Brewed with copious amounts of Chocolate malt and 28 pounds of semi-sweet Belgian Chocolate added to the boil, Imperial Chocolate Mudbank is a tuned up version of our Winter seasonal with all the chocolate bang for your buck. This jet black brew is chock full of bready two-row barley, biscuity Victory, and enough Caramel malt, and Flaked Oats for a bold, rich, big mouthfeel and taste. 9.1% ABV and only available in even numbered years.

the odd thing is that it tastes great, it just does not taste like beer not even a hint.

Very nice! I was skeptical when this brew was recommended to me because I've had a couple misses from this brewery. But this one was definitely worthy of the recommendation.
Rich, chocolaty, creamy, and sumptuous. What more does anyone really need to know?

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Dark, dark mahogany brown pour. Nearly black with thick foamy tannish head. Great retention and lacing.
S: Rich and sweet... chocolate, roasted grains, and burned sugar.
T/F: Follows the nose. Sweet and chocolatey. Minimal espresso flavor... some bitterness from the roast but definitely favoring the sweet. Dessert in a bottle... medium bodied (lighter than expected really)... creamy mouthfeel. The finish is chocolate milk and dark cocoa.
O: A delicious dessert beer. Big, flavorful, and like dark chocolate, beer, and lactose got all mixed together and confused. Really tasty.

I somehow segued into Imperial/Sweet/Milk/Chocolate Stouts towards the end of New Beer Sunday (Week 687), which was yesterday. I had this one ready to go to add to The CANQuest (tm), but a 9.1% ABV beer suddenly seemed a bit daunting. I decided to hold off until I got home today to pick up where I had left off, if you CAN dig it!
From the CAN: "Brewed with copious amounts of Chocolate malt and caramelized chocolate from Pierre's New Hope added to the boil, Imperial Chocolate Mudbank is a tuned up version of our Winter seasonal with all the chocolate bang for your buck. This jet black brew is chock full of bready 2-row barley, biscuity Victory, and enough Caramel malt, and Flaked Oats for a bold, rich, big mouthfeel and taste. Hopped with Fuggles and coming in at 9.1% ABV this hefty brew is sure to keep you warm on a cold Winter's night as well. Too bad Winter is only three months long! This limited brew is only available once every two [even numbered] years, so be sure to keep a few bottles in the basement, as this beer will age and grow in character with time."
I Crack!ed open the vent on this Pint of foolishness & beCAN a slow, gentle Glug. A vigorous in-glass swirl raised just under two fingers of dense, foamy, light-tan head with good retention that left behind some nice lacing as a calling card. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44), allowing cola highlights at the edges. Nose was quite sweet & quite chocolaty. Mmm. I am not generally crazy about sweet anything, but some of these Stouts have been quite enjoyable. Mouthfeel was big, full & creamy, like a dollop on my tongue. This was unabatingly sweet, really chocolaty & true to their advertising. It was kind of making me sweat a little as I am not that big a fan of sweet. It was beCANming clear that for me this was a novelty, not one that I would want on a regular basis. Finish was sweet chocolaty & I was ready for a slug of water to wash it down. Phew!

Can from my brother. Pours out kind of thin, small ring of head. Sweet chocolate in the aroma, lacto notes. Taste also is sweet, a bit of heat, bur mostly lacto sweetness. Some of the roast grains, and body is thin.

Poured near room temperature into a 16 tulip glass not sure when it was canned. Pours a very dark near black with a massive 3 finger tan head that leaves plenty of thick streaks of lace behind as it slowly settles into a thin layer of khaki bubbles with nice retention.
Smell is cocoa nibs, vanilla bean, a hint of coffee, and biscuity grain.
Taste follows cocoa, vanilla, traces of coffee, biscuity grain, and some toffee.
Mouthfeel is little bigger than medium, moderate carbonation almost creamy, maybe a tad dry, and this 9.1% ABV drinks like 6.5% ABV with no alcohol detected for me.
Overall this is a very one dimensional beer, it is so crazy tasty I am digging it. Exactly what the can says it is and the drinkability is off the charts. Thanks jzeilinger for this one.
