Shock Top Lemon ShandyShock Top Lemon Shandy

Brewed by:
Missouri, United States

Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.20%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Lemon Shandy is a unique take on the classic Shandy that is distinctly Shock Top.

Brewed with two row and six row malted barley and five different types of hops, this Belgian-Style Wheat Ale is then combined with citrus peels, coriander, natural lemonade flavor and a hint of sugar for a subtle sweetness. The end result is an incredibly refreshing, crisp and smooth beer that hits the spot.

Not the best lemon shandy I've ever had but it serves the purpose of being a refreshing drink on a hot day. The first wheat-beer shandy I've tried

Can: Poured a light yellow color ale with a light bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of lemon syrup with quite a bit of residual sugars is closer to juice than beer. Taste is a mix between some wheat malt notes with quite a bit of residual sugar and some lemon syrup notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Easy drinking wheat beer with a tad too much sugar thought.

A: Pours a hazy darker lemon yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and some straw yellow + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a two finger tall sudsy foamy off-white head that reduces to a large patch of very thin film that covers about 75% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of grainy malts with some sweet artificial lemon and just a hint of spices.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of grainy malts that have a light amount of sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of artificial sweet lemon (like that in powdered lemonade mix) and just a hint of herbal/spicy hops in the finish. Minimal amounts of bitterness which fades very quickly.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation. Slightly crisp.

O: The lemonade/lemon part of this shandy is just too artificial smelling and tasting. Easy to drink and with a low ABV, just not a beer that I want to have more than one of...
