cup of tea. It's a fraction of an Orval but still ok. Will not buy again unless some body and depth comes into this brew. Really disliking the 500ml bottle format. It's just an excuse to make more profit. At 500ml this brew is worth $6.00 max. I'd only pay $4.00 if I had to buy it again.

Food Pairing

This ok brew went well with...... Spicy tuna roll sushi! The soy sauce just opens this one up. A touch of salt worked to bring this brew a little more palatable.

Enjoy

December 2015 release.

Huge fluffy white head. Flavor is very smooth with Brett and also some pears are noticeable. It's good but lacked a some of the saison flavors i like.

Batch #10 from Dec 18 2015 release. Hints of lemon, grass, and apricot. Refreshing taste. Extremely complex and a really interesting beer. Stands up to some of the NW/PDX farmhouse leaders.

Batch #7 & #8

Love the funky and musty Brett qualities. Batch 5 was impressively tart, with the strongest, and most pungent Brett aromas. Current iterations are more vinous, with less of a sour and tart edge. Some stone fruit detectable. Peach and passion fruit, maybe?
