4/24/16 (12oz bottle, Piper Down Pub, Salt Lake City) This was a step up from the Elephino Red Rock I had right before. Has all the character I love in an IPA

This beer pours a bit flat with the head dissipating quickly. Smell is not to pronounced with some citrus and buttery malt notes. I really like the taste and feel of this beer which is nicely layered yet mild compared to other double ipa brews I've compared. Some orange, pine, floral, butter, biscuit taste. Slight metallic tinge after taste. Feels smooth and slightly oily on the tongue. Not much bad to say about this one. Worth a try!

Amber in color. Aroma is not that obvious but the taste is very good. I liked the bitterness upfront and sweet notes at the end of the palette. Not for the average beer drinker though.

Best double IPA I have had in terms of smoothness, not too bitter, nice hidden kick with the abv. Smells a bit funky but I never noticed until writing this review. At $9 for a 6 pack nothing comes close. Try it I bet you'll like it if you like a mild IPA and a craft taste. My daily drink.

Somewhere in between yellow and orange this pours, thin 1/5" white head that while small, had good retention. Aroma was relatively high alpha acid bitterness c hops.

Taste was good, shelf life is good on these, this was already almost 3 months old when I had it once. Was still good and long lasting. Hides alcohol well, crystal malt there but not overdone. Bitterness substantial but not one dimensional.

Good format in 6 packs,

Pours rose-orange with lovely, spongy lacing.

The smell has some enticing layers - there's definitely grapefruit, blood orange and yeast in there, but they are mostly background notes to pronounced aromas of wet pine and earth.

Taste is much the same, but I wouldn't let that put you off if you're not a big fan of those more astringent flavors. There are some caramel and biscuit notes to be had here, as well as a rather warm, enveloping mouthfeel. Still, a tad too much metallic bitterness, for my tastes.

Pretty decent Imperial IPA, reminds me of Oskar Blues Gubna which is high praise. Pours well, nice head and great lacing, nice smell but not as overpowering as I would love, taste is nice and balanced but still hoppy - pine resin and citrus, feel is nice and creamy, overall a solid little DIPA and for the price and ABV: just buy a sixer, you won't be disappointed!

I poured this beer from a 12 ounce bottle which had an "enjoy by" date two months in the future,April 17, 2016. The head produced was small than I had hoped for and collapsed very quickly. What was produced did however leave some faint lacing on the glass. Color-wise this beer's liquid is a dark amber, which was not in the least bit hazy. The aroma was not as pronounced as I like in a doube IPA (Lagunitas Maximus is my standard). The flavor, while strong and fairly malty had a bit of a bitter aftertaste which I chalk up to the beer being past its prime. This was an okay beer, it might be better fresher or on tap.

Poured from a can, on the bottom it says "enjoy by 4/03/16". Am greeted with some flavorful hop tones and a bit of malt for a really refined, just good smell. It wasn't exactly powerful of a smell however.

The pour is pretty, with a solid copper, slightly opaque and a good bubbly, lasting head. Smell begins to open up a bit as you drink the beer, always a sign of a complex badass brewski but quite toned down for such a badass beer. The mouthfeel is a nice, mildly bitter, tasty representation of the smell. Lacing was awesome looking after halfway through and for the rest of the beer, so many rings like the Lord Of.

Definitely a powerful drink, that 9% will take you out fairly quickly if you let it. Really wet finish to me or almost soapy clean very light astringenty clean. If you know what I mean. Haha. I recommend grabbing a sixer, the stuff is cheap like $9.00 with tax included. I am drunk. Cheers! One of my new favorites and a perfect kick in the ass with the alcohol content.

A decent little double IPA with a bit of an odd nose but a nice bitterness on the palate without being overly so. Considering the price for a six pack of cans you can do worse

A Descent double and a hellz uv allot cheaper than hopslam! I poured this tasty beverage into a pint glass, it revealed a light amber hue and aromas heavily hopped. The taste seemed to me to be pine-sappy and slightly citrusy, for the ABV... it is quite smooth and easy finish overall, I give a good review for what I feel lives up to a style.... this certainly does and at a good bargain! Not as good as Mercenary but... good.... pretty good.

A rather malt-forward Double IPA. Definitely not a go-to Double IPA but it was a nice change, a little sweet a remarkably drinkable given the alcohol level.

This has a surprising sweet maltiness that I've found in other double IPAs such as Dark Horse's Double Crooked Tree. It doesn't have the alcohol flavor that some of its peers have, which is a plus in my book.

Checked into hotel (Springhill Suites) in N. Las Vegas about 1 am last Friday and this was one of two craft brew options from the fridge in the lobby (I don't recall the other). Wow, did it hit the spot after a long travel day! Great taste! Great feel. Well done!

Matte photocopier label. Kinda cool.

A : A fair amount of head but nothing too intense. Served this one in a giant snifter so take it for what its worth. On top there lies a mossy head retention like gentle river foam. The body is a (90% opaque) dark scotch glow which basically tells me that this is one seriously huge tasting IPA. We will see, though.

S : Lots of plant, earth, herbal aromas. There's also a pleasant fruitiness to it, resembling honeydew melon and fresh cut cantaloupe. In fact after the head recedes that's mostly what I smell. I like it.

T : Very strong piney hop bite right out front, with a solid baked biscuit profile that lays a good foundation. The sharp hop quickly and almost instantly mellows softly into fruit, doing away with the piney flavors and morphing into soft melon. With each sip this beer gets easier to drink and actually more inviting. It ends pleasant and smooth and dare I say, deceptively sessionable. This could be a dangerous beer.

