I believe on grading a beer on what it intends to do and how it effectively does what it was brewed to do. Consider ice beers for a second, beers whose sole purpose is to provide you with an experience with more alcohol than your average light/heavy lager. While I don't neglect that the flavor should be something that won't result in a peculiar face to be made when tasting, swallowing, and digesting the beer, I also try to focus on the overall drinkability of such a beverage and whether or not it can at least be taken as a serious effort.

Bud Ice is just barely passable as a beer in general, and without the heavier alcohol boost than your average Bud and a tolerable taste, there is really little else noteworthy about this offering. It was created during the time "Ice brewing" became a trend, and boy, Anheuser-Busch really jumped on that particular train, with Bud Ice, Busch Ice (which may or may not still exist, I can't find a definitive answer), and Natural Ice. Bud Ice twelve-pack bottles rarely (and I mean rarely) move at the liquor store I work at, but I managed to find a 22oz bottle from a podunk liquor store a way's away. Was pretty happy, as this is a beer I've been looking to try for a few years, but wasn't going to succumb to a six or twelve pack.

Appearance: Looks like beer, with a yellowish-brown hue overall. Unremarkably unremarkable.

Smell: Smells like an ordinary lager, with a bit more of a present whiff of alcohol and some excess grains. Again, unremarkably unremarkable.

Taste: Not bad, considering the subpar look and smell. Definitely smooth, bears alcohol over any discernible flavor, but the entire product is totally acceptable from a drinkability standpoint. It isn't bitter and harsh like Natural Ice, and doesn't bear faint chemical tastes like your average Bud Light.

Mouthfeel: Heavily-carbonated, which makes the beer lose some points for me. That sting is really unpleasant after a while.

Bud Ice is a tolerable effort, one that is a bit better than Natural Ice, if that's saying much. I like its smoothness and its surprising lack of anything bitter or harsh, but also am underwhelmed by its lack of zest or anything outside of the ordinary. To a degree, it's almost offensively predictable.

Not gonna lie every time I pick one up its just to chug after a few good beers in an attempt to catch a buzz drinks like water never takes more than 30 seconds to kill a 16 oz can nice for if you're broke and wanna finish the night up with a decent little beer cheaper than budweiser itself typucally

Ok look. A 16 ounce red bull costs 4 bucks. A six pack of Bud Ice is 4bucks. It tastes like nothing. Like water more than colors light. But 6 of them will tear you down if you need a cheap beer buzz. And without the Malt liquor crack taste.

I really don't understand why this beer is getting lower reviews than Natural Ice. It does have the same metallic smell as Natural Ice but a lot less metallic smell. For being a cheap beer I think it is actually good. I actually like it better than regular Budweiser, which costs more and is lower in alcohol content. Budweiser is my favorite of the mass produced beers but I actually think this tastes better at a lower price. Natural Ice gets better reviews than this but they are both brewed by the same company and not even a half percent difference in alcohol content makes up the difference in taste. It is fairly flavorless, but if you want a cheap beer that will get you buzzed this is it. It does not win a flavor competition, but it will get you buzzed at a cheap price and pretty much taste like water. I believe that was what the company was looking to accomplish so I belive they did a good job at accomplishing that.

Presentation: 12 oz red, white and blue coloured can with a “Born on date” on the bottom. “Ice Brewed” on the label.

Appearance: Straw color with a white head that dissipates like cheap root beer, big bubbled carbonation loses a fighting battle to keep the head.

Smell: Clean, clean and clean. Too clean, a vague cooked cereal grain aroma and that is about it.

Taste: Oddly placed light to medium body, very crisp though when it doubles with the grain flavours it becomes a bit harsh. Hop bitterness is two dimensional with absolutely no flavour at all. Slight sweetness is noticeable perhaps from the alcohol or some residual sweetness that lost its way. The harsh grain seems to linger for a while but fades quickly as soon as the beer dries up leaving an almost immaculate finish.

Notes: Somewhat hard to coax down, there are better and easier drinking American Ice beers out there. Some breweries should stick with what they do best and some beer drinkers should stick to what they can drink without making a face.

maybe this rating seems high to some, but i'm mainly comparing it to other beers within its genre (american adjunct lager). by this standard, bud ice is by no means 'awful'. it is easy to drink, has great mouthfeel, and an easy non-threatening flavor. not every beer has to be groundbreaking to be enjoyable.

