Was not a fan. Very dark, small one finger head, sweet smell. Slightly thick, taste wasn't great.

I didn't quite like this as much as I thought I would, but it was still pretty decent. I expected a creamier finish due to the nitrogenation, and it had a very large head, but came out more smoky and chocolaty than anything. That's fine for a porter on nitro, obviously, but it just wasn't quite what I thought I would get. Would have to compare this to the original version side by side to really get the difference in flavors, but the original wasn't available when I had this one.

From a single past the best by date by a month or so into a nonic. Best thing here is the rich nutty flavor with just a touch of chocolate. Not much of a hoppy edge, though, and though the nitro helps with the mouthful, it's still a little thin. All in all, it's not bad.

Look: dark black/brown though still barely transparent. I poured hard and waited patiently for the head to develop but was disappointed with about a half a finger of light tan head
Smell: light caramelly maltiness with some very light roastiness
Taste: Following the nose, moderate caramel maltiness with a touch of roastiness. Little to no hops.
Feel: Light to medium body and thin, flat mouthfeel. I guess some people would call it smooth - maybe if the palate were more substantial I would agree.
Overall: One thing I tend to like about porters is that you can generally rely on them to have character. My favorites, from Anchor's creamy floral notes to Founders' huge roastiness to Sierra Nevada's assertive hops, each have a strong character. Even Deschutes' Black Butte, which weighs in on the lighter smoother side, has a number of subtle flavors that just blend wonderfully. The Polygamy Nitro Porter is too subtle, with very little substance in the aroma or flavor departments. It seems to rely completely on its "nitro" texture, which in this case just seemed like another word for "flat" - even following the instructions and pouring hard I was left with an anemic head. Anyway, if you like Guinness and the Left Hand Milk stout (the latter of which is definitely better than this) there's a chance you might like this. Otherwise I would stay away from it. The first porter I've had that was genuinely disappointing. Gotta subtract a tenth or so for the stupid name too. Ha ha...polygamy...Utah... get it?!!
