I don't normally like sweet malts, which I normally find in bocks. But I tried this on the recommendation of the bartender.

The malts are actually more smoky than sweet, with hints of coffee. I didn't get that sweet malt bite in the back of my throat. It's a pleasant taste.

But it goes away too quickly. You can taste it very fainlty afterward but it kind of evaporates.

The beer is also very flat. The taste is good but if it were up to me it would be stronger and fuller. Not a bad beer, but without a more full, lingering taste, I wouldn't go out and buy a case.

A little bit of a maltiness to it, but not a heavy amount. There is a slight alcohol burn, but it doesn't take too much away from the beer and fortunately doesn't linger for long.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Pilsner glass
From: Utah State Liquor Store #06 in Logan, Utah
Price: $1.89
Purchased: May 2, 2015
Consumed: May 12, 2015
Misc.: Enjoy by Aug. 23, 2015

Poured a reddish, brown, amber semi-clear color with four fingers of khaki tan, frothy head that immediately started dissipating. Minimal wet lacing on the sides of the glass. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled booziness right up front, followed by caramel, plum, roasty malts, honey nuts, toffee and dark red apple. (Smell - 3.75)

Taste was slightly better than the nose, coming in with rich, creamy, roasty malts, caramel, roasty nuts, plum and very light chocolate. The 8 percent ABV is hidden. (Taste - 4.25)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This beer really grew on me. Maybe I just enjoy the style, but I was really digging it. Wish I had more than one. (Overall - 4.00)

Good doublebock, not in same class as German standards but not a bad try. I'd drink it anytime

-dark color with a very nice thick brown head
- has the classic german wheat smell but with a lot of a bit in the smell
- a smooth beer with slight hops and alot of roasted grains
-to carbonated for my liking
- good attempt at a german classic

Appearance : a cream soda/root beer colored body, topped by a 2 finger head - off white in color and leaving flicks of lacing behind. Opacity is about 30%.

Aroma : lots of toasted malt, roasted dry grains, a slight alcohol smell and slight bubble gum. A faint fruity note of banana and raisin is also detectable. Overall it smells like a strong Bock.

Taste : this is actually really good. Deep, heavy, roasted malts, charred raisin, banana peel, some burnt yet delicious alcohol, with an exceptionally dry finish.

Mouthfeel : very full bodied yet not too thick, it just swarms and fills the palate. It's really an excellent feel. It ends nice and dry. Breaths are almost like cotton.

Overall : time to invest in a six pack. Probably the best Doppelbock I've had to date, and by far the best Wasatch beer I've tried.

I have returned several times for more of the Devastator. I really enjoyed this beer. I like a good dark, full bodied taste, and this beer did not disappoint.

Color is nice and dark. Pours with simplicity, almost chocolaty.

Smell is full bodied, with several aromas. I could certainly get a hint of chocolate.

Smooth to drink, easy to sip, with a full swell of taste without the lasting after tastes of some.

Much recommended.
