Very interesting, not quite what I expected and actually named well - it’s a laid back, Off-Duty IPA. Good head on pour from bottle that lasts for awhile. Yes, an IPA with a bit of citrus/grass/honey mix but with a rather malty finish (as I said, interesting!) Good gold color, almost an amber. Just a real comfy, tasty, off-the-shelf beer. Won’t blow your mind, but I don’t think it’s supposed to, it’s just good beer. I would definitely buy a bottle again when traveling through SLC.

Poured from can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep amber color with a two finger head of foam. The head has a great level of retention slowly fading over time to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a caramel malt mixed with some bread and a hint of tropical fruits of a mango, tangerine, and papaya nature. Along with these aromas comes some nice hop aromas of a pine and citrus nature as well.
Taste – The taste begins with a smooth bready taste with some tropical and caramel sweetness mixed within. There is a citrus hop upfront which is joined by some pine and some herbal flavors later on. The sweet dries out ever so slightly all while the hop increases, leaving one with a rather smooth taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew was average to slightly crisper with a carbonation level that was normal. The feel was rather nice for the sweet, hop, and malt and made for a very easy drinker.
Overall – A pretty nice IPA with good flavor and drinkability overall and one to try if you get a chance.

Squatters best beer - by far. What's strange is their session version of this beer (Full Suspension) is very average. I know some users will probably shout out "What about Hop Rising?!?" Hop Rising is a great beer, but in a competitive market deep in IPAs, this is my go to, and I savour every sip.

Pours a clear, copper color. 2/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and decent lacing. Smells of slight alcohol, slight sweet malt, pale malt, piney hops, resin, and slight citrus hops. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of slight alcohol, slight sweet malt, pale malt, piney hops, resin, and slight citrus hops. Overall, good appearance, aroma, feel, body, and blend.

From notes taken 01/08/17:

Semi-clear fruity orange appearance. Tight frothy head, uneven surface, decadent cream color, decent retention, ringlets of fine lace. Resin, mango, sweet orange, light piney spiciness, crackers to the nose. Even more fruit on the palate, tartness subdues bitterness somewhat, arguably not enough, but still not bad for an IPA that isn’t an Imperial. Crackers also more prominent with overt rind to spiciness. Almost metallic finish, some peppercorn with retro-olfaction. Medium-bodied, moderate levels of fine but tingly carbonation.

Pours an effervescent amber with 2+ fingers of fluffed up ivory colored head. Super lacing & head retention

S: Piney, bready, a little tropical

T: Follows the nose, much dryness as well, nice mango flavor up front. Dryness, breadyness & mango as this warms, a little tangerine as well. Finishes bready, piney with woody & tropical hops as well

MF: Medium body, pretty firm carbonation, nicely balanced

Easy drinking IPA, well worth a go

Off Duty IPA looks pretty relaxed indeed - its bubbles drift lazily and the head takes off early, leaving the surface entirely empty between the ends of the glass. Lacing can't be bothered to stick around either (no pun intended). Why can't they be more like that brightly shinning golden liquid? It's highlights are tireless and vivid.

Some styles are inherently open to interpretation; there's not always a right answer. Others, however, we can definitively say should taste a certain way, that proper representation of the style requires, without exception, specific features. IPA is one of those. There is a right and wrong way to do it...

Squatters does it right. It has the requisite pine and citrus flavours, with malt lending a little caramelly sweetness but staying by and large to the backdrop. It has a powerfully hoppy bouquet but muted and pleasant herbal bitterness on the palate. Overall it has confidence but is controlled; it has a bold yet balanced disposition.

In other words, it's probably not the IPA for those that like being smacked upside the head. At 6.5% this is by no means a "little" beer but certainly don't expect to notice any alcohol. And while it has the sappy resins and citrusy acidity, it won't make your gums blister. No sir. Squatters put drinkability first and did so, impressively, without sacrificing flavour or character.

Off Duty IPA would indeed make a good companion for a beach or poolside afternoon. The overall standard for American IPAs is now so consistently good from coast to coast that reviewing them can feel almost redundant at times. Is this the best example I've tried? No. But it is absolutely something I'd buy regularly... which is something I can't say for all IPAs.

Off Duty pours a honey-amber color with dark tinges of deep peach. The head is 2 fingers, fluffy, and the lace left is busy and spotty like TV snow.

Aroma lays heavy on the armpit, also lending to some garlic and herbal notes, with discarded grapefruit rind.

Flavor, not surprisingly is more onion than anything. What follows is a touch of pine and lemon. What saves it at the end is a nice bread yeast that fades as soon as it arrives.

The feel is pretty creamy, with shots of water here and there, and a smooth dryness. It ends a bit like parchment paper.

Overall, Squatters' Off Duty IPA is one I'll generously pass on next time. Nothing here redeeming and nothing particularly interesting.

12 oz bottle. Clean orangish golden color with finger white head, good retention and rings of sticky lace. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Taste is a little sweet n malty for an IPA, just a touch of muted floral hop bitterness at the end. Thin to med mouthfeel.

APPEARANCE: Crystal clear, amber-orange. Small amount of small bubbles rising, about a finger of off white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a ring on top. Spotty lacing down the glass.
AROMA: Citrus, mostly grapefruit and orange peel. Slight bit of caramel, maybe a little sweetness from the malt. A little floral, too.
TASTE: Balanced nicely between malt and hops. Mild bitterness that comes more at the finish. Like a brit style IPA. Mostly citrus and some floral qualities. Tea-like.
FEEL: Overall, fairly dry. A little slick at first though. Medium thin body, medium carbonation.
OVERALL: Good, pleasant IPA, nothing mind blowing, but decent. Does have a kind of unique floral/tea quality that is nice.

