A malty, caramel, thicker beer, with a little bite. Probably better in the winter because it has a little weight to it.

Taste Rating in Words: It's like putting a jacket on.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Clear gold-brown color, no real head or lacing. Smell is sweet and ready. The tastes has a lot of caramel notes. Probably not one to repeat but not bad.

Bottle poured into a BarrelHouse Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours rich mahogany with a frothy khaki head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little thin lacing.

S: Dark fruit, toffee, bready slightly toasty malt, and a touch of spice.

T: Dried fruit, raisins, dates, plums, and figs, big toffee sweetness, slightly toasty bready malt, nutty, and subtle spice.

M: Sticky full body, moderate carbonation.

O: A little sweet, but overall a pretty decent doppelbock.

Look: A copper - reddish color. Decent head retention. Only about a one-finger head. Very clear. 3.75

Smell: Almost no Aroma. Hints of German grains and yeast. Some caramel notes. 3.25

Taste: There’s some bite up front but not much. Sweet and malty. Caramel and tobacco. Some smokiness. Needs more hop bitterness. 3.25

Feel: Medium-llight. Thin. Slick. Flattens out quite a bit.

Overall: It's an ok beer. The flavor is decent, but is just seems pretty light / watered down. It is a higher ABV, but just seems weak and not powerful like many others.

Feel. Medium to light. Send slick and flattens out
Overall. It’s an okay beer

This beer pours a clear brown with an average head. The aroma offers up toffee, caramel, green apple, chocolate, white plum, and nutmeg. The flavor is very fruit - plum and raisin mainly - with chocolate, graham cracker, honey, banana and fig. The mouthfeel is soft and creamy with a medium body. Overall this is a delicious mix of fruity and chocolate tinged flavors - just a very easy to love beer.

Pours to a head that laces and lasts. Dark brown/ruby color. Aroma is delicious sweet malts (honey, nuts, molasses, toffee) no hops to discern. Flavor is malty and sweet. Tangy finish. Low bitterness and no distinguishing hop character. They are there but blend into the background. Feels great. Satisfyingly malty. Love this :)

At first smells a like a sweeter 211 type malt liquor. Then it tasted a bit chocolatey. But that subsides quickly and eventually just tastes like a spiffed up Hurricane. If you let it sit and breathe for a bit, the flavor comes back and then it comes out swinging tasting/smelling like a bolder Newcastle.

Dark amber body; dense, creamy head. Malty, sweet aroma; warm caramel. Much like the smell, malty with a caramel presence; balanced blending of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Heavy body; rich and warm.

A decent doppelbock yet without any distinctive qualities.

Color like a light cola. Minimal head. Minimal bubbles.
Floral and like a baked heavy sweet bread.
Brown sugary sweet maltiness. Plum and raisin fruits. Hint of cola. Just the right tart.

APPEARANCE: An opaque brown, ruby bulb up to the light. No real lasting head. Good level of carbonation when rocking the glass. No lacing.
AROMA: A bit earthy, lots of sweet toffee malt.
TASTE: Bread crust, caramel, cola, and a background earthy quality.
FEEL: Medium thick, sticky, high carbonation.
OVERALL: Almost to the chewy level, no off flavors, lots of sweet caramel malt.

A: poured into a pint glass to a reddish brown topped by a finger of dense off white head that fades to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of caramel and toffe with some banana
T: taste is toasted malts, caramel and toffee with some slight banana ester. Swallow is more toffee and caramel with lingering babana and slight spicy alcohol
M: The beer is full and silky in the mouth with soft but adequate carbonation and a semidry finish
O: overall this is a pretty good doppelbock. Decent flavors and complexity that represents the style well.

This pours a cola colored caramel. Rich, malty notes with a dark chocolate undertone. There's a bite to this that cuts across some of the sweetness. Malty without being heavy.

This beer packs a punch at 8.5% ABV and the flavor is bold with lots of malt. I'm a hop head, so the toffee & caramel bomb came off a bit too harsh. Wasatch's packaging is dope with the Devastator character on the label. I got a good buzz off the beer, but it was bitter going down the drain.

Appearance: It has a nice deep brown color to it with some amber hues. It has a nice off-white head that dies down somewhat fast and leaves next to no lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of caramel, butterscotch, some nuttiness, toasty malts and sweet dark fruit in the back.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a loads of sweet caramel, nuttiness, toasty/buiscuity malts and sweet dark fruit (mainly raisins and plums).

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas. Enjoyable Doppelbock.

Do I have the same beer? Normally I adore doppelbock but this isn't doing it for me. My favorite part is the label. "Food pairings: front of cow, back of cow, rattlesnake." Pours a deep coffee color with ruby undertones. I smell garden veggies. Coffee dominates the taste. I should know better, I think this will taste better when it warms a little.

Ruby chestnut color with almost zero head on the pour. The smell is the strongest category for me. Caramel, sweet malts, nuttiness, raisins. Taste is similar with a drying finish.

A very pleasing domestic doppel bock. The head left nice lacing on the glass. Appearance-wise the color is a nice brown. A few small bubbles rise up from the bottom of the glass. This lager's flavor is mild and malty. The mouthfeel is clean and refreshing. An excellent example of what a US brewer can do with the double bock style. Well done Wasatch! I will be having this one again.

Look was dark and smooth - no head. smell was strong, as you would expect with a dopple. taste followed suit, but wasn't overstated. Feel was lighter, malty, smooth.,

Pours a clear, dark brown color. 3/4 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of strong sweet malt, yeast, hint of hop, slight pale malt, hint of nut, and slight alcohol. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of strong sweet malt, slight alcohol, hint of roasted malt, slight pale malt, hint of hop, and slight yeast. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend, but just lacking that essential bock character to be in the top echelon.

Looks like root beer in my glass. With a proper pour into a Stein Mug I had a medium thickness, light tan color head that dissapated pretty quickly.

Smell was what I expected. Smell malts. Smells toasty. Smells slightly boozy. Has a pretty sweet bread smell.

Taste was a bit of a surprise! Very sweet and creamy like caramel. Can really taste caramel. Not as toasty as expected. Taste disappears off the tongue fast. Booze is hidden very well.

Had to take a few pretty quick gulps to figure out it has decent body and is really creamy. Sweetness is noticed right away and as my mouth got used to it, it kept getting sweeter. Drank it fast, as taste would keep leaving...

I actually wanted to have more than 1. Unfortunately, I didn't have more. It's a bit different, but in a good way. I'd buy it again. Just not for a while. I'd say it's good. Not perfect or even great. Worth a try for sure

12 oz bottle. Pours light ruby brown with a medium creamy off white head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is toasted bready malts with a little fruit.

The flavor is sweet toasted chocolate and caramel nutty malts with some fruit and a little smokiness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice doppelbock. A bit too sweet for me.

I don't normally like sweet malts, which I normally find in bocks. But I tried this on the recommendation of the bartender.

The malts are actually more smoky than sweet, with hints of coffee. I didn't get that sweet malt bite in the back of my throat. It's a pleasant taste.

But it goes away too quickly. You can taste it very fainlty afterward but it kind of evaporates.

The beer is also very flat. The taste is good but if it were up to me it would be stronger and fuller. Not a bad beer, but without a more full, lingering taste, I wouldn't go out and buy a case.
