Natural IceNatural Ice
Notes: Natural Ice is brewed with a blend of premium American-grown and imported hops and a combination of malt and corn that lends Natural Ice its delicate sweetness. It then undergoes Anheuser-Busch’s exclusive ice-brewing process, which takes the beer to a temperature below freezing and leads to the formation of ice crystals which create its signature rich and smooth taste.

That's right. This beer gets the highest marks all around. It's $1.42 per 40 ounce bottle here and I prefer it to any other "cheap beer" and a lot of the more "spendy" beers on the shelves. I have indeed tried them all. It's like a sore dick. You can't beat it.

This is the beer you drink at the end of the night. I love craft beer, people assume when you buy these you are a fool with no tastebuds. They are dead wrong. After 3-5 strong IPA's or stouts, you are wasting craft beer. You are drunk and ignore the complexities. You also may need something lighter and less powerful

These beers give less of a hangover than craft beers. Compare a 12 pack of Porter hangover with a 6 nattie tallboy hangover.

I guess I havent talked about the beer itself : Its good *ENOUGH*. The cheapest beer you can find. I like to also buy Budweiser 40oz's because they are around $3.20. Even that is twice as much per volume than these natties (they do taste a lot better though). The metal shines through, which for this beer is a good thing. Kind of has a hay/grassy flavor with a bit of corn sweetness. The mouthweel is kind of gnarly, seems greasy?

This stuff isnt like Steel Reserve levels of cheap nasty hangover juice. It tastes like a 5%er to me. If the last 2 inches of Natty is warm you may not even want to bother with it.

Its bullshit the amount of flack you get for drinking these. Ive been made fun of liqour store employees, random people at the golf course, parties, and all. Often these people have never even tried these natties. I have tried almost any new craft beer my local stores get for years. I know good beer. This is the best beer in its price range for 50 cents per 12 oz.

It is impossible to find 24 ounces of beer for one dollar. It is better than Mickies, Old English, etc. It is not a Malt Liqour that gives you a migraine but it is priced even lower.

I work at a liqour store, there are regulars that come in and buy crates of x15 Natural Ice tallboys, because for 15$ dollars you are getting the cheapest Anheiser Busch beer possible.

TLDR; This beer is hard to compare to any other because its pricepoint and the fact it passes as acceptable means it is the best in its category. People buying 30 cases of budweiser for 25$ are idiots. (sorry). Either drink craft beer for a few bucks more or drink these beers for half the price. Budweiser isn't THAT much better. PBR isnt also, or busch, or coors, or miller..... for 2x the price.

A 12 pack of craft is 15$ + 10 Natty tallboys for 10$ = 32 beers for 25$

vs Budweiser 30 = 25.90$

For a budget drinker who tries to stretch their craft intake, this beer is it.

Natty Ice, or as I like to call it: Natural Eisbock. Sounds much better that way. The disdain of many a college student's Friday and Saturday nights, this beer typically brings nothing but trouble. Usually enjoyed straight from the can or out of a red solo cup; best paired with unprotected sex and various other bad life choices.

More pale than Kristen Stewart with less head than Ichabod. See what I did there? Natty Ice has got me doing crazy things again. Noses were a part of evolution so that when humans smelled something like this, they would be sure not to consume it. Grains, steel, booze (it's only 5.9% ABV... wut). Hops are mildew-ish and musty. But maybe this beer is just old. Who knows.

Take a sip of this shit and try not to flair your nostrils, scrunch your eyebrows, or grimace. It's very hard. Unless you're already about 8 or 9 deep, in which case they'll be flowing like a river at that point. Muted sweet malts, faint graininess, old musky hops, and a stale, metallic astringency in the finish. Crisp and dry, thinner than my bank account.

Why am I wasting my time with this beer. I'm not in college anymore. I have a job. I have a REAL job where I make REAL money and I have a fridge full of decent-to-excellent craft beer. I'm not standing in front of a table of strategically placed plastic cups and there are no Greek letters anywhere around me. Even for "magro lagers", there are much better choices than this swill.

I'm sorry I'm no beer snob, but this is just sugar poison. I don't over look macro ice lager, but this crap is crap. When I drink it I feel the need to spit constantly, never get that from decent beer. I can drink crappy beer and some awful liquor no problem, I have an extremely strong stomach. This is awful poison garbage, I hate to do that to any beer.....

