Got a single of this just because...

Pours out the same as it looks in the bottle, straw color with a fizzy white head that drops to a ring around the glass.

Smell. Has a sugary sweetness, seems similar to a smirnoff ice. there is a lime citrus to it, but it is more of an contribute to the sweet, fizzy-like soda aroma.

Taste. Flavor is sweet and tart. lime comes out in the tartness, but there is no bitterness, so the sweet flavors come out similar to a sprite flavor or a very light smirnoff ice (hate to reference it again).

Mouthfeel. Initially the body is very light with lots of carbonation and reminds me of club soda. But as the flavor comes out so does the beer's body. but it still isnt much, as it's very light...which seems to be the target in a michelob ultra beer.

Overall, I dont know why i put so much effort in reviewing this beer. It's a beer that not supposed to taste like a beer, so if you like it, chances are you're better off with just sticking to the smirnoff and mike hard lemonade...or now miller chill and bl lime...i'd rather a chill or bl lime right now, but it is very subjective based on this beer. Cuz as a liquid, i find it drinkable, but as a beer, I find it on the bottom of the lime infuzed beers.

The beer pours a pale yellow color with a thin, fizzy white head that quickly fades to spotty lacing. The aroma is average. It has a faint pilsner malt scent along with a crisp lime aroma. It's light and refreshing. The taste is average as well. It has a light and watery pilsner malt and adjunct flavor that's crisp and clean with a nice lime character. It's easily quaffable on a hot day. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a low bodied beer with good carbonation. This is a typical light lager with a nice lime taste. This would be a fine choice in the hot weather.

Bottle pours a transparent body with a hint of pale yellow. Tiny white head quickly vanishes without a trace. Aroma is actually pleasant and inviting, until I remember this is supposed to be a beer. Smells like fresh lime, saltines, and lemon Pez. A nice aroma for something other than a beer. Taste is very light, seltzery, and watery. Pez lemon candy, accented by a Zesta saltine with a twist of fresh lime and a healthy dose of tonic water. A fizzy, lemony, beverage that is a decent thirst quencher if nothing else is available.

12oz canned 3/18/18 poured into a pilsner glass at fridge temp 4% ABV. The beer pours bright very light yellow, nearly clear with nearly white head. The head recedes to a few bubbles. The aroma is fairly evident natural lime. The taste is devoid of malt with lime and cactus layered over a nuetral base and no hop presence. The mouthfeel is thin bodied, highly carbonated and oily/soapy in the finish. Fairly poor as a beer in every way. It's really just a flavored malt beverage using the Michelob Ultra name.

You just burned a couple thousand calories on the bike. Why put them back on with a surly stout or pretentious porter? This beer is neither. Michelob makes honest, quality beers for hard working Americans. The Ultra Lime Cactus is definitely their pinnacle brew; a true epiphany in a bottle. Even tastier than the Pom Wheat. Keeping with the theme of simplicity and American pride, the bottle is twist-off which makes it even easier to quaff post-ride. My hands are sensitive and tender after a long excursion on the bicycle; I'm told Michelob's caps are tightened to a precise 2.8n/m which makes them easy to twist off, but ensures maximum oxygen barrier capacity. No detail is ignored. Step back and take a good look: From the light blocking clear bottles to the Neuvo-Americano label design, the true treasure is all around -- not just in the brew. The Ultra Lime Cactus (or ULC as I call it) is an experience not to be rushed.

Pale yellow with no hint of lime green. At least the brewery decided against artificial coloring. The bright white cap looks okay initially, then less okay as it snap, crackles and pops its way into the atmosphere. In case you were wondering, the beer is only slightly less loud than a certain breakfast cereal with which it shares a major ingredient. A pathetic attempt at lace drops the score a bit farther.

The nose is acceptable in a 'watered down Margerita' kind of way. I happen to like margeritas if they aren't too sweet, so I'm okay with it. It's definitely lime juicy with a bit of a tequila tang. As beer, I'm less than impressed.

Lime Cactus is probably my favorite of the Ultra fruit pilsners. I really should have put quotes around that last word since this stuff is anything but an authentic pilsner (that word must have focus grouped well). It seems less offensive than the others. At least until the finish, when the accessory flavors fade and permit the taste buds to appreciate the watery grain juice-like base beer.

If I had to drink one of the Michelob Ultras, I'd want one that had a little flavor... like this one. Something to cover up the nastiness that is bound to be present when the carbs are this low. Even though MULC tastes like lightly carbonated water mixed with lime Jello and a drop or two of Cuervo Gold, it's drinkable in its own way. Would I ever buy another bottle? Not a chance in hell.

It may be unfair to criticize the mouthfeel on a light lager for being watery, but A-B could have done better than this. I don't recall a thinner, more aqueous beer. A short spritz of carbonation disappears almost as soon as it appears, keeping the annoyance factor on the low side.

Lime Cactus probably flies off the shelves during the warmer months of the year. It goes without saying that it's light years away from real beer and isn't worth your hard-earned money. Kind of like Corona with a lime slice crammed into the neck.