Thanks to my Dad for giving me this 24oz can to try. I probably would not have given this a chance otherwise.
Poured cold into my lager mug.

A - A sunny straw colored golden w/ a head that goes from 2.5 fingers of sudsy white to a thick ring that clings to the glass.

S - Very faint malt w/ a nice honey cereal odor like corn pops w/ a light white pepper spice tinge.

M - Very weak, watery not carbonated enough to distract from the lack of flavor although it does have moderate carbonation. Slight sweetness, but not what I expected for 'beer' - Just unimpressive.

T - Soda Water weakened malt w/ an adjunct sweet flavor that is kind of corny/kind of malty w/ a round/stale blend of flavors. There is a faint vegetal flavor, but overall only minimal flavor, not enough to be offensive.

D - Not a beer I would drink more than 24oz of -just doesn't hold my interest. I appreciate a decent ice beer, but this is not Eisbock. I am not impressed to say the least. This is best used as a palate cleanser. I generally I am not a fan of fizzy and yellow, but I would rather drink this than Bud if pressed. I say avoid this it isn't worth the time or bladder space.

Poured with a large head for the style

smells very corny and sweet but plain otherwise

Tastes very sweet and the fact is balanced out by the present alcohol taste in this lighter beer

I think ice beers are under rated in general, these are high alcohol with more flavor than normal adjuncts,

The pour was about what I would have expected to be honest. Light hay colored and a big fizzy white head that quickly faded and left behind next to nothing in its wake. Aroma of corn, light bready malts and that was about it, not terrible, and within the style so you cannot really knock it terribly much. Clean, crisp flavor when served iced cold and really not that terrible. I was expecting it to be a lot worse then it really turned out. Muted flavors of corn and grain are really the only thing you pick up here at all and even that is going to almost immediately.
Overall a quick, clean, refreshing beverage best served at a baseball game but that's about it.

(25 oz can - no idea what code means - poured into a tulip pint)

L: absolutely bedazzlingly crystal-clear, golden-yellow liquid... white foam forms, fizzes, yet manages to maintain a thin cloudy cap for over a minute!

S: about what you'd expect... very weak... almost a mix between pilsner malt, simple syrup, and champagne - dried field grass and Wonder bread... vague bubblegum note... nothing offensive, but almost nothing to smell

T: remarkably clean, nothing remotely sweet - especially apparent in the aftertaste... light-moderate bitterness, but most of that is carbonic acid... bizarrely bland - I'd normally expect some kind of canned corn element atop a pale malt base and the outside of the corn can... the aftertaste has a vague corn tortilla thing, but that could be a stretch

F: tiny tingle up front... clean and somewhat glassy smooth... ultra-light foamy flow... certainly one of the drier beers of this ilk, but not sharp... one could tell, tasting blind that this has a bit more body than their flagship... quite a few burps

O: I appreciate the thicker malt constitution of malt liquors and the like, but this comes across almost as if they froze off and removed some of the beer and left the all the water... as a vehicle to drunk, it does the job, but I'd prefer a little more of what something like Old E or Colt 45 has going on... I'll sum up by saying this beer is technically impressive but sensually flaccid.

This is made by the same guys that make Bud Light? You can't tell. Is this beer anything special? No, but it's still pretty good. A good session beer. Good for a football Sunday. Good BBQ, hot summer day partying at the river...etc. And you can't beat the price. $17.50 for a 30 pack.

Wow, for a more economic brew this beer packs some flavor and unique aromas. I am pleasantly surprised by this beers flavor profile as compared with many other beers that make competition. The looks is typical, light gold straw with carbonation bubbles and a thin cap. Some spotted lace in the glass. The smell is unique from my experience with many beers. This beer has a bubble gum like aroma along with sweet yeasty white bread notes. Very pleased with the nose. Taste is great for the value. Starts out yeasty and bready and turns into a light maltiness with a pretty dry finish there is not much in the way of hop character, seems to be all about the balance this is a very light tasting beer.there is no pungent off flavors no taste of adjuncts, just a solid all around American lager flavor. The feel is light to medium but is not watery. There is a low carbonation so the beer goes down very smoothly. Id say this beer makes a nice rotation beer or good all around beer to enjoy with a meal or at a party. Its economic and tastes pretty good. I would definitely consider this beer as a everyday beer to drink. Give it a try!

