Precious was going to the store, and I mentioned a specific beer. Evidently they were out of that, and I was out gardening and didn't get her text. So she got this. I like to try new things. I'm the first one in the pool. I love the craft beer industry's creativity so I thought this would be cool. It wasn't. It hardly had any grapefruit taste (which is actually a good thing; bleck) or smell. It was almost like a nuthin' shandy.

This is a good beer and a good grapefruit beer but i'd say it ranks lower than most other grapefruit beers i've had. It's good but just ok as opposed to others that are really good. I was hoping it would be better since i bought the mixer 12-pack mostly for just this beer.

Pours a clear, copper color. One inch head of an off-white color. Decent retention and slight lacing. Smells of grapefruit, slight pale malt, hint of hops, hint of ginger. Fits the style of a Fruit / Vegetable Beer. Mouth feel sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a strong dryness and slight metallic feel. Tastes of strong grapefruit, hint of pale malt, hint of hops, and a hint of sweet malt. Overall, mostly citrus, much too sharp, metallic feel is detrimental, and weak appearance.

I like grapefruited beers, but this was just OK. I did not like it as much as Leinenkugels Grapefruit Shandy. This was a bit more artificial tasting like the other Sock Tops I've tried. Your basic summer fruited wheat beer but not as good as craft beers getting creative, more like other wannabees me-tooing the category.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear orange color. Smells of grapefruit and wheat. Taste of strong grapefruit and mild wheat with a slightly tart finish. Overall not that bad.

Pours a frosty dark orange with a minimal off-white head. Head is bubbly and disappears quickly. No lacing left behind. Aroma is of grapefruit first, which is a bit sour and puckering. Also notes of lemon zest and earthy hops. Taste has a biscuit malt base tone with grapefruit coming in over the top. The grapefruit doesn't feel quite ripe, and isn't done the best. A little lemon zest, a little pepper zest, and metallic taste notes as well. Mouth feel is on the thin side and a bit watery. The carbonation feels a bit harsh, but I'm usually pretty sensitive to that. Overall, it's an okay beer. I'd reach for a different grapefruit beer if I were given the choice.

Served in a 12oz pint glass.

Appearance : pours a honey golden body with a fairly short lived 2 finger head. Head entirely disperses after a couple minutes.

Aroma : Ruby Red Squirt.

Taste : Thankfully not as saccharine as the smell, it lays a dried wheat foundation with squirts of grapefruit, orange, and other citrus. By itself out of the bottle it's rather boring and flavorless, but once it's poured and enjoyed with a small meal of vegetables and tuna salad, it really shines.

Feel is carbonated, can't explain much more than that. It lays a wet feel on the tongue and doesn't really do much beyond that.

Overall, Summer Grapefruit is a fun beer to have, but honestly it even falls short of "grill out" status as I've already tried that with this beer (bringing a sixer and taking one home for review) and being underwhelmed. For that reason, I can't really think of any reason to purchase this beer again.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden yellow color with very little head. It smelled of grapefruit and toasted caramel. Sweet caramel taste with a a hint of tartness from the grapefruit.

Hits the glass is a hazy and slightly pink to reddish orange in color, it basically looks like a grapefruit. A small to medium head with decent retention forms and laces just a bit. Strong grapefruit scents waft out of the glass and give an overall impression of grapefruit soda. Light bits of orange, maybe a little blood orange, are also intermingled in the smell. Frankly, it smells delicious and reminds me of summer.

The beer hits the tongue in a slightly watery and dulled version of its scent. The grapefruit is there, but it is not nearly as vibrant and strong as in the smell. The sweetness and juiciness of the scent is pretty much cut in half here and the grapefruit is just very subdued. It still displays a sweetness and thirst quenching quality, but the back end also has a bit of dull and lightly bitter aftertaste. As far as weight goes, this one is light on the tongue and a little thin. It is easy to drink and would be great for a hot summer day, but not as satisfying as a traditional shandy.

Overall, I'm a little disappointed with this beer and wish that they did it a little more like a Stiegl Radler than just a Shock Top with light fruit additions. The scent is wonderful, if only the taste would match it.

Talk about a beer that puts off a totally different smell than taste. Smells like tainted grapefruit but has a wonderfully smooth, silky taste with a milky consistency. Doesn't crush the palette with unpalatable bitterness like Grapefruit Sculpin and doesn't taste too artificial or watery. Destined to be an underrated pick for the summer because of its inclusion in variety packs instead of by its lonely.

AB might've been better to subject Lemon Shandy to the variety pack exclusive treatment and take a gamble with this one by itself in a year dominated by grapefruit and watermelon in beer.