F : Largely resin-like, dry, maybe slightly oily. The mouthfeel is not substantial on this one, and relies on carbonation and crispiness to get its point across. An easy out, but it works. The finish is unremarkable and perhaps that's why it seems so easy to take another sip. Like I said, dangerous.

O : At 9%, this beer feels sessionable and has a great flavor to it based on biscuit and melon. I was expecting a total pine bomb, but I have been pleasantly surprised. If you get a six pack you might be speaking gibberish and making drawings with ketchup bottles before you realized what you did with all of those beers. I'd have it again.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "enjoy by" date 9-14-15.

APPEARANCE: pours a clear amber color with less than one-finger off-white head that quickly dissipated until a thin, broken layer of small bubbles remained, there is moderate lacing on the glass, lighter carbonation as is appropriate for the style.

SMELL: sweet caramel, flowery, grapefruit and bread, well done, very pleasant to the nose.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet caramel, bread, grapefruit and then a piney hop profile, the 9% ABV is very well disguised.

PALATE: medium body and lighter carbonation, somewhat creamy.

OVERALL: this is one of the better DIPA's I have had, most are too unbalanced or boozy, not this one, the malt bill is more pronounced giving this beer more balance than most in the style and the grapefruit is most prominent, I really enjoyed this and will definitely buy this again.

Deep golden beer topped with a khaki creamy foam. Smell is faintly citrus-pith, earthy and flowery. Taste is citrus pith, earth, grassy. At times oniony Mild to moderate bitterness. Substantial crackery-caramel even faintly chocolate malt backbone. Medium body. Lightly creamy feel. Okay DIPA but it's too grassy-oniony, heavily malted and not enough citrus/tropical for my taste.

Enjoyed several of these from bottle, but only once on draft. This is a hoppy beer, but imho they used the bitter hops types primarily that I do not prefer. The hop aftertaste lingers, and it is bitter becoming dry. Not my favorite, but certainly not a bad DIPA. Would/will buy again, and really really would prefer it in a can although they don't seem to distribute it that way around here. My review would go up a notch if it were.

Had from a can. Slight metallic taste, decent hop aroma, powerful (yet not in a pleasant way) taste. hops and metal come to mind, some earth.

A decent beer for when your just hanging out walking the Vegas strip (haha)

Color is similar to iced tea, with moderate head retention. Lacing is moderate as well. Classic american IPA scents with caramel malts and fruity/piney aroma hops. This one doesn't particularly have a wow factor in the taste department, it certainly balances the malt profile with the bittering hops quite nicely. Certainly heavier on the palate with the strong malts and alcohol, but its not too overbearing considering its a double.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Utah State Liquor Store #06 in Logan, Utah
Price: $1.89
Purchased: May 2, 2015
Consumed: May 4, 2015
Misc.: Enjoy by July 25, 2015

Poured a light amber, auburn, slightly clear color with six fingers of khaki-white, frothy head. Lots of big bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass, almost looking like floating pulp at times. Average amount of spotty foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled lime zest, Cascade, floral, Citra, nectarine rind, resin, herbal and caramel. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted a bit better than the nose, getting rye, caramel, resin, Cascade, pine cone, nectarine rind, Citra and booziness late, but still nowhere near 9 percent. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Didn’t quite live up to my thoughts from a few nights ago, when I had four cans, but still pretty good. Nice beer for the style. (Overall - 3.75)

Served into a tulip glass from a 12oz bottle @ Squatters in the SLC airport

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and purely golden in color with a thin, white head. Leaves a nice amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell - Dank pine on the nose with lesser grapefruit character. Hard to find anything else under that dense dankness.

Taste - Follows the nose. Piney flavors met by some lighter grapefruit citrus notes. Surprisingly lacking in any prominent malt flavor. What's there is light and crackery, but it's quite faint. Not much bitterness, finishing more dank and earthy with just a touch if citrus pith. 3.5

Mouthfeel - Near full body with moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall - Pretty good DIPA, but a bit too piney for me, and ultimately lacks the complexity of some of the shining examples of the style. I probably wouldn't get it again, lest my options were limited... in Utah! :p

Look: Cooper color; completely transparent; some medium-sized bubbles noticeable. 1+ finger thick off-white creamy head that dies down leaving an even coating of foam on the surface of the beer and lots of sticky lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smell: Slightly sweet; lots of citrus; mild hoppy aroma.

Taste: Tastes similar to how its smells. Starts off smooth, progresses on to become somewhat acidic and moves on to a smooth citrusy - lemon flavor and ends with a smooth, mild hoppy flavor.

Feel: Starts off smooth, then progresses on to a slight fizzy feeling (nice carbonation), ends with slight dry feeling. Body feels kind of thin and commercial.

Overall: Overall a nice Double IPA. Nice mild hoppy flavor. Body is a little thin and ends a little dry. Though there are better, I would gladly drink this again. Very good.

Appearance: Another good looking beer from Squatters that belies Oscar Wilde's comment that Salt Lake City was the first city that ever gave ugly women a chance; pours clear copper, with an impressive head that leaves a curtain of lace

Smell: Resinous and citrusy, with caramel and alcohol coming through

Taste: Caramel tones, up front, with resinous citrus from the hop bill building; the 9% comes through, after the swallow, but the bitterness and citrus flavors dominate the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A pretty impressive DIPA from Salt Lake; a bit sweeter and boozier than I prefer, but this represents the state of Utah very well

Thanks, benkuhns, for the opportunity