For my first review on Beer Advocate, I had to start with one of my go-to cheap beers. I have an interesting relationship with this one. People always make fun of me when I pull one of these babies out at a tailgate or party. "Thats piss beer!" or "You have no taste" they exclaim in horror. Hypocrites! I say as I point out their overpriced Bud or Coors light.
Natty Ice is an exceptional beer for the price. It tastes of sweet/hearty corn and finishes suprisingly well. Very refreshing. The smell is somewhat off-putting, but once you get past that its smooth sailing. As an added benefit, the alcohol content is nearly 6%. Drink a few of these and you're feeling good! If I had to choose between Natty Ice and any other common macro-brew, I would pick Natty all day everyday (the same can't be said for its more popular "light" cousin - gross). However, do not expect it to compete with the likes of more expensive brews. To sum it up, Natty Ice is the best of the worst.

By no means is this a great beer but it isn't as bad as the score may show. I'm drinking it because I'm trying to shed some pounds but hanging with gang still demands some beer. Trust me I'm a sworn craft beer loyalist. But this beer is the most efficient beer you can drink in terms of the amount of alcohol to calories. 5.9% ABV 130 calories.

On it rates as the first beer in their efficiency chart after numerous liquors.

The first one tastes a little harsh but after that it's just as tasteless as any other domestic.

Yes. I could just have less BUT better beer or no beer at all but during March madness that's not an option. Try it. It's cheap and no worse than a PBR for more ABV.

It isn't this awful, toxic liquid most people say it is. I'm well aware that 'Natty Ice' has a special place in most drinkers' vocab as a beer only the poor or college folk buy. Keep in mind, for an ice beer, it isn't bad.
Look: faint yellow; bubbly; fast dissipating head
Smell: Metallic and corny; sweet
Taste: Sweet 'n smooth
If you're going to try it, try it knowing that you get what you pay for and that it's an ice beer. DRINK IT ICE COLD.

Hello gang, it's the Kernell again.
Gentlemen, I'm not going to p#$$& foot around here and tell you this beer is the answer to your prayers, hell I can't even tell you that god exists, but what I can tell you without a shred of doubt is that if you need to get drunk ( and I mean you NEED to) this beer comes thru in the clutch. It pours like any other cheap beer, piss yellow and a "sea foam" head, it smells like sweet yeast and bread (kinda) and it tastes like Natty Light only a little sweeter which I'm assuming is there to cover up the 5.9% ABV. It's the beer you imagine your uncle taking to the stock-car races on the weekend in their Winnebago to get drunk on and plow race track floozies, and they will because this beer makes the impossible happen. Its dirt cheap, it drinks like old Natty and it comes in a can that has the colors of "Old Glory" herself, this beer is the embodiment of the American Spirit; fast, rough, and a little trashy but I'll be god [email protected]#ned if it doesn't get the job done.

For what it is, this is a great beer. I'm a college student and compared to other domestics, especially cheap ones, this is pretty good. It doesn't have much flavor to it at all and is very smooth to drink if its cold. Other cheap domestics like Keystone or Milwaukee's Best have an odd aftertaste to them but not Natty. If I want something with flavor I would definitely look elsewhere, but if i want a buzz to party or need to unwind after a hard day of studying, Natty is perfect.

Not too awful for cheap ice beer, to be as charitable as possible. I had a neighbor at one point whose back yard was littered with crumpled up Natural Ice cans. To cut a long story short, that path is not one I want to follow.

As far as american adjunct lagers go, this is not bad.

My dad always drinks the stuff, and it sparked my interest in trying it out.

The appearance is typical for shitty ajunct beer, super clear and waterly looking with tons of bubbles and little head.

The aroma is pretty typical for this style of beer, astringent corn and piss.

The taste when ice cold however is pretty neutral. You get sweetness, cripness, corn, and a hint of breadiness/yeastiness. No real off-putting tastes so to speak.

