On the label it says "they call it a bitter, we call it a pale." I call it neither.

Smells just lovely, like a Belgian dubbel...raisins, bread, yeast...nice. pours a cloudy copper with...omg...the most head ever. This has to be the most carbonated beer I've ever had, right?..foams up like a misused dish washer on a sitcom...but then, the suds subside, and the beer itself is mildly carbonated...weird.

Taste...well, again, I'm tasting a somewhat watery Belgian style...tastes like someone poured some tonic water into a Chimay red. It's not unpleasant, though, and it's much more interesting as it warms up a bit...cold, it doesn't have much character.

This is an odd beer. I kinda like it...it's just labelled completely wrong. I'll try it again.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a thin white head that dissipates to patches and a thin ring around the glass; light slippery lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, tea and mild citrus and floral hops. Flavor follows aroma; biscuit, mildly toasty malt forward with grassy, mildly citrus hops. Light to medium bodied with peppery carbonation. An interesting and quite drinkable mash-up of ESB style malts and more American oriented hops, although the hop bitterness level is similar to a bitter. Fairly faithful, but nicely balanced in its own way. A nice sessionable English style ale.

22 oz bomber bought from Trader JOe in Salem. $4.99 Its a light amber clear coloured ale with a nice sized frothy slightly off white head. Mostly malty aromas but some lemon zest style hop aromas show. Pleasant Very balanced beer in style with the English style malts beating out ( just) the zestful American hops. Good mouth feel carbonated low and well for style very drinkable. Good unusual beer ( for the PNW)..enjoyed .

Bottle opened on 1.15.14

A - Pours a hazy amber-orange with a small tan head that fades slowly.

S - Malty, toast, oranges.

T - Bready malt, then a bitter grassy hop finish.

D - Lower carbonation with a medium body.

O - Ok, malty and bitter. Not my first two choices for a good beer.

This stuff is sweet and nutty in the best way. Crisp and watery body that is totally refreshing.

I taste walnuts and a touch of pecans. Mild bitter malty flavor with a zingy tang. A touch of butterscotch. Hugely fragrant as you sip. Dries out with some yeasty flavor. Dark rye bread notes. Pleasant bitter finish.

This may have more hops than the English style but it's in a galaxy of its own with sensational flavor and dominating drinkability. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego.
