Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen Naturtrüb has a thick, creamy, off-white head, a mostly clear, bubbly, golden appearance, which clouds up, once the caked gunk at the bottom of the bottle is swished and poured in. Lacing is not so high. Aroma is of mild banana and coriander notes, and the main aroma is just mainline beer smell. Taste is the same thing, with minimal bitterness. Mouthfeel is on the full side, and Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen Naturtrüb finishes easy drinking and refreshing, though not particularly clean.

A very smooth easily drinkable Weisen from the tap. Cheaper than water in Germany.

500ml bottle from Bar Bloc+ in Glasgow (£4.25):
This one again proved itself to be quite an enjoyable wheat beer that was very easy to drink and flavoursome despite the fact that the nose could perhaps have been a little stronger. Fruity, lively and fresh with enough going on to keep you interested without it being truly spectacular but still being a hefeweizen well worth trying.

500 mL can picked up at TBS; bottled Nov 19 2014 and served slightly chilled.

Now that's what I like to see in a hefe - a nice golden-yellow colour, clouded with sediment and topped off with more than two fingers of fluffy white head. It wilts away at a leisurely pace, coating the glass with lacing as it seeps away into a lumpy cap and messy collar. Positively gorgeous. The nose is dominated by bready wheat and pale malt sweetness, with a hefty dose of clove spice atop fruity banana and orange citrus notes. Moderately yeasty; the aroma is proper for the style and enticing enough, I suppose, but not exactly memorable.

Clean profile that's pretty tasty; the flavour leans heavily on bready, wheaty pale malts, with some grainy sweetness and plenty of citrusy orangepeel and lemon. Ripe banana crosses the palate mid-sip, with notes of grassy hops, spicy clove and yeastiness rising as you near the finish. A yeasty, wheaty sweetness remains a presence on the palate into the aftertaste. Light-bodied, with mildly fizzy carbonation that gently prickles the palate, offering up a somewhat crisp, highly refreshing mouthfeel. A bit watery, and not terribly interesting, but otherwise this one drinks like a champ.

Final Grade: 3.87, a solid B+. The Schöfferhofer name does not exactly possess the same gravitas that the big-name German wheat beer brewers do - but their Hefeweizen is still a relatively good example of the style. Not my first choice, but perfectly acceptable in a pinch. This one has a bit more of an orangey-citrus kick than I'm used to from a hefe, but if you're a witbier fan then you'll probably appreciate this difference. At 2 bucks and change for a can, wheat beer enthusiasts have no reason not to give this one a shot.
