Who doesn't love a movie with a nice pint of beer? Alamo Drafthouse is a great concept and a great place to both watch a movie and drink a beer. I typically go to the Park North location, up near North Star Mall on Loop 410. It's clean, convenient, and the beer selection is always tip-top. Usually about 15-20 different styles on draft with several more in bottles and cans. I almost always go with the Stash IPA from Independence BC in Austin, but I was recently pleased to see a Southerleigh selection on the list. Keep it local. Service is good and unobtrusive for a movie theater (which is good). Honestly, the food isn't great. It's typical low-brow pub grub, which is just fine if you're looking for that. Just don't set your expectations too high for the food and you'll be fine. You don't go to the movies for the food in the first place. But it sure is nice to be able to go to the movies for the beer. Looking forward to a pint and the upcoming Thor movie, myself. Cheers.

This is my favorite place in town to watch a movie, thanks to the fact that you can have good food and craft beer while you watch. The selection is not huge and remains mostly fixed, but it includes Dogfish Head, Left Hand, Green Flash and Duvel, to name a few (although many are in bottles, not on draught). They do have some taps that rotate different beers from the same brewer, such as Sam Adams, Breckenridge and New Belgium. Finally, they feature a few taps of Texas beers, like Saint Arnold, (512), Perdanales, Real Ale and Ranger Creek. The bees I've tried have all been fresh and well cared-for. The bartenders I've encountered have all been craft-beer savvy, but the wait staff inside the theaters have not been.

The theaters have good sight lines and good sound and they are clean, but they are not fancy. The food I've tried has been tasty and made from fresh ingredients, although I find the menu a little thin on selection. However, everything seems to be made by hand, not prepackaged. The service is a little hit or miss and you may only get served once at the beginning of a movie and once near the end. prices are reasonable, with drafts usually $5-$6 and some special bottles more than that.

If you want a good theater that also has some great beer, this is it in San Antonio. There are other locations around town that I have not been to personally, but I'm sure they are very similar.

It’s pretty awesome that San Antonio has three Drafthouses to choose from. This one is in a brand-new theater and lacks the ‘worn-in’ feel of the Westlakes… as well as the character that comes from the history of an old theater. But I digress…
Certainly, go here to enjoy a movie free of talking, texting, and kids. The beers are the icing on the cake. They have a decent selection, certainly better than many bars around town, and they’re reasonably priced (considering the usual movie theater mark-up), and there’s plenty of regional/Texas brews to choose from.

Food is … meh, I don’t eat here. Anymore.

Only critique I have is that the pour I received left a finger’s worth of space at the top (isn’t that, what, about 4 ounces, making this… not a pint.) and it wasn’t even filled with foam (which I’m willing to overlook, sometimes). Proper pours, people!

Still, that aside, I love the Drafthouse chain and look forward to their expansion in other area (SF! Yes!)
