Notes: On the surface, Über Joe lives up to its name sake: it’s a big coffee beer. But as with most things at 3 Sheeps, the story behind the beer is more complex. From the full-flavored roast we developed with Colectivo Coffee, to the vanilla we add post-fermentation, to our partnership with Black Swan Cooperage and their unique “honeycomb” cut barrel staves that produce a deeper barrel flavor than typical staves — everything in Über Joe is designed to highlight its massive coffee flavor. It may be more time consuming, sure, and more expensive, but the end result is worth it. It’s a chocolatey, vanilla stout with notes of sweet baked bread, bourbon, maple candy and all of the coffee flavor you can handle.

This is Über Joe aged in Bourbon Barrels.

A fast fizzy greyish tan head leaves no ring or cap, at 55 degrees; liquid is brown with ruby see through; micro dots of lace and thin legs on swirl. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee and a hint of bourbon with boiled peanuts in the nose. Roast malt, nutty, cocoa; whispers of vanilla and coffee; cocoa nibs/ bittersweet dark chocolate; no bourbon. Medium minus body, moderate minus carbonation, lite dry oaky tongue coating; little warmth from the abv. Overall, the flavors are well balanced and the drinking is easy and deceptive for the abv; I read on line that the abv is either 12% or 14%...the bottle says 18%?...drinks/feels more like an imperial brown, and I didn’t find Bourbon in the nose or taste; still, I enjoyed drinking this beer, and would drink again!

This s nice and smooth Dark as it should be with a nice somewhat sweet aroma. Taste is a bit on the sweeter side but very nice. Good job guys ! I wonder what a blend of this and The Wolf might be like ?

Pours dark, ruby-tinted brown with a fat finger of airy, khaki-colored head that’s quick to dissipate. Moderate lacing.

A big whiff of sweet bourbon fills the nose upon opening. The aroma is very nutty when you stick your snout into it though.

The coffee is more present up front in the taste, slightly green, coupled by strong vanilla and bitter chocolate. There’s clear bourbon with mid-level alcohol burn for the style. Not as nutty as the nose, but there’s still of touch of that in the taste. A little marshmallow, amaretto and even maple, too.

Light to medium bodied with strong carbonation.

The chocolate bitterness here is phenomenal, and the vanilla and coffee play off it well. Lots of depth of taste in this one.

11/16/18 (Chicago): 2 oz 10% ABV pour at FOBAB into plastic cup. Black pour, tan head leaves nice lacing. Strong roasted coffee aroma. Very balanced taste, excellent roast coffee taste balanced against mellow bourbon, ABV and bourbon taste blended well. Maple taste appeared after several minutes. Nice creamy texture, smooth and pleasant drinking. Overall excellent offering.

Excited to try this since I like the regular version of this beer and 3 Sheeps has done some great things with barrel aging......
The initial taste was of a very well integrated coffee and barrel flavor. This was good news since some of 3 Sheeps BA beers although really good, are a little hot when fresh. As it warmed, I got tastes of the maple, chocolate and vanilla.

This was on tap. I have a bottle at home that I am excited to try eventually.

An absolute world class beer from a Wisconsin brewery that I feel is very underrated. The aromas (coffee, chocolate, vanilla and light bourbon) are intoxicating and then you drink it. All the flavors are in fantastic balance and the barrel character is just perfect; it's there but not too hot and not so faint you don't notice it. Extremely well made beer. Happy 5th Anniversary 3 Sheeps!
