Stainless steel Societe growler, filled about a week before tasting.
The body is red-brown around the edges, getting more deeply hued towards the center, where it is a rich, dark brown color, almost black. A thick, compact head forms, khaki in color. It has really nice retention; the beer did not lose any carbonation at all.
Aromas of roasted coffee, chocolate and hazelnuts come across first. Once the malts die back a bit, the hop aromas start to come across, imparting notes of grapefruit, mint and pine.
There's a lot of continuity between the nose and the flavors of this beer. Bold, roasty notes, with flavors of black coffee and some chicory-like tones. Bitter chocolate, with a dry body mid-palate. Juicy grapefruit flavors come up, with a strong pine bitterness and some mint on the end. Fairly dry on the finish.
A good Black IPA, the malt and hop profile meld together well.

A great dark ale! Reminds me of Arrogant Bastard - malty and hoppy goodness!

Had an 11 ounce pour at City Beer Market in San Francisco yesterday.
Beer was served dark brown with a nice off white head.
Nose had notes of light roasted malts and a decent amount of citrus.
Taste was light roasted malts, chocolate, and a decent amount of citrus hops. Finish was pretty clean for the style.
Mouthfeel was good, medium bodied and smooth.
Overall I liked the beer, an easy drinker. Definitely try this brew if you are a fan of this style.
