My wife and i stopped by here after dinner, it was packed and standing room only in the tiny place, so we got a growler and headed home to watch a movie. I wish i had the chance and spot to stay, as they had some intriguing wheat beers with 3 different coffee regions and the base beer available in a 4 glass flight, i need to go back for that. Anyway, the beer at hand, Kidnapped by Vikings.

Visually it looks great, tons of lacing and a large dense, healthy head. Color is a bit hazy sunburst orange color.
The aroma is mostly straight forward citrus in a centennial type of way. i have no idea what they actually brewed this with, but Centennial seems like a good possibility.
A dark orange flavor is leading the way here, the pine is lighter, a sweetness on the back end. Add a guess of cascade to my prior assumption.
The mouthfeel is medium full and slightly sticky for the style.

This one is certainly well made, and an above average IPA in the big C catagory. I had/have no knowledge of what hops were used in this one at the time of purchase, and while i personally prefer the Citra, Nelson, and other hops in those areas, this one is quite well done. remove a bit of the balance/back end sweetness and and sticky body, and this one would be really good and in the 4-4.5 range, but it is still quite above par.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass. No freshness date? SOB 2014.

A: really nice golden amber with about 2" of head with some lacing. Didn't last a real long time.

S: hints of citrus, but mostly hops. Not strongly piney.

T: not nearly as complex as I anticipated. Some grapefruit and hops and that's about it.

M: pretty light bodied with moderate carbonation. Refreshing, but not my ideal IPA.

O: Glad to have tried this. I love supporting the small breweries and thanks to a friend that picked this up for me on trade. But, not overly impressed. I'll stick with my PNW IPA's.

Appearance: Bright red with tan lacing and foam. I definitely did not expect a Red IPA.

Smell: Strong pine and grapefruit.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Grapefruit with a cookie backing. Very yeasty as well, which gives it an excellent mouthfeel.

Overall Drinkability: An IPA that Erik the Red would be proud of.

My wife and I decided to meet a couple friends out at Solemn Oath's taproom and I noticed a plethora of interesting beers on the menu. This one happened to stand out to me so I gave it a shot.

This ber pours a clear, glowing amber hue that is light on carbonation and is topped with a frothy, almost creamy, head that is off white and dissipates slowly to a rocky layer that is retained. 4/5 The aroma is nice and hoppy with a good dose of pine resin that is backed up by a white bread maltiness. A bit of butter and caramel come out as the beer warms. 3.75/5 Light caramel and white bread kick things off in terms of the flavor profile before the pine resin quickly comes to the rescue. The white bread transitions to a grainy note while the caramel disappears entirely into the pine. Surprisingly, the malt is not overpowered by the malt, instead acting as a strong 2nd lead. Bitterness is mild and lingers lightly after swallowing. 3.75/5 This is a medium bodied IPA that is light on carbonation and is lightly drying with a light lingering dryness. It is actually a bit wetting before the dryness kicks in. 4/5 This is a good piney IPA that is fairly simple in terms of aroma and flavor, but this simpleness is what makes it so effective. I can't say that it is the most flavorful or most interesting IPA that I have ever had, but it is one of the most drinkable. 3.75/5
