500mL can, packaged on 04/04/2016, expires 04/07/2017. Served in a milkshake pilsner glass.

Appearance: Cloudy grapefruit color with an initial thick white head, then died down to a thin ring. No lacing.

Smell: Grapefruit soda. Nothing else.

Taste: Initial grapefruit soda flavor, and then it transitions into a bit of a hefeweizen. Some mild graininess and wheat tang from a hefewiezen, but not a lot. Very mild quick bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: A bit fizzy as you would expect with something mixed with soda. Okay thickness underneath, but more like a soda.

Overall / Drinkability: This is a radler so I'm not sure why this is being listed as a Hefewizen. I think it should be listed under fruit/vegetable beers for style. That being said, it works as a radler. The underlying beer is just okay, but it pairs well with the soda as an accent. The soda is the main player here, with the beer as an accompaniment which works. So the individual pieces of this beer are just okay, but everything combined works much better. Very good on a hot day and works well with spicy food. I may not have another one in an evening, but it's easily drinkable and I finished it quickly enough.

this is like a radler, really syrupy feeling yet light. not sour or tart like a grapefruit. it tastes more like orange juice mixed with grapefruit and a light beer. This thing is really sweet too, if you aren't much for sugary drinks this won't be your thing. If you're looking for a Hefeweizen, look else where. If you're looking for a alternative for a radler, you would enjoy this.

This is a hard one to score. I gave it a high rating because as a Radler-ish beer it is amazing. As a weizen, not so much, but obviously that is not the main concept here. It is deliciously like drinking grapefruit soda but smoother, less carbonated, and overall much better. So easy to consume all of its contents in mere seconds and leaves you willing to dust off all six in one sitting. Prost!

Wow. Smells like fresh squeezed grapefruit and tastes like it too. The natural flavor is pretty amazing - sweet and refreshing - with just enough funk to let you know your drinking beer and not juice.

Great Sunday brunch beer - kills Mamosa's

Wonderful flavor to be had here. Big grapefruit on the nose and palate, rounded by a mild breadiness, and a hint of banana. It smells great, looks great with a hazy orangish gold. Its got a thick kind of mouthfeel that doesnt last too long, perfect for a parched mouth on a hot or humid summer day. My only complaint would be a little more of the hefeweizen flavor to work with the grapefruit.

-160z. tallboy can into wheat beer vessel. Unfiltered with grapefruit flavoring add and colored with cochineal extract (honestly have no idea) @ 3.2%.

A: Beautiful dense and hazy orange juice coloring with pink grapefruit highlights from back-lighting. Dirty off white head is thin, bubbly and short lasting. Really love the coloring, the cochineal extract seems to have done the trick nicely.

S: Fresh pinkgrapefruit juice, lightly tart, with a initial strong first impression. Freshly sliced grapefruit, juicy, and natural appeal of good strength.

T: Not much to be said flavorwise, very good, spritzy tart grapefruit juice, thirst quenching. If you love grapefruit juice or other forms of breakfast juice you will surely like this.

M: Light bodied, tart, good amount of carbonation provides texture and feel. Like carbonated grapefruit juice.

O: Not sure what i was expecting, labeled a hefe-weizen, but does not have much of the traditional german hefe yeastiness, more clean like an american style. Also this is only 3.2% and cut with grapefruit juice, so i would consider this more Radler then hefe imho. I love grapefruit juice and the tart quality and freshly cut grapefruit, so its not a hard stretch of the imagination to guess i really liked this, even if most would question if this is a true beer by nature, rather a hybrid. The grapefruit juice is spot on for the perfect summer time quencher when you want to keep things light, not necessarily beer, by poolside or beach side and want that old time country lemonade or grapefruit juice feel, which for myself provides a high drinkability rate while quenching the NJ muggy summer heat. Though its labeled as a hefe, which is as questionable as the nature of the beer status itself, i thoughly enjoyed this as a Radler style, and perhaps one of the better, if not best by Radler/Shandy style with a low abv% and a high grapefruit quantity that is sure to be hit or miss depending of individual status. If you are seeking a Radler style then try, fits the bill nicely to quench the thirst when not in the mood for beer or with company.

Had this from tap in "germany" in Disney epcot center. While I get the criticism that it's not a beer and blah blah......I loved it. It was 98 and humid and this was so refreshing. Big big fan under those conditions. Also, thought there was plenty of breadiness to make it "a beer"

From 06/02/16 notes. At Fitzgeralds in Glen Ridge.

Overall while it doesn't taste too much like a beer or hefe, I found it very tasty...it is NOT like a Grapefruit IPA or anything, and more like a shandy, but was nice on a summer night.

1 litre can condition - 10 for 4 locally

Labeled incorrectly on the site - this is a radler with 3.2% ABV and therefore reviewing this like a Hefe doesn't make sense; however, when approaching the other types of radlers I've seen spring up over the last few years, this beer is in another league flavour wise.

Pours a hazy unfiltered, highly carbonated orange, with excessive head with an aggressive pour - take this one slow. Though the head dissipates rather quickly there is little to no noticeable lacing on the top, smells of sweet grapefruit and really nothing else. Tastes sugary sweet up front with a bit of grapefruit and finishes with a rush of carbonation and bit of wheat that leaves a sweet taste on the palate. Highly drinkable and very very sessionable!

Overall, wow, this has a really crisp and refreshing taste, um, taste of grapefruit rather than beer. I'd perhaps use this as a mixer, since …well ... it's a bit sissy on its own. But the good news is that this is fantastically better the "Grapefruit Harvest IPA" (by Abita Brewing).

This is in the same category as a hard root beer. It is half grapefruit "drink" and half heffe. They recommend denying right from the can and I did. It smells and tastes just as you'd expect, but about as opposite of a grapefruit Sculpin as you can get.

