The Solemn Oath guys debuted this beer at the Wild Monk beer dinner so it was really cool to be the first people outside of the brewery to try it.

An imperial Belgian red ale. This was enjoyed on tap, served in a footed ale glass.

A: Pours a hazy copper color with a thin off-white head forming on the pour. It recedes quickly to a thin ring and leaves some minor splotches of lace.

S: Pine, citrus and caramel malts fill the nose initially. There is faint hint of spicy yeasty with hardier bready malts as well.

T: Definite peppery yeast presence on the taste. Nice hop profile with some grass, citrus and pine. Caramel malt sweetness rounds it out with a touch of heavy bread crust.

M: Medium plus bodied with a medium carbonation level. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel.

O: The SO guys mentioned that this was brewed with Abbey yeast which gave it the peppery, yeasty kick was tasting. The addition of the yeast was interesting and it gave the beer a nice layer of flavor that really worked. It didn't have any of those off/soapy flavors like None More Black has.

Eyes
Poured a clean light brown body with a beautiful scarlet glow. A respectable sized light tan head formed, collapsed, and left a good amount of lacing. Nice retention.

Nose
Very fruity. Emphasis on the sweeter side of tropical fruits... mango, pineapple, and orange juice. Spicy yeast. Mild presence of herbal hops. Hint of bready malts.

Tongue
Good hit of herbal hops up front. Pine was the dominant hop flavor. Sweet layers of tropical fruit mixed well with sweet malts. Much like the nose, mango and orange flavors stood out the most. There was a nice layer of spicy yeast throughout. A rather intense hit of grapefruit heightened the overall bitterness. Alcohol was almost completely masked, just popped out a bit at the end. Dry and slightly warm finish.

Mouth
Medium/full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Sweet malts made the mouthfeel slightly chewy at times.

Overall
Nice Belgian-inspired Red Ale. Unique combination of flavors. Between the relatively high ABV and the complex array of flavors, this brew packed a punch!
