Appearance: This basically looks like a black lager or a very dark brown ale. Very thin, flat, and watery overall.

Smell: Some hints of coffee and caramel and that's about it. A bit minerally as well.

Taste/Mouthfeel: More vague hints of coffee and caramel. There's just not much flavor here.

Overall Drinkability: It's definitely easy to drink, but that's because it's so thin.

After drinking mostly IPAs, all night this was a good warming down beer. I would not suggest drinking it solely, but as a wind down it seems to cool the pace very well, with its low alcohol content, and its bold flavor, it doesn't leave a person craving for more.

12 oz bottle poured in a pint glass

Appearance - Pours a dark black, head dissipates quickly. Slight lacing.

Smell - Chocolate a dark malty smell

Taste/Mouthfeel - Earthy and burnt flavors, with a thin, light body. Almost no sweetness or hop bitterness. Slight chocolate flavors.

Drinkability - Very drinkable with the low ABV

Pretty standard porter, although a little too thin for my tastes. Very low ABV makes this a pretty good session beer. "Why have just one?"

Black with hints of ruby red coming through on the sides...small off white head that doesn't stick around very long. Subtle roasted cocoa with a bit of molasses and grainy tones.

Burnt grains, cocoa, hints of roasted coffee and molasses roll across my tongue. A bit of hop biterness might be hiding in the back. Overall it's a decent porter, straight up, no frills.

Mouthfeel is light and a bit over carbonated for my tastes. I could have another one of these if it was in front of me as it's tasty and easy to quaff. Bottle states, "Bring Some Home for the Wives!" Thanks to kmpitz2 for bestowing this brew upon me.

On-tap at SLC airport

Pours dark brown with minimal head.

Very subtle smell. Hard to pick up anything really, except a bit of roasted and chocolate malt.

Taste is very watery coffee, light hops and subtle earthy roasted malt. I wouldn't call it "good", but nothing offensive. A bit of chocolate on the finish.

This is incredibly thin for the style.

If this weren't so thin and watery, I think some nice flavors would come through. But I don't live in a world of "if". A disappointment.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle with twist-off cap. No freshness date. Label looks like a little orgy of some kind going on (1 guy, 7 girls). And, I love the saying on the label "Why have just one?"

Appearance: Very dark, black with mahogony/ruby hues. Head is an off-white, pillowing, foam with decent stick and retention.

Smell: Earthy, with chocolate and an almost milky aroma quality.

Taste: Very astringent, earthy and burnt up-front -- from the patent black malt. Mouthfeel is smooth & creamy while the body is light. Carbonation is tight, a bit fizzy. There's little to none on the sweetness front, in fact this beer is dry & crisp. Some chocolate pokes through, but it's faint. Hop flavour/bitterness is also faint, hidden amongst the assertive astringency. Finish is a bit dry, fairly clean.

Notes: It's just a porter. Basic, way too thin and it contains less alcohol than most traditional porters. But what do you expect from a state ruled by religion?

12oz brown with a freshness date.

LOOK: Dark brown w/ garnet highlights, decent lacing

SMELL: Caramel, cacao nibs, chicory, light raisin note, mild roastiness, mild

TASTE: Smooth, wet, mineral, grassy, toasted, roasted, Korean roasted corn tea, brown malt, herbal hop, lighter body, dry finish

For a smaller beer it does pretty good, more than enough flavor and a pinch of complexity to keep it interesting. Perfect early afternoon brew to break up the day.

Appearance: leather brown in color, small head, clear, medium carbonation

Smell: toasted malt--not the strongest smelling porter

Taste: toasted malt, a touch of hops to balance, and a bit of earth

Mouthfeel: smooth, light bodied for the style, small carbonation, semi-sweet

Drinkability: This to me is an average porter. I could have a couple. I could just as easily pass. It does hit all the style bases.

The beer pours a medium to dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is heavy on the chocolate and roasted malt with a little bit of dirt mixed in. Decent, but not as full flavored as I would have liked. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of bitter chocolate notes as well as some roasted malt. Overall, the beer is a little bit watery tasting. Thin to medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Opened 12 fluid ounce bottle, poured into Nonic pint glass.

Poured almost no head atop a dark brown mostly opaque ale.

Smell is subuded... Some chocolate malts. Taste is more forward then smell with mostly chocolate/coffee notes. Nothing remarkable, but not bad.

Nice mouth feel with good finish. Again, nothing outstanding, but not bad.

I certainly hope that porters in general do not taste this bad. If they do, there's one class of beers that I do not like. Unfortunately, this was part of the mass-beer purchase with some fellow BA's and it failed miserably.

Poured a deep dark color with a cream-colored head with a roasted nut-like aroma. I just could not stand the taste of this beer. Very thin with no body to speak of. Sad to say, I couldn't even finish the bottle.

Hopefully, another porter from another brewer will change my mind.

Poured from bottle to pint glass, black with a small head. Aroma of dark roast / barley malt / coffee, bitter finish with lingering coffee notes. Watery and thin. Not bad for a porter, but not something that I would seek out in the future. Take some home for the wives!

Deep brown in color and nearly impenetrable to light. There’s a fingernail of creamy beige on top. Heavy lacing. The aroma is tough to seek out, but with some effort i’m detecting some dark malt and dark chocolate. I’m tasting bitter coffee and dark chocolate. The mouth is very creamy and due to the addition of nitrogen. There’s also a light chalkiness.

Dark brown with a light brown high bubbly head that loudly fizzles and pops like soda carbonation as it quickly rises up and settles down.

Low aroma of dark malts, molasses, some smoke and oak.

Flavor is roasted malt and some cocoa, a little powdery and tannic. A mild charred bark nuance comes through.

Mouthfeel is slick and watery, but also finishes dry, even with a bit of a pucker. Prety average all around.

Standard brown pour, exceeds the average by having a nice 2" head on it. Big roasty aroma to it, not really easy to categorize as either chocolate or coffee.

Taste is fairly dry, a bit gritty, mouthfeel is decent, not massive, but a good sessionable American porter. Mouthfeel is good for what it is, i.e. not a big 10% imperial porter. Stays away from the Old English style of the beer, this one is hopped, doesn't have the wet wood mouthfeel, no weird Fuller's yeast, and doesn't have a watery consistency.

I also don't understand the three separate listing for this beer, I've had it numerous times, and its always been the same.