It doesn't look like a beer at all, smells just like what it is half hefeweizen and half grapefruit juice. You can only taste the hefeweizen a little bit but it comes thru just enough and blends well with the grapefruit, it goes down smooth and doesn't have too much carbonation like other sweet beers.

Poured a very hazy yellow with a slight hint of pink. Aroma is sweet grapefruit and Belgian yeast. Flavor is grapefruit flesh, fruity hefeweizen style flavors, Belgian yeast. Incredibly refreshing; basically closer to a delicious grapefruit radler.

Excellent for a grapefruit drink. But I wanted a beer.

I'd buy it again but I'm not happy with this recent surge of ABV% Root Beers and whatever, and this "drink" is far more grapefruit drink than Weizen or any kind of legitimate beer. I'm surprised that these new styles even make it onto beeradvocate.com, the Bros banned ciders and the likes of Strongbow years ago.

A = looks like a carbonated soda with some foamy head.

S = smells like a carbonated grapefruit soda.

T = tastes like a carbonated grapefruit soda.

F = has a slight alum bite along with some minor bitters.

O = great for what it is.

Purchased at the LCBO for around the $2.20 mark or so for a 473ml can. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass.

A- Opens well and pours a 1" high white head that films out within a minute or two. Nice medium orange colour and unfiltered.

S- Nice grapefruit here. Citrus galore

T- Grapefruit and citrus. Nice and sweet but tart. Nice lightness going down

M- Sweet and sticky. Tough to get through on a hot summer day

O- Nice brew but I see it being difficult to get down on a hot summer's day. The sweetness would get on you fast.

Food Pairing

This nice little hybrid went well with..... Fruit cocktail!

Enjoy

Draft pour in a pint glass at Chuck's in Darien, Illinois (only).
Hazy, but bright, orange body with no head.

Grapefruit is obvious on the nose as well as the taste. Nice, but is it beer? I say no. Some bread in the flavor as well.
Mouthfeel is clean and light, but creamy, and the finish is dry and sweet.
I want this refresher between the front lawn and the back lawn on a hot summer day.

Interesting and a nice surprise. Different at first taste, but very good and one you will want again. Make sure to swirl the bottom as you pour, or you will be missing out. Give it a try, you will enjoy it.

Having trouble thinking of this as a beer (seems like more of a "beer cooler"), but if you think this would interest you, it likely will. Seems like a very refreshing choice for a summer party, and the low alcohol content makes it very versatile for serving occasions. Hm, on second taste, I think there should be more products like this, but with appropriate flavoring (grapefruit being quite appropriate).

A: Cloudy orange color, 1/2 inch white fluffy head, dissipates quickly, no lacing

S: Big grapefruit, maybe a little classic yeast spiciness shinning through

T: Sweet grapefruit citrus taste with a little of the classic grapefruit bitterness, a bit of the hefeweizen yeast spiciness comes in the middle of the taste, bitter grapefruit aftertaste

M: Light to medium

O: The first time I had this was at the Wine and Dine festival at Epcot and absolutely loved it. Found it in a 6 pack of bottles in a liquor store after a quick trip to Disney recently. Not quite as good out of the bottle but still probably the best fruit/beer paring I've had to date.

Very surprised by just how good this is. Grapefruit is a surprisingly solid choice for a fruit beer. A nice, albeit mild, level of citrus, and flavor that almost kind of comes across as tangerine. It doesn't come with the tartness that is generally associated with grapefruit.

I would group this in the beer-like drink area.

Drank straight from the can. It's very refreshing and tastes good. Not sweet or cloying, pretty strongly carbonated. All grapefruit and light-bodied malt. Low alcohol.

Good for what it is. No sense in penalizing it for what it isn't.

I love grapefruits and had to try this beer even though at first thought it sounded kind of gross. The fact that it comes from a German brewery gave it enough legitimacy that I got the 4-pack of 16-ounce cans. I like it! There's really no beer taste to it but the grapefruit taste is real and it's not cloying like a soda. As a Floridian I have plenty of hot days where this beer definitely hits the spot. And at 3.2% ABV I can have my fill without staggering around the yard!

Poured a cloudy golden body with three fingers of thick, bubbly white head that stuck around, slowly lingering to a thick cap of white foam. Overall impression of appearance is of a Hefeweizen in body, with a head that while similar to a Hefeweizen, is also a bit more bubbly. Scents of grapefruit juice, with just the slightest hint of malt. Overall impression of aroma is of a typical grapefruit radler, refreshing and fruity. Flavor begins with the flavor of a grapefruit soda, albeit a very good one, matin a restrained sweetness that is lower than that typical to a standard soda. Middle continues these flavors. Finish continues grapefruit flavors and is sweet at the end, with just a touch of sweet malt and some discernible banana esters and clove phenols from the Hefeweizen. Aftertaste is grainy, cracker-like wheat malt, grapefruit peel and clove phenols. Overall impression of flavor is of a crisp, refreshing radler with a restrained sweetness and a good amount of the Hefeweizen on display. Mouthfeel is light bodied with high, effervescent carbonation and a crisp feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good radler, combining the soda-like qualities with the Hefeweizen. Overall this is a good, refreshing summer beer, as is traditional. It doesn't have the full complement of flavors of a Hefeweizen, but the flavors are present enough that this is more than a soda. The restraint in the sweetness is a good choice, as it allows the beer to avoid being cloying. Fairly well done commercial example of a radler.

Soda? Wine cooler? Spritzer? Cocktail? One could be forgiven for confusing this for any of the above. But, judged on its own as a cool refreshing treat, its Enjoyable.

In the end the sweetness and soft drink like character will earn the ire if most beer snobs.
