Dark golden straw color forms a small head with some nice looking lace left on the sides of the glass and that AB trademark--excellent continual carbonation.

Mild hoppy smell--definitely seems like noble hops and some honey like essence.

The taste is a pleasant blast of crisp lemonny and sugarry hops -- a good malt presence too. There is a bit of a pinch on the throat but it isnt anything too annoying.

There is a nice effervescernt mouthfeel but it finishes a too syrupy. Reasonably drinalkble for this style.

On tap at the Bell In Hand Tavern - Boston, MA.

Shiny golden color, thin white lace. Mild sugary honey-like maltiness. Bite of hops with a whithering flavor ... some herbal hop in there. Very lager-like, almost green. If malt liquor was brewed with all malt then this is what it would taste like. Pretty good but not something I'd think about drinking one a regular basis.

Had quite a few 5 oz samples at a tasting at the Kinsale in Boston. My samples came with minimal bone white head (they were poured from a pitcher, so...) which produced very little lacing. Aromas were reminiscent of Bud, with a harsh alcohol component dominating. Slightly sweet at first with upfront alcohol flavors and subdued malt flavors. Alcohol is very noticeable (and slightly harsh) and part of the flavor component when the beer is cold. Once it warms up, more malt and hop flavors are noticeable and after a few, you don't even taste the alcohol. Finishes dry with a dry hopped resiny mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, probably needs a little more time lagering (only lagered for 21 days according to the brewer) to round out the alcohol. Actually this is a very sessionable beer for an 8% pils. No headaches after consuming either.

Beer #3 during an Anheuser-Busch Specialty Brewing Group tasting, for originalbeers.com

A bright, clear golden beer topped with a thin, fluffy head and a wispy, sticky lace. Pale malts, sweet and grainy, dominate the aroma with hints of steel / minerals.

Thick-ish, full-bodied, and a bit creamy. Intense, over-the-top, bready malt sweetness hits the palate, and then stops abruptly.

A crisp edge, thin lemon-lime citric hop character cuts the sweetness, with herbal notes and a faint lager-esque sourness in its trail and some piney and oily hops somewhere in the middle. Then it all stops, abruptly, and finishes clean.

Sweet. Stop. Hoppy. Stop.

Like fellow taster Andy Crouch said, this beer pisses me off. It's no doubt good, but it's kind of confusing as you're not entirely sure what it's trying to be and your mind is looking for some form of classification. It's also unlike other Double Pils, and feels like two beers in one. Interesting.
