Looks nice in the glass. Has a moderate head and a nice tangerine color. Piney, floral smell with a strong malt backbone. The problem is the taste left a lot to be desired. Ended up being very malt forward with very little hop presence and a lingering bitter finish that wasn't all that pleasant. Too much malt and the hop presence is almost no existent until the very end where it manifests itself as overly bitter. Overall not a well balanced IPA but not terrible or anything.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #69 (October 2012):

Hopped with Cascade, Centennial, Crystal and Simcoe hops, this is indeed one Gigantic IPA. It’s actually quite an onslaught of fresh hop bitterness and flavor, but manages to have some time for balance. It’s dry finish also makes it quite drinkable at just over 7% ABV. Though it doesn’t stand out amongst the sea on IPAs, it’s certainly a solid example and a reminder of the West Coast’s love for hops.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 7.3%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round

LOOK: Semi-hazy amber, creamy white lacing

SMELL: Floral, piney, citrus skins

TASTE: Creamy, medium-bodied, prickly hop sting, citrus, pine, leaf, resin, earth, sweet, bready malts, juicy apples, dry, chalky aspirin

22oz bottle poured into an IPA glass.

A: Amber-orange with good clarity. Off white head retains at a half inch. Thin, broken webs of lacing.

S: Floral and fresh cut grass notes. Soft pine and earth. White grapefruit and tangerine slices. Blood orange and perhaps a hint of passion fruit too. Light grain and caramel malt tones underneath. Very focused and clean.

T: Oily and spicy hops. Pine and earth. Grassy. Bitterness is on the gentler side. Juicy citrus notes of blood orange, tangerine, white grapefruit. Passion fruit too. Toasty and lightly grainy, dry caramel. Oily hops trail into a soft and easy finish.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied. Filling in the mouth and softly creamy. It glides easily through the mouth. Sharp carbonation adds a strong, crisp bite that refreshes and quenches. Super quaffable overall.

O: Impressive craftsmanship here. Such a tightly honed and focused IPA. It teases a lot of great flavors out of old reliable hop strains. It's super drinkable and scores a ton of points for drinkability. I'd gladly park my ass on a barstool and drink this all night.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a soft hazy orange color with a one finger level foamy head that dissipated within less about a minute. Stringy messy lacing.
The smell had some bitter grapefruit, bitter pine and a slight undercarriage of some caramel malt.
The taste was a rush of bitter upon my tastebuds. Caramel works its way into the flavor in a sweet round about sort of way.
The mouthfeel was about light to medium bodied with a nice crisp sessionably sweetness hitting my tongue.
Overall, good, it was nice to try pretty sure I'd bang it again.

a very nice brew, but to me, closer to a good hoppy american pale than a true ipa, not quite ad big and bold, and certainly nowhere near as bitter as the industry standard. shiny penny tint to a rather flush golden brew. three quarters of an inch of white head, well layered lace. the nose is a fruity side of hops, some mild grapefruit, but almost candied, its not real bitter but has that nice zesty freshness. a light honey sweetness from the malt, but rather nondescript as far as the grain is concerned. the hops are all throughout this beer, not just in the finish, and while they arent bitter, they are flavorful and delicious, some sappy piney flavors, a little christmas tree in here, but again, no bitterness and a rather zippy quick finish for the style. medium bodied, and i would never ever guess this was 7.3% abv. It drinks like 5%. easy carbonation, light on the palate, and very drinkable. also at just 5 bucks a bomber, its a good every day brew, more a pale than an ipa though, but one i hope sticks around in colorado.

edit: weirdly not quite as compelling on tap. less heady and frothy, and a little sweeter on the grain than i remember it being in the bottle. still delicious, but a little less impressive in draft format...

22 from Stankonia...Thanks Chris!! Poured into my little Stone tap-takeover glass.. great white head... perfectly clear orange brew.. nice lacing.

Nose is a big melon bowl punctuated with some tangerine zest...

Flavor mirrors the nose.... very fruity hoppiness... surprisingly low bitterness given the PNW heritage... juicy fruits... melon, tangerine, cara oranges, some background pineapple..

Body is good and so is the carbonation.

I've had this one a couple of times but never given in much thought until tonight and I should punch myself... this is a great IPA... very very fruity... Folks need to pay better attention to Gigantic.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color with a short dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma fruity citrus, caramelized malts and piney hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a strong but not over-powering earthy hops bitterness come in. The malt character is hearty and brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, while it’s not an extreme hop bomb, it’s balanced, flavorful and worth drinking for a long time.

22 oz bomber purchased in Vermont, of all places..

Beautiful golden-red body, fluffy finger of creamy off-white head.

Nose is crisp clean citrus. Good, but not overwhelming.

Flavor is balanced and lightly sweet. Solid citrus finish, nice grapefruit bite.

Mouthfeel is aspirin tooth stripping and crisp. Effervescent, even.

Overall, a solid brew. The malt/ hop balance is pretty high for a west coaster, but

I bought a bottle of Gigantic IPA in a bottle shop. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a rich gold color, clear, with a modest white head.

Smell is a sweet bread aroma, with just a hint of a fruity citrus scent.

Taste is a caramel malt flavor that never completely gives way to the citrus and pine flavors of a typical IPA. The flavor remains very candy-like all the way through.

Mouthfeel has some body to it, slightly cloying with the caramel and bitters aftertaste.

A drinkable IPA, if not a but on the heavy side. I'd have it again, especially in the fall or winter seasons.