Overall, this beer is what it is. It's extremely cheap (usually 18$ for a 30 pack where i am) and has a moderate ABV of 5.9%. If you're looking for a cheap buzz, this is the way to go. A lot better in my opinion than bud ice or keystone ice. Most reviewers are missing the point of this beer. Usually after 4-5x 12 oz cans of this stuff, im good and it cost about the same as a cheap bottle of vodka for the same effects. When the cheap craft beer is 10$ a 6 pack, this is a good way to go if you need something cheap. Sur it tastes like piss, but when it's ice cold and you take big gulps (or just chugging it) it's easy to get down and definitely doesn't induce worse hangovers than anything else.

A crystal clear straw-gold body reveals hundreds of fast-rising standard-sized bubbles racing to support a dwindling head of creamy white foam. It does maintain a thin surface covering, however, and leaves some very slight lace momentarily following each sip. The nose is clean with a light touch of apple. The body is medium/light and it's nicely crisp on the tongue due to its fine, effervescent carbonation. Sweet adjunct-laden malt dominates the flavor; balanced by an underlying bitterness that's accentuated by it's crisp carbonation. It finishes semi-dry with some residual sticky malt about the mouth. Well made, but not very interesting.

Woof, that is a harsh appearance, concentrated urine, iced, to remove the excess water. Can't form/sustain a head. Aroma was alcohol and metal.

A sweeter edge, corn like. Bitter paired not with hop flavor, but just a long boil of high alpha acid stuff. Everything below average here. At least there is enough alcohol that it isn't like you're drinking a ton of water compared to the light versions.

There's a strong, grainy smell when you first crack open a can, with just a little alcohol following it. Not the most appetizing smell, but certainly not a deal breaker.

Pretty much the same when it comes to taste. Carbonated bread water, with a slight taste of alcohol if you pay too much attention, which you really shouldn't be when drinking Natty Ice. What flavor there is is just fine, as long as you drink it before it warms up. Warm Natty Ice takes on a vague, not-so-appealing sweetness when warm. Best to avoid that

It's not too carbonated either. I hate the overly carbonated nature of most budget beers. This one avoids that issue, making it pretty easy to chug, if you so desire.

Not much flavor, not much smell, but it goes down just fine. The high ABV/dollar ratio makes this beer really stand out for me. It's one of the cheapest ($15-$18 for a 30 pack around here), but it's much nicer than other similarly priced options.

Better piss water than the other piss waters. Tried to grapefruit it for flavor. Mixed results. Why can't the big brewer bury the little guys by making one quality beer and demolish the little guys. Cause the bean counters won't let them.

25 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 10/29/2017. Pours crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. A bit of fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Okay aromas with pale malt/corn and light earthy hop notes; with poor strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness of pale malt/corn and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. A bit thin, but not watery finish. Mildly increasing warmth of alcohol after the finish. Overall this is a very solid pale adjunct lager style. All around good robustness of pale malt/corn and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink. Very clean barley/corn flavors and decent earthy hop balance. Not too heavy on adjunct character. An enjoyable offering, and well made style example. Very acceptable for the style expectations.

Drank from a 12 ounce can. Scores are based on the style.

Look - The font looks tacky, the big Anheuser logo is kinda weird, the prominently displayed "5.9% Alc./Vol." really lets you know what this is for, and I'm pretty sure "Ice brewed for a smooth taste" will be a lie. However, I do like the blue/black/silver color scheme, and the cheaply bombastic nature of it all has a slight charm.

Smell - Metal, but that's probably just the can. Other than that, mostly just corn syrup.

Taste - A strong corn sweetness transforms into a weird sour malt flavor. Kinda focuses on the middle of the tongue which is strange, I've never had a taste like this before.

Feel - Thin body with strong carbonation. Also has a weird slimeyness to it that's hard to describe.

Overall - A cheap beer that is very noticeably cheap. I've had worse, but not much is worse.

Sampled from 25oz can into pint glass.

Appearance: pours a sudsy white 1" head that falls fairly quick with some lacing left behind. Color is clear pale straw. Plenty of streaming bubbles.

Aroma: mild aroma of corn sweetness, white bread and not much else.

Mouthfeel: light and frothy with an easy dry finish. Quite watery.

Flavor: some light barley notes, plenty of corn sweetness, maybe a bit of husks, with a hint of hops in the end. There is a slight alcohol presence in the finish.

Overall: First time I have ever tried this. I wasn't expecting much, so was surprised that it was not offensive at all. Definitely want to drink this one ice cold.