It looks good with that deep ember, tastes as it smells and maybe I should have rated the smell higher but it also has a great feel, taste. C'mon people what else can you want PLUS it gets you there. I have been enjoying a few Ice style beers lately. Most of them seem to be a bolder version of the parent beer which to me is a good thing.
In this case I could see little in Bud Ice that resembled any A-B product. Maybe it could have come from Bud Light but certainly not from regular Bud.
Pours pale gold with a small white head that leaves rather quickly leaving almost no lace.
Smell is a pungent rice like scent.
Taste is modest and little in common with beer.
Mouthfeel is less than average.
Overall a disappointment. I thought it would be a bigger Bud but it was not. Recommended for those who don't enjoy the taste of beer.
Edit: 10/05/2015. Bumped the ratings slightly. I still believe this is Bud Light put through an Ice beer process. Minimal taste and very small flavor profile. This is what Bud Light fans should be drinking!

Poured from 25oz can into shaker glass. A thick white head falls moderately with some decent lacing. Color is standard clear pale straw. Aroma of grains, water, not much else. Mouthfeel is light and easy drinking. Flavor is also mild -- just some malt sweetness, a hint of corn, can't really detect the hops, but I'm sure there most be some. As a plus there is not a strong alcohol taste as with some in this style. Overall for the style it is really not bad.

For having only a half a percent more alcohol than the standard Budweiser, this has notably more malt on the palate and a bit more girth in the mouth. Hmmmm. It's also slightly darker in color, and I think perhaps the head retention might be better as well.

Otherwise, it seems pretty much the same. It's sweet like Bud without becoming cloying, and still offers the signature yeastiness of a kiss of light apple. It's fairly well-balanced and surprisingly drinkable while cold.

Served from a can in a tumbler.

While I was picking up a can of Bud Light Lime Appale-Ahhhh-Rita (was that the right number of H's there?), I spied a can of Bud Ice and remembered I'd never tried it. Time to change that. This stuff pours a clear straw topped by a finger of relatively short-lived white foam. The nose barely exists, though I think some processed cereal grains and hard water come through. Maybe. I don't know, though. The taste resembles your usual Bud Light, with some processed corn, hard water, and mild biscuit-like sweetness, though a hint of extra booze is in there (it's not terribly perceptible, but it's there on occasion). The body is a light medium, with a moderate carbonation and a somewhat watery feel. Overall, this is your basic booze-boosted adjunct lager, not really bad, per se, but decidedly boring and tedious.

Poured into an Irish pint glass.

Look: The body is perfectly clear and golden with slowly rising bubbles. The head is white and dissipates to a fine wisp and a white ring around the edge of the glass. Very light spots of lacing remain on the glass.

Aroma: Some metallic notes, otherwise very sweet with corn adjuncts coming through.

Taste: Pretty bland with a cardboard and papery body. Slightly sweet, slightly metallic especially in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Light and dry.

Overall: Comparing this to all other AALs, I see nothing offensive about this at all. In fact, it tastes almost like every other American Adjunct Lager out there. I have a feeling that when people rate these cheap macro adjuncts, they rate them compared to the DIIPAs and 10% barrel aged imperial stouts that they love.

This is easily the most drinkable ice beer I have ever had. It did not have much flavor to srart out with other than grain and corn, but the taste was smoothe and not to intrusive. This is definantly a beer to get wasted on and not to seriously drink. Bud dry is much better as far as an AB beer goes. But if I were you, I'd stick to the Sierra Nevada's or Stone's of the world if you want new exciting beers! Cheerz

25 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 3/7/2018. Pours crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. A bit too fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Okay aromas with pale malt/grain and mild earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness of pale malt/grain and mild earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Very clean lager flavors; minimal fruitiness. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. A bit thin, but not watery finish. Lightly increasing warmth of alcohol after the finish. Overall this is a solid iced pale adjunct lager. All around good robustness of pale malt/grain and mild earthy hop flavors; smooth, crisp, clean, and easy to drink. Feels about the same as Bud Heavy, with more alcohol and a bit more body. Not quite refreshing, but was expected. Clean pale malt/grains and mild earthy hop balance as expected. An enjoyable offering.
