A-pours a dark mahogony colored beer with a very loose small bubbly tan colored head.
S-the nose has some roasted malts, a little overly sweet caramel, very sticky hop resign aroma, pine sap, wood, oily citrus in the back.
T-the taste is similar, slightly burnt wood and malt, overly sweet caramel, very resignous, lots of sugars left behind and it shows in the feel as well. very piney in the back with sticky citrus notes and moderately bitter.
M-the feel is a little fuzzy with the residual sugars, the finish is nice, it is rather dry and crisp, well carbonated.
D-not bad, has some flaws. overly sugary and sweet with a ton of sticky malts and hops. has a decent balance and a nice finish.

From old, undated notes. Had this on draft.
Ruby color.
Minimal khaki head; no lace.
Muted nose; slight caramel & hops.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Taste is typical of the style; hint of spice & hops, but pretty boring overall.
Not great but not abysmal either. Forgettable.

Sampled tonight on 5/25/14. Bought this single bottle last week for a $1.69 as I have never seen this one before. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my bber cooler and poured into a handled glass stein.
Pours a dark brown in color with ruby highlights. About a good 1/2-finger of a beige head is seen with a good amount of lacing with each sip. The aroma is of caramel malts with some pine along with some dark fruits. The taste is complex with a lot going on of toffee, some caramel, spice with a mild bitter finish from the hops. Goings down pretty easy really. Perfect carbonation and a good brew for the colder months.

pours out a dirty mahogany colour with a thin tan head with a bit of wispy lace. deeply malty aroma throwing down a bunch of nougat, caramel and cocoa with yeast and fruitcake as an accent. the taste profile leans heavily on the layered maltiness, with semi sweet notes of dark chocolate, caramel and fruitcake accompanied by a slight citric hop juice aspect that melds well the flavours of this festive winter seasonal. a bit of bitterness wafts in and out but hop profile is there to compliment the semi-sweet maltiness, not to offset or balance the malt. another winter beer brewed to taste like a liquid candy bar. very appropriate i'd say. there is a touch of a back end band-aid aftertaste that is slightly off-putting but seems to be ok in this brew. the body is above medium with a sticky, slick and smooth mouthfeel. drinkability is average.
overall, for a winter seasonal, this offering seems rather mundane and uninspired. it definitely brings the goods and festiveness but in disjointed, unorganized way. it might be more bright and cleaner if consumed brewery fresh, but as i sip it seems somewhat muddled and dirty. i'd like to revisit next winter on the front end.
