Gifted from my daughter after returning from a trip to Utah. Pours with a respectable dark tan head that lays on the body for a few moments before settling into the blackness, leaving remnants of a tan skim layer on top.

Nose has some mild fruitiness, molasses, and semi sweet fresh baked bread. The palate has modest carbonation and emphasizes pumpernickel bread and a mild roastiness. The finish fades leaving the roasty notes lingering on the back palate. I could see this accompanied with buttered Irish soda bread.

A : Dark espresso color, 100% opaque. The head is beige colored (3 fingers), and leaves hilly lacing as well as a mossy layer on top after the head recedes. Nice presentation.

S : Chocolate, almond, espresso bean. Some roast cacao nibs, as well as a faint snap of hop (roast) in the distance. I like this nose a lot. Very decadent though it could be stronger.

T : Full of flavor, with a lean towards coffee and coffee grounds. It’s pretty dirty, earthy, and slightly burnt. The burn comes from charred coffee bean. A bit of hop also peeks through. A slight metallic finish knocks some points off, as its slightly off-putting.

F : Fairly uninteresting. It’s got buoyancy in the mouth and manages to stay medium bodied. Calm carbonation with a light and easy (yet slightly burnt) finish.

O : I’d have it again. It’s got some things that if they were done right, it would have knocked this beer out of the park (on par with Dark Horse even). This is like a Dark Horse (pick any stout) lite - and I say that because I respect Dark Horse stouts - and this has a shine of that greatness but doesn’t quite stretch all the way. Unfortunately this beer falls short in a few key areas that could have really put this up on the pedestal.

Sampling right now on 3/11/15. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a snifter glass.

Pours a pitch black in color with a thin beige head. Some light spotty lacing is seen when sipped. The aroma is of malt and dark roasted malts with a light hint of burnt brown sugar also. Pretty much is said also for the taste. Finishes slight dry but is pretty smooth. Medium-bodied with lower carbonation.

Pours a very nice black/brown color, nice carbonation, with a nice fizzy light tan head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with nice chocolate/toffee notes. The taste is malty, with some dark notes. Medium body, slightly dry/bitter. Overall, a pretty tasty brew, would buy again. Definitely a nice brew for the warmer days.

Clear black colored beer with a tiny khaki colored head.

Smells aromatic. Lots of patent malt and roasted grain aromas. Scent of coffee and chocolate in about the same amounts. Smells nutty for some reason.

Starts out dry with a taste of patent malt and coffee and very smooth. Slight hint of metal here and there. faint taste of carrot and parsley. Faint sweetness this isn't quite as dry as Guinness.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall a tasty Dry Stout. No way to discuss a beer of this type without referencing it to Guinness. This is a slightly less dry and less bitter version.

The beer poured with a good color but somehow looked dirty. The smell was unpleasant and slightly sour with taste to match. Thin in body and generally just not what I typically expect in a beer that is labeled as a stout. Perhaps a bad bottle but overall, not impressed.
