Aged almost ten (10) years, this porter was found at the back of my step-father's fridge. This may be the last one in existence.
A : chocolate brown body, with 100% opacity. the head is milky and smooth, light chocolate brown. It pours about a finger's worth of head and then recedes to a hilly lace sticking to the sides of the glass.
S : Cocoa, and what smells like chocolate rum. An aged, bourbon barrel, liquor cabinet smell permeates the aroma, and I can't help but think that it's because it's been sitting (aging) for the last nine years. Mostly bourbon, cocoa, and chocolate rum. Lots of alcohol in the nose.
T : Good lord, this is actually decent. Why the Michelob hate? This is honestly as good as any porter I've had from a microbrewery. It's a tad watery, but it has cacao nibs, spice, chocolate teddy grahams, a dusting of powdered cocoa mix, and a silky coffee bean finish. The end leaves dark coffee and powered chocolate on the palate with a slight yeast zing. Delish!
F : As said, a touch watery, and then it roughs out with some carbonation, and then a dusty, semi-dry finish.
O : I wish this was still made. BRING IT BACK!!! I LOVE THIS PORTER!! And Michelob, no less. I've always had fun hating on Anheuser-Busch products, but I do have mad respect for their Michelob line. This is no different. Bring these Michelob microbrews back and retire Shock Top, you'll do the world a favor, A-B!