Off Duty IPA has a very thick, off-white head, and a hazy, orange appearance, with some sporadic lacing left behind. The aroma is of fruity, yeasty, and bready characters, coming at the drinker in three equal smell points. Taste is of yeasty, white bread, and "old school" bitterness, which runs in conjunction with caramel malt (those from back in the Long Hammer IPA and Abita Jockamo heyday, know what I mean). Mouthfeel is medium, and Squatters Off Duty IPA finishes dry, mild, and wonderful!

Hazy golden pour with a minimal head. Aroma is flowery hops and honey. Taste is very light with a mild flowery hop bitterness that fades quickly. Also has flavors of bread, honey and very mild citrus. Finish has a light citrus bitterness that is nice but fades too fast.

Definitely one of the citrusy types of IPA. There's a bit of a grapefruit vibe with it, as you tend to find with kinds like this, but fortunately it's not as abrasive as it could have been.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "best by" date 11-23-15.

APPEARANCE: pours dense and hazy with a dark, golden color, one-finger off-white head with excellent retention, the head slowly dissipated until a thin, unbroken layer of small bubbles remained, there was heavy lacing on the glass, lighter carbonation.

SMELL: caramel, flowery, orange citrus, bread.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet caramel then an orange citrus hop profile and bread, the 6.5% ABV is perceptible but well hidden.

PALATE: somewhat creamy with lighter than average carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a unique beer, can't say I've had an IPA that tasted like this before, it was enjoyable and definitely different, not the greatest beer for the style but I would have it again no problem.

Appearance: A very nice pour, with a clear amber verging on golden color; the three fingers of foam stick well

Smell: Dank and floral, with a resinous, herbal orange character

Taste: Shortbread malt character, with the hops quickly taking over; the middle is sweet but with a resinous orange and slightly herbal aspect; the finish has decent bitterness but a bit too much residual sweetness

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very decent IPA out of Utah; a bit too sweet for my palate but the hops make a strong statement

Thanks, benkuhns, for the opportunity

Great beer. There's nothing that makes it stick out from the well-known IPAs around, but it's extremely drinkable, refreshing, and tasty. It's not the best looking beer. It's definitely not as bitter as a lot of IPAs, but it definitely sticks around. But it's a simple citrusy, floral, and refreshing beer. Definitely an IPA you could session in my opinion.

Clear darkish amber in the tall glass, with a modest head. Plenty of spritz in the mouthfeel. A different kind of fragrance with resins and honeysuckle.

Fruity and sweet in an appealing way. Lovely carbonation enhances the rich, mouth-filling flavor. Moderately bitter, with more emphasis on the aromatics. Dry finish with a lasting bitterness. Some dark notes, woody tannins, and a hint of mango.

A fruity and flavorful brew that is perfectly drinkable, though it's off the usual west coast grapefruit train. From the Utah State Liquor Store in Sugar House.

Best by 9/17/14. A bit old, and really unfortunate as I just bought this from the store a few days ago. I'm a bit disappointed I didn't look at the dates, as almost all the beers I got from the store were old. I guess I won't be going there anymore... also try to take that into consideration when reviewing this beer.

Pours a decent bubbly fizzy head that fades at a med pace, soapy messy lacing, fairly hazy tangerine orange color.

Nose fruity hops, faint citrus and rind, little malt character, little candy malt and candied orange, little aged hop character, little floral grassy hop note.

Taste brings more aged hop character unfortunately, fruity though, with mild grassy floral hop notes, and some citrus, faint candied orange rind. Little juicy malt character, mildly sweet with candy malt character, mild rind pithy note, and bit earthy almost pine note, and faint apple skin. Finish is drier but mildly sticky and sweet, little candied fruit and citrus with fruity notes lingering.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb.

Overall pretty decent, fairly solid ipa even with the age, but probably better fresh. Nothing spectacular though.

Pours a nice slightly cloudy yellow color, nice carbonation, with a nice little fizzy one-finger creamy off-white head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, with some nice malt notes, very slight citrus notes. The taste is slightly hoppy, catching more malts, slightly citrus. Medium body, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall a tasty brew, would buy again. Nice to see a new brew in Utah.

Reviewed during the last week when out of service area/Wifi in WY/UT. Full phone notes taken at the Watchman Campground, Zion National Park, UT.

A- 12oz bottled poured into a chalice with a fairly clear pale golden body. Creamy white head forms to one finger with a thick consistency and pretty good retention. A small ring leaves sheets and spots of lace around the glass.

S- Hops are the main player plenty of aromatics coming out of the glass from them. Melons and tangerine fruit comes to mind with grapefruit zest, floral and pine behind that. Clean yeast and just enough grains to be noticed.

T- Citrus and pine hop character picks up but I would still say a combo of tangerine stone fruit pulp and a melon note are what resonate the most to me. Grapefruit zest, orange, floral, earthy and slightly dank hints. Yeast is pretty much silent again and the malts provide a slight cracked grain hint and light sweetness.

MF- Medium bodied ale with a rather creamy texture that comes close to reaching chewy status. The bubbles have an edgy feel on the taste buds due to their high level. Finishes moderately bitter.

Satisfying to have a 6.5% brew after all of the 4% madness that is Utah brew. Melon and stone fruits are the prominent flavors with plenty of other supporting hop notes.

Chill hazed amber colored ale with a small off-white colored head. It meets the requirements to be called IPA Orange.

Smells of bitter orange and pine with and additional strong tea aroma.

Starts out savory and earthy with taste of Kava tea. Mildly sweet this tastes mostly of grapefruit and strong tea.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall a pretty standard AIPA.
