Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is a true West Coast IPA–it is pale in color, with with bracing bitterness, high alcohol content (about 7.4% abv) and a fruity/floral/citrus hop aroma. It is made from a simple malt bill: North American base and pale caramel malt. We use copious amounts of Northwest hops (Summit, Columbus, Magnum and Zythos) all throughout the boil, with most of it going in within the last 15 minutes. After fermentation is complete, we dry hop it with approximately 1 boatload of each of the same hop varieties.

On-tap at Famous Sam's, Tucson, AZ:

Pours golden with a frothy white head. Thin rings of lacing stick.

The smell is of citrus - esp. grapefruit.

The taste is of juicy citrus with grainy/bready malt holding it together. Refreshingly bitter finish.

Alcohol relatively well-hidden.

A classic example of a juicy/citric "west coast" American IPA! Very enjoyable!

Pours gold. Aroma is citrus and fresh lemongrass. Taste is similar with a slight caramel malts backbone. Feel is fairly smooth - light to medium carbonation. Overall, a good IPA.

Pours golden with minor carbonation, decent foamy head, and minimal lacing. The smell is very good, hoppy soapy nose, citrus/pine, floral. Tastes amazing, ultra fresh and bursting with flavor, very smooth hops, piney dryness/bite, cooling citrus on the back side with an easy finish. This is a superb IPA and especially when fresh, its just loaded with flavor and a great beer, good any time of year especially out by the pool, cheers.

The appearance was a nice looking hazy orange to amber color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing trickling along the glass. The smell had a floral and citrus hoppiness up front letting some light caramel malts try to balance but still the hops are on the main stage. The taste was a very nice bittersweet floral to citrus flavoring with a delicate light extra fruitiness. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but placed itself on the harshness as it rolled over my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good AIPA well worthy of having again.

Received as an extra in a trade

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice crystal clear honey hue with a big two finger creamy white head that fades slowly to leave thick rocky lacing and a dense creamy blanket.

S - Aromas of lightly caramel malts, some light dank hops, little bit of pine and bready malts. Little bit of sweetness.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. Fair amount of sweeter caramel and bready malts. Very strong west coast bitterness, good pine aspects here. Little bit of citrus and light floral notes but make no mistake about it this is a bitter pine bomb!

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, crisp, alcohol hidden rather well.

O - Overall this was a very solid West Coast style IPA. Excellent usage of bitter hops. Fun to try!

Can poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer that hangs around and leaves some nice dense lacing.

S: Pine and citrus dominate with slight herbal note, bready malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

T: Citrus, orange and grapefruit, resinous pine, slight herbal notes, bready malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, quite smooth.

O: Straight forward but absolutely delicious old school IPA.

purchased a four pack of cans while in Tucson. Asked around and this was the most well known IPA from the most well known brewery in town. I have to be honest i didn't get a ton of citrus smell, i mostly get malt and some pine. I unfortunately got nothing in regards to taste. I lived in Tucson for a long time and honestly wanted to really like this beer, but the malt and alcohol overpowered any true citrus flavor/smell i wanted to get.

Aftertaste is bitter with notes of pine resin, grapefruit peel and very dank. Perfect balance of bitter hops and citrus. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with medium carbonation and a sticky, resinous mouthfeel. This is a terrific brew.

Great all around IPA. Strong hop presence but not too bitter. This one would be great to drink with just about anything. If you like west coast style IPAs this is a must try!
