This pours a rich amber in color.

There’s a sweet aroma of toffee and caramel, candied orange and piney resin. The flavor is definitely on the overly sweet side, but there’s an underlying bitterness and enough going on to keep it from veering in the cloying department. I get candied fruits, piney resin, toffee, caramel, citrus and some boozy heat to sharpen the senses. Massive, indeed.

Bottle opnened on 8.12.13

A - Pours a clear caramel-red with a foamy tan head with great retention.

S - Sweet barley, wheat, a touch of dark fruit.

T - A subtle barley, fruit, caramel mix. A touch of booze in the finish.

D - Decent carbonation with a medium body.

O - A lifeless barleywine, subtle and boring all-around.

On tap at Gigantic for their anniversary.

A: Ruby/brown - kind of like red clay. Very little head, and the legs are barely there. It still looks pleasant sitting in the glass.

N: Dried pineapple, mango, hints of onion, plenty of toffee and caramel. The more I think about it, the more I like what they did here. It's definitely on the sweeter side.

T: Very fruity. Pineapple, mango, and some mint. There's a nice balance to this - it's mostly sweet but the hop's arrive to stop the beer from becoming cloying.

M: Heavy mouthfeel without being overly dense. 12% ABV is really well hidden - almost dangerously so.

O: Makes me think of a Bigfoot without the intense bitterness. Good stuff that should definitely age well.
