A- Dark, with red showing around the edges. It looks quite similar to their Captain Bastard's Oatmeal Stout, just a little reddish when held to the light. Nice pillowy head that lasted a couple of minutes. Small amount of lacing on the glass. I was impressed with the appearance

S- Not a strong smelling beer, but notes of roast and malt are definitely present. The head is fragrant, and pleasant to take in.

T- I was extremely underwhelmed. This beer really tastes "watery" in every sense of the word. There hardly is any initial taste except for a slight roasted chocolate as the liquid passes over your tongue. It finishes slightly dry. It was a very boring, one-note experience. Tastes like somebody poured a little roast flavor into a lighter beer, or decided to mix one part stout to one part water.

M- Very thin for a porter. Disappointing. I wanted it to be creamy because of it's initial appearance.

O- Looks much better than it tastes. It's downfall is the fact that it hardly has an initial taste, and the mouthfeel is thin. This is an easy-drinker, and could be a good way to introduce people to the world of porters and stouts. I won't order one on tap again.

Purchased refrigerated at a grocery store for about $1.50

Poured at fridge temp into a weizen glass.

Pours a deep chestnut nearly coffee brown/black with an aggressive head that settles into a thin ring and cap. 4

Off the can I get some bitter but sweetened coffee, can tell the caramel is there but chocolate is lost. Followed by a fairly roasty after-note. Off the glass is similar but heavier on the roastiness. 4

Bitter coffee and astringent forward, which gives way to a slight earthy hop bite. Chocolate is dark and bitter similar to a heavy cacao Ghirardelli bar. After a lingering of that a soft sweet aftertaste finishes out very softly. 3.5

Body is fairly light, and I'm sure much better than it's 4% predecessor. Moderately carbonated that goes down smooth and pleasantly. 3.75

Overall, I definitely expected more caramel and chocolate, but was met with more roasty coffee and hops. While not out-of-this-world, it does represent the style fairly in my opinion.
It aspires to be a Black Butte and it's certainly not my favorite porter (shout out to Melvin - Scenario) I wasn't disappointed by my sought after consumption or experience. 3.75

On nitro tap at the Wasatch Brew Pub in the Salt Lake City International Airport.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like milk chocolate and roast.

I’m not sure if nitro entirely improves this experience – I know it’s more often available non-nitro, and that feels like it might be better. It definitely tastes nicely creamy, but this delivery format seems to smooth out some of the roast, and make this a touch too sweet in the end. It’s nicely chocolatey, however, and still tastes pretty good.

This is quite creamy, and drinkable, while being a little bit thin on the finish.

I don’t hate this by any means, it’s good stuff, but I feel like it could have been better.

Pours dark coffee with slight khaki head from cold can into stein. Notes of caramel, bread, toffee, coffee, and vanilla with mild Stout IBU bite for a Porter. Decent local Utah brew under the local 5% limitation on ABV.

Coffee black with a dense tan head clinging to the glass and leaving behind curvy lacing.

Light tobacco pairs with a touch of toffee and caramelization before exhaling drying cocoa powder.

The fluffy medium body finishes fittingly powder dry.

I go to Utah just about every year to ski. Always loved the irreverence of Wasatch Brewery names. So it's a bit disappointing to write this review.

PP used to be the best Porter you could get in Utah when everything was 3.2 (without going to a package store). Now that the laws have changed to allow 5% ABV beers, Polygamy Porter at 5% is no longer on top. In some ways, upping the alcohol level seems to have brought out some skanky, caramel notes especially on the finish.

It's primarily sold in cans which means most are going to drink it straight. Bad idea. It definitely improves on pouring but not enough to make me buy it again.

Look - like dark roast black coffee.
Smell - mild chocolate, mild burnt coffee, undescribable off note
Taste - caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, malt
Feel - a bit harsh and oddly acidic.

From old, undated notes. Poured from the bottle.

Murky brown color.

Very minimal khaki head; almost no lacing.

Oats, bread & milk in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel.

Honey & grains in the flavor, but very watery. Cloying.

A disappointment.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark reddish orange with a quarter finger light khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Somewhat less head from an aggressive pour than expected from a "nitro" can. Aroma of semi-sweet dark toasted malt, vanilla, cocoa and a little coffee. Flavor is lightly sweet dark toasted malt, vanilla, light lactose, a hint of coffee and cocoa. Light lingering vanilla and dark malt. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nice light porter leaning towards a milk stout profile. Nicely balanced cocoa, vanilla and malt. A little light in body and intensity, but quite agreeable and pleasant. Humorous can art work. This can lists 6%, probably higher ABV due to buying this in Montana (or maybe the ridiculous Utah low ABV laws have changed). Undoubtedly better flavored than the old 4% one must have been.

Overall not bad. I got it on draft at a pub in Salt Lake and it looked great. The taste was very chocolatey, almost overwhelmingly chocolate, but this makes it after fun nod to Mormon culture. The aftertaste is artificial tasting.
