look: 2.5 | smell: 2 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Poured from 40 oz. bottle into pint glass

Appearance – A medium golden color with a slightly off white head upon pouring. The head faded fast and gave way to the light film and very little lacing.

Smell – Some corn and a bit of malty bread. Both lighter and mild.

Taste – The taste is mainly bready with a bit of biscuit and corn. A bit of sweetness is present initially then fades a bit toward the middle of the taste only to come back more at the end of the taste. With the sweetness that comes at the end, a alcohol flavor also comes in giving a little bit of “burn” aftertaste. While the sweetness is there throughout, it is not as sweet as many malt liquors out there and dryer in flavor.

Mouthfeel – Very light for an 8.1 % abv beer. The body is more like a standard 5% lager; light with a higher level of carbonation.

Overall – What can I say, kind of a standard malt liquor in flavor only a bit lighter in sweetness and body. It is very easy to drink due to its lighter qualities (sweetness body), although that may not be a good thing due to its heavier qualities (abv.)

All said and done this beer is great. If your homeless like me. On a good day I can make about $30 by pan-handling, on average more like $9, this beer is perfect. Being a lifetime alcoholic three of these bad boys (about $3,50) got me wicked friggin buzzed khed. For what Hurricane is, it's worth the price. It allows me to sleep drunkenly in below freezing temperatures, deal with my painful gout, teeth and side effects of hepatitis. This is the best bum beer ever. While some of my rival fellow bums spend up
To $5.00 on steel reserves and 4loko, I can get piss drunk off three cans for less than four bucks and still afford a couple mcChickens and a hit of dope. God bless America. "Hurricane, the homeless' Heady Toper"

Considering what this is and how unbelievably cheap it is, it's a miracle. Like Jesus Christ himself turned piss into golden barley pop. It's really, really sweet, bit it's not offensive at all. Doesn't smell like anything, looks like gold, and tastes...dare I say...kinda good? My kind is blown, my entire world view is shattered and I will probably continue to buy this swill for $2.64 for a four pack of tall boys. I really hate myself for saying this, but thank you Anheiser-Busch? I'm so confused right now.

Big ass 24 oz can, almost looks like one of those energy drink cans. "Born On Date" on the bottom of the can.

A- Weather golden straw hue, great clarity as the bubbles race to the top to keep the thin but sturdy white lace afloat.

S- Clean but strong alcohol aroma, smells of really cheap vodka. Anyone remember Mr. Boston Vodka? Faint maltiness and cereal grain in the nose.

T&M- Very smooth in a medium body, a tad slick on the palate ... I would have expected a crisper palate for the style. Slightly malty with a cooked corn and horse feed flavor. Mild hop bitterness, just enough to balance. Alcohol has a spicy and warming sting. Finishes dry and clean with a lingering alcohol.

D- Perhaps one of the best malt liquors out there, no real astringent qualities to this at all ... certainly the cleanest malt liquor I have ever tasted. Went great with some homemade spinach dip and ritz crackers.

From the get-go, let's clear something up... this beer is not supposed to be complex!

You may notice that my overall rating on this beer is much higher than the individual ratings such as taste, and there is a very good reason for that. Let me explain...

At 8.1% alcohol, and with a taste to match, this ain't you casual drinkers' beer. Nearly twice as potent as Bud Light, the standard party-beer, and just as cheap, it's a no-brainer for getting floppy-stupid-drunk at parties or on those lonely nights when you realize your life is a lie and no one will ever love you (obvious joke is obvious, I hope!?)

But in all seriousness, the point of this beer is OBVIOUSLY to get drunk, not to enjoy the notes and complexities of a sophisticated beer. I mean, it is call "Hurricane" for goodness sake. And to that end, this beer excels at what it's about, and that without having a particularly pugent taste.

So here's to you, mister raging alcoholic! And a beer that will do the job and isn't particularly repuslsive!

Drink this beer and you are a true storm trooper! It is the ultimate experience a real beer connoisseur should weather over and over again. It will blow your mind over and over. Don't just stop after a good cat-5 , make it a cat-10, cat-15 or even a cat-20. Just feel the storm surge up inside of you and let the wind blow through your hair and the waves ravage your baunch. You are now part of the perfect storm and there is nothing you can do but just hang on. Be Bold, Be Smooth, and most of all be Powerful!

I bought it expecting it to be your ordinary, run of the mill flavorless cheap malt liquor. Boy was I wrong! The moment I got this stuff in my mouth I wished I had just left it in the cooler. One of my buddies described it as "liquid ass," and I don't think he was far off.

Dark yellow to light copper color, white head. Too much alcohol aroma mixed with corn. Ugh. Can I knock appearance points for having to go to unsavory corner liquor marts to find this?

Smoother on the palate, but still, alcohol seems omniprescient in this. Cereal like grainness along the lines of Corn Flakes, sweet like, almost fruityness comes along midbottle. Thin body keeps the alcohol around in the mouthfeel.

Not horrible, but I can't imagine a locale that doesn't have something better to drink. And if you're poor, get a better job.

Product is dirt cheap and the can is purposefully ugly.

The appearance is slightly darker than mainstream macros. Not much of a head.

Aroma is grainy, think ethanol. Taste is just as good as AB's top sellers! Take that for what it's worth.

The finish is strange- wavers between grain and alcohol...
Still, given the context of high buzz cheap swill this stuff is drinkable.
It is what it is.