This is more than what Michael Jackson called a gulp of wet air. It is wet air with lime & "something" else flavoring. An airhead brew.

An ultra clear and light yellow colored beer from a clear glass bottle. Fairly small white head forms and then disappears.

The smell is strongly of lime and ginger. I know that it is ginger because I am mildly allergic to the stuff and it started my nose to run about two minutes after the first sniff. Smells mostly like ginger ale.

The taste begins tart with an unexpected taste of vanilla and a mild ginger burn in the throat. A bit of sweetness appears after the first sip and this begins to taste like a shandy made from ginger ale and Michelob Ultra. For all intents and purposes this IS a Ginger Ale Shandy make with Michelob Ultra taste wise.

The mouthfeel is better than its parent beer, probably just swimming in Maltodextrin boosting.

Drinkable like a soda and not really a beer. I could be more kind to this beer if they called it a shandy and given a hint they put ginger in it so I could have avoided sniffing it. A beer for those not wanting any annoying beer taste in their mouths.

Another surprise from Michelob, not that this beer was all that good, but I was astonished by how not terrible it is. It reminds me of Miller Chill, though I would actually say that Michelob's take actually features a slightly richer and more authentic lime flavor (Miller Chill, however, is in my opinion a better beer overall). Don't get me wrong, both are watery macros with lime flavors, but they also each have their bright spots too.

I know mine is a minority opinion, but I actually don't mind these types of beers. I like lime in beer, plus both Miller Chill and AB's Lime Cactus here, are otherwise just you're light, quaffable (albeit flavorless) macros.

Am I a lesser beer advocate for kinda liking these types of beers? I am, aren't I?

Recommended, but only if you're in a forgiving mood...

It has been almost two years to the day since I reviewed this from a CAN and seeing it available at my local singles shop, I felt compelled to try a different serving type.

My quick pour resulted in a finger of fizzy, foaming, popping bone-white head with almost instantaneous dissipation! I would have a tough time defending this one of I were ever called before Greg Koch. Color was a pale yellow with NE-quality clarity and a good bit of carbonation in evidence. Nose smelled of lime and something peppery. Is this what the cactus was supposed to impart or was this some sort of marketing scheme? Mouthfeel was thin and watery with a really watered-down lime taste on the tongue. I have had better limeade! In fact, I had a Mike's Classic Margarita yesterday and while it may not be my cup of tea, it was more interesting than this. Finish had such a light taste of lime that I wondered why they even bothered. This needed more Ooomph to distinguish it from regular MichUltra. Again, what was the cactus supposed to have brough to the party? I feel like I missed something.

From notes taken 12/01/16:

Clear straw gold, extra pale. White half-fizzy head of moderate retention. Smells like a shandy, hints of lime juice. Lime juice is more distinct but less strong on palate. Prickly pear or similar cactus could be there somewhere, I suppose. I mean there’s a slight cucumber taste to it. But really the only other detectable quality is a lightly grassy/bready basic lager. Not even any hops to speak of, it’s all lost in the lime if anything. It’s okay on its own, would be better with some chips and salsa. Light-bodied, spritzy as can be.

Not a craft beer, and its not meant to be. For what it is its good, on a hot day ( working outside) i don't want a 9% or 10% abv ipa or porter i want this.

Clear sparkling pale gold with a fizzy head that dies off in an instant, much quicker than other Michelobs.

This has a watery light fluid body that contains lightly tart lime candy, but faintly so, with no underlying beer flavor. This tingly semi-dry beer has an artificial sort of feel that makes your palate go lame, with accents of lemon tea.

Yes, I tried this one and I don't know why I sought it out.

This beer was a fizzy whiz-yellow brew that had a loud, very fizzy, half-finger head. Ick. No layers of lace, no nothing. Just gone.

Aroma was of fresh limes, almost like a margarita. Well, that almost seemed like a plus.

Taste was like old lime seltzer. No beer character at all. There was fizz, but no flavor.

Mouthfeel was thin and icky.

Drinkability was horrible. Avoid.

This had an extremely light color and had a faint taste of lime. It smelled pretty good and the taste reminded me of lime seltzer. Due to that it was pretty smooth but certainly not something I would try again.

Got this on "beer friday" at work. Does have a nice brilliant gold color, though little head appears on top of it. Sweet, lightly lime-ish aroma. The taste doesn't resemble beer at all--a candy sweetness with a faint lime tartness. Still, it doesn't taste bad per se. It's like a light limey soda. Not worth trying again, but not wretched either.

Thanks (I think) to Andy for sharing not one but two bottles of Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus. Is this really appropriate? After we've been close friends and beer colleagues for so many years?

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, yellow body with a small, white head.

Smell: Sweetish aroma of lime and cactus. Sigh.

Taste: Lime and cactus flavor obscures what, at best, would've been an exceedingly pale maltiness. Medium sweetness throughout. No hop character whatsoever. Light finish with the artificial tastes lingering somewhat.

Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Very reminiscient of Tequiza, and if that's your bag you may also enjoy this.
