From BeerAdvocate Magazine #83 (Dec 2013):

Really not much to this brew at all. It has a half-decent malt base for a “bock,” but nothing really pops with this beer. Barely balanced and pretty much one-sided all the way through. We could really see the restrained character and loss of potential here.

STYLE: American Bock
ABV: 6.0%

LOOK: Light mahogany hue, ample suds

SMELL: Hint of caramel, chicory, faint broth, spice, clean, faint cocoa powder

TASTE: Smooth, crisp, wet, light bodied, watery caramel, malty, modest hopping, kiss of alcohol, slightly bready, dried grass, dry finish, very clean aftertaste

Mahogany brown colored with excellent clarity. Absolutely no head retention, but it is carbonated. I get some dark malt, chocolate, and lager yeast in the aroma. Mouthfeel is very smooth. There is just a hint of dark malt and lager yeast in the flavor. I'm just not getting much action here.

This beer is a back of the fridge pull. It is about one year old at this time.
Clear amber with one finger of off white head with not much retention.
Smell is all malts.
Taste is mostly bready with some caramel malts. The label says chocolate malt as well but it is very faint. What hops are present are just enough to provide some balance. No real bitterness in the finish. Light bodied somewhat watery with adequete carbonation. Finish is lightly sweet with a tiny amount of bitterness. Overall I think this is a typical A-B craft attempt that is one of the best of last year's mix 12 pack version two. Maybe a good one for those Bud drinkers that want to try some new styles.

12 oz twist-off bottle poured into a pilsner glass.
6.0% ABV, 13236

A - Crystal clear tawny brown in color, Beechwood Bock has a short off-white head that vanishes with little trace.

S - Overwhelming caramel cube sweetness keeps this beer's aroma from smelling anything but cloyingly malty but it does maintain a nice, clean level of lager quality throughout.

T - Far better than the aroma would suggest, Beechwood Bock has underlying caramel sweetness but it's certainly not as strong as the aroma and balanced by dryness and earthy character, only marred by a finish of dirty metal in the background, distracting from the lager's otherwise clean flavor.

M - Crisp and effervescent, this darker looking beer doesn't drink like it appears; it's lighter-bodied and dry with a hint of saltiness on the finish for a subconscious nudge to take another sip.

O - AB's Beechwood Bock initially promises a cloyingly sweet beer with it's caramel-like aroma but the crisp lager is a bit drier in both flavor and feel, finishing out pretty cleanly for an average bock.

Budweiser Beechwood Bock has a thick, off-white head, a clear, deep amber (bordering on brown) appearance, lots of bubble streams, and a bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet brown bread crust and standardized American lager beer. Taste is of those elements, with a slight hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium and somewhat slick. Budweiser Beechwood Bock finishes crisp, easy tasting, and mild. No alcohol was detected in the flavor. This is not a bold beer, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is nice, anyway.

Appearance - it is a dark brown, with a decent head.

Smell - The sweet malts smell is quite good, with the caramel and the chocolate about the same.

Taste - The chocolate malts hits my tongue first, with the caramel malts giving a nice burnt bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - good-bodied beer; it was a bit over carbonated though.

Overall - This is the 2nd of the Project 12 -2013 I tried, and I prefer this over the vanilla bourbon, this beer was sweet but not too sweet like the vanilla bourbon. A decent "bock".
