Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.20%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Lemon Shandy is a unique take on the classic Shandy that is distinctly Shock Top.

Brewed with two row and six row malted barley and five different types of hops, this Belgian-Style Wheat Ale is then combined with citrus peels, coriander, natural lemonade flavor and a hint of sugar for a subtle sweetness. The end result is an incredibly refreshing, crisp and smooth beer that hits the spot.

Pours a hazy deep straw/pale gold, with only a slight, shortlived effervescent bubbling producing 1.5 fingers of rapidly dissipating, foamy, slightly off-white head that leaves no appreciable lacing. Aroma is grain, wheat, bread, coriander, banana & lots of lemon. The lemon overwhelms the nose. Taste is lemonade, lemon candy & more lemon acting as a dominatrix over the very faint wheat, bread, coriander & I think orange. Finishes much like what I think lemon Gatorade would be like if there is such a thing followed up by a thin, dry, lemon cough drop aftertaste. Nose is more prominent & diverse than the taste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, slick, sandpaper prickly & drawing aftertaste. Not pleasant. But then I'm not a fan of Shandys. I will however try to rate it within the bounds of the style and not by my personal tastes.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/6/2017. Pours lightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lightly tart lemonade, orange zest, coriander, pear, apple, light banana, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of lemonade, spices, fruity yeast, and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lightly tart lemonade, orange zest, coriander, pear, apple, light banana, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy bitterness and lemonade tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemonade, orange zest, coriander, pear, apple, light banana, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of lemonade, spices, fruity yeast, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a good malt/bitter/tartness balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from bitter/tartness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and slightly acidic/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a good Shandy style. All around good robustness and balance of lemonade, spices, fruity yeast, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink. Nicely flavorful for the low ABV; with great balance between lemonade and normal base Shock Top flavors. A bit more body and less lemonade acidity than others in the style I've had; but the flavor impact really isn't there. A nicely enjoyable offering, and good example of the style.

Boring

A few years ago I saw the movie "Lemonade Mouth". I started drinking lemonade all the time after that, and when I came upon some Lemon Shandy I figured it would be perfect. I enjoy the wonderful taste of lemonade and get stoned to the bejesus at the same time. So lemon shandy is high on my list.

But not this one. This is just so boring. There's very little flavor or smell. Very disappointing.

Decent beer, not sure why it gets crushed in ratings other than bias. Overall not one I would go after this one but would not be mad if that was all someone had.

Smells like lemon cough drops.

Tastes like lemon cough drops.

Drinks like Pine sol.

I wonder if this could make a good floor cleaner. Will report back with results.

A really tasty shandy that goes great with food, a perfect beer for a bbq. I don't understand why it's rated so low, I'd get tired of them after a few but a couple are really good