Hurricane is a surprisingly solid malt liquor, arguably my favorite of the ones I've tried. Many of them are either far too thin to be enjoyed, suffer from a pungent taste if their temperature drops just a few degrees, or shamelessly bear their alcohol in the taste, making for an unappetizing experience (I'm looking at you, Camo Silver Ice and sighing whenever I see the Camo Black Extra 24oz can in my fridge). Hurricane doesn't provide an overcompensating palette of flavors nor does it find itself being too thin and basic to really be enjoyed on a level other than a dirt-cheap malt liquor. It's genuinely pleasing, packs a simple but refreshing taste to it, and provides a nice buzz if the can is drank fast enough. It's a marginally-winning combination.

Recently was dared to review a King Cobra. Actually did not know that Malt Liquor was reviewable on Beer Advocate. Once I looked it up and saw I was, had to go with it. Once I saw that there were seven (seven!) other Malt Liquors at the next-door market, made it a point to review one each Tuesday until I run out. Typically am against all the big boy beers, but I am breaking that rule for this challenge. Next up was Hurricane High Gravity, which I had never heard of prior to seeing it with the seven others a few weeks ago. Currently ranked as the 80th-worst beer, which was better than Mickey’s (68th) and King Cobra and Old English 800 (both in bottom 30). I actually thought Mickey’s was pretty good for the style, but hoping this is better.

Poured a gold clear color with two fingers of frothy-to-fizzy white head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good spotty lacing. Below average retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled red apple, pear, wet grain, honey, hints of green grape, popcorn kernels, some boozy malts and a smidgeon of spice (cinnamon?). That 8.1 pct. ABV seemed to be slowly creeping through, but wasn’t overwhelming. (Smell - 3.50)

Tasted better than the smell. Not too bad. That 8.1 pct. didn’t taste like it. Got apple, pear, wet grain, green grape, popcorn kernels, lingering unknown spice (cinnamon? pepper?) and grass. (Taste - 3.75)

Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, clean finish. (Feel - 3.50)

A pretty solid American Malt Liquor overall. Not as good as Mickey’s, but much better than King Cobra and Old English. (Overall - 3.50)

Anheuser Busch Hurricane High Gravity Lager...
8.1 % alcohol/volume. Poured from a 16oz can into a pint glass.

A- Eye catching deep yellow almost golden colored fluid with nice one inch head that falls to a pretty decent froth and ring around the glass. Leaves little to none lacing.

S- Heavy hints of corn straw and alcohol esters are upfronts. Light sweet malts in the back of the nose.

T-M- Taste is of strong grainy alcohol, slick sweet malts with a slight yeasty edge. Flavors are melded into a boozy sweet malted beer. Mouthfeel is decent with the strength of this beer smooth and slick with one hell of a bite from the alcohol.

D- For a malt liquor not to bad but for only light drinking occasions.

Wow, this one caught me off guard. I thought it was going to be another awfull malt liquor but it turned out to be not half bad. The pour was decent with a nice frothy white head that lasted till the end and the beer had a decent light amber color. The smell was pure grain and dingy malt as to be expected. But the taste was decent for a malt liquor....it had a very sweet malty front then it moved into a slightly grainy middle and finished with lingering sweetness that was quite agreeable for a malt liquor. If you want a smoothe malt liquor that is not half bad, take a stab at this one.

Golden color, nice white head, actually leaves some lacing. Some corn and grain noticed in the smell, even some banana maybe, and a small hop presence. Taste starts out fairly clean but has a grainy and floral finish. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. I really expected this to suck, but I'm glad I tried it, it's actually alright. This could get dangerous considering what you get for the price.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this canned greatness.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is strong corn. No doubt what this beer is brewed with. The flavor is very sweet corn with the slightest hint of orange citrus. Light mouthfeel and medium carbonation. For a macro-produced malt liquor this is not terrible, but compared to regular beers, this is one to avoid.

It looks like apple juice. There's odd golden brown color to it with excellent clarity and vibrant carbonation bubbles. No head whatsoever. Faint cereal grain lager yeast aroma. The taste is a mix of cereal grains. Like a sweeter version of honey nut Cheerios. The mouth is moderately carbonated and yet designed to be quite smooth.

Nasty, nasty, awful, bad, as most of the beers that are all about the ABV tend to be. I don't know how the description of the brewer as "high end malt liquor" applies to this or any of the brews of it's kind.

Appearance: 24oz can High Gravity another malt liquor during our sampling of varietal malt liquors, appears pale golden white head dwindles quickly leaves specks of lacing not too apetizing. Aroma: Chemical mix of alcohol corn and rice adjunct ridden tones with some creamed corn sweetness and evident alcohol at 8.1%. Taste: Cleaner in flavor than the last Camo consumed flows down with a touch of bitterness and corn and rice sweetness with alcohol being a dominant component of the flavor profile. Mouthfeel: Carbonation is a bit high body light-medium coats the palate with a layer of chemical lacquer. Drinkability: Well, not as bad as the worst malt liquor goes down with somewhat of a rough viscosity.

A - Dark orange color

S - Pretty bad. Heavy alcohol smell. Doesn't really smell like any type of beer.

T - Gross. this is not good. The alcohol overpowers any flavor that might be there. It's a little fruity but that's about all that comes through.

M - Ehh OK. Very thin, bubbly similar to an energy drink.

D - Almost none. This isn't even good to drink if you're looking to get hammered despite the high alcohol content. It takes forever to choke this down.

I don't recommend this at all.

Big white head quickly dies into a pretty decent lacing above a clear light honey golden colored beer.

About all I could get from this beer was a light lemon and maybe a touch of alcohol in the aroma.

The taste is pretty much all sweet and lemony with a alcohol backbone. This light bodied beers' aftertaste is also lemon filled and leaves your mouth with this moist wetness.
