Blitzkrieg Hops DIPABlitzkrieg Hops DIPA

Brewed by:
Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company
Pennsylvania, United States

Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
With the amount of IPAs brewed here in the States you’d think that there’s only one way to skin a cat. While the West Coast style has long dominated the style, there’s a world of IPAs you should explore, and Blitzkrieg Hops DIPA wouldn’t be a bad start. Blitzkrieg is a big, 9% ABV, juicy, earthy hopped English-style double IPA brewed entirely with English malts, hops, and fermented with an English ale yeast strain. Brewed with Maris Otter pale malt, and hopped with Admiral, Pilgrim, Phoenix, and Target hops; all big, juicy, high alpha English hops that we thought needed a lil’ love, each of which is over 10% alpha acid. Blitzkrieg Hops DIPA is our homage to the birthplace of the IPA as well as the band that inspired its name.

OG – 1.075
FG – 1.010
IBU – 98.0

If I could give this a negative 100, I would. This is garbage. If you enjoy robitussin, spiked with ass flavored vodka, go ahead and drink this trash. Neshaminy has never let me down, but this beer specifically, needs to be erased from my memory. It's been two months since I've had this, and I still can't not forget the absolutely disgusting taste I got from it. Do not waste your money.

16oz can poured into a Hopslam tulip

L: Pours a deeper orange, hazy, brighter golden edges. Big off-white head sticks around, and to the glass.

S: Decent, albeit standard, nose of pine needles, bitter citrus, and bready malts. At least it doesn't smell like a malt bomb, which is basically all I care about.

T: Now we're talking, this is tasty as hell. Lots of juicy tropical citrus fruits up front, I get a ton of ruby red grapefruit, then the malts step in to balance things out, remind you this is 9% ABV, and then boom - bitter beer face. No doubt this is a big, high IBU beer.

F: Maybe my favorite part of the beer, somewhere in between creamy, and lively. Perfect amount of carbonation, aka a flavor delivery machine.

O: Not sure what some others have been drinking, but I didn't find this boozy in the least. Can you tell it's 9%? Kind of, not all that much. It's actually a fairly easy to drink DIPA, and I will definitely seek this one out everytime it's released fresh. Really solid brew.

Picked this one up at the Foodery in Philadelphia. These guys have been way hyped lately so I had high expectations. The beer pours a very nice deep golden color with a slight haze and a half finger of head...looks very good in the glass. As far as smell I picked up some slight fruit and heavy amounts of malt...not too bad. As far as the taste I'm not a fan at all. Even after my last sip, maybe 2 or 3 minutes later my palate is still trying to take in all the bitter flavor that is in this beer. very metallic and very astringent. I let my wife try this who is a huge fan of IPA's and she said I may have ruined her Julius (which she was currently drinking) because she can't get the bad taste out of her mouth. My sink didn't even like this beer.

Served 38F from the 16 ounce can into a 16 ounce snifter. No canning date. No idea when this launched or was brewed, or weather or not it was shipped cold. I purchased at Joe Canal's, room temp, off the shelf.

Really nice color. Bright juicy orange. Slight chill haze.

The nose is really unpleasant here. Earthy, dirty, and stale hops and malts.

This is a really bad tasting IPA. The only reason I gave it 3 is because I know the reputation of the brewery and I feel bad about giving them such a low score. But make no mistake. This tastes terrible. The most prevalent taste is ethyl alcohol. The blitzkrieg hops must be an acquired taste because they do not belong in this beer. They are so bitter and abrasive. I taste no malts in the dipa. Just dirty earthy abrasive hops, and very strong ethyl alcohol.

While pouring this I noticed large yeast particulates flowing, and floating into my glass. Not a good sign. And again the mouthfeel of this ale is horrible because of the overpowering taste of alcohol and the crazy abrasiveness of the hops.

This is a DIPA, a big, angry, bombastic DIPA. Looks nice enough, as it checks in with the same appearance as you'd expect from most DIPAs but the head doesn't stick around very long. Nose is disappointingly absent, as just faint pine comes across. Taste though, wow. Just tongue punishment. Onion, grass, dank earthy rubber and a spicy alcohol bite without being overly astringent.

I almost let the overall rating sway my decision on buying this, but I'm glad I didn't. It's well worth a try.

When I get asked what the most underrated beer on BA is, this is the easy answer. I cannot even fathom how the ratings for this beer are so low. It is a dank, citrusy treat, an even better one than Shape of Hops to Come, NC's summer DIPA. Honestly, this beer is fantastic, citrus with a beautiful malt finish that brings the beer into balance. Could not recommend it more..

A - Amber orange color with a soapy white layer of foam and lacing. Just a slight bit of chill haze.

S - Balanced aroma with fruity, spicy, and malt aroma.

T - Lives up to the name, a total onslaught of spicy, earthy hops while the malt somewhat keeps it in check. Sweet malt on th front of the tongue with spicy citrus on the sides of the tongue. Finishes bitter and strong. The alcohol does poke through a little but doesn't detract from the experience.

M - Big medium body with a semi-dry finish.

O - A very Americanized interpretation => This is an English style on steroids.

Tall boy purchased from brewery same day, no date on can, poured into IPA glass.

A - Orange/gold with some haze. White, 1-2 finger head settles into a thin uniform layer of foam on top. Moderate lacing. Nice carbonation.

S - Subtle for the style and strength. Mango/papaya, hints of cherry, graphite, and occasional whisper of rubber (seriously...but not in a bad way).

T - Fruity and spicy; mango, berries and chiles. As those subside, spicy/biscuity malts. Long, spicy finish. Good balance of sweetness and spice; both dance on your tongue for a good few minutes after each draw.

M - Nice silkiness to this. Does to the taste buds what a sour does to the lips, or what a Ramones show used to do to the ear drums.

O - Last had this over a year ago and it's much better than I remember (or I lucked into an especially good batch). Alcohol is higher yet less prominent than in Good Problem To Have. Overall complexity and malt strength are a bit less than Shape of Hops, which is still my favorite by NCBC, but this is damn good!

The use of high alpha acid British hops is well appreciated- the pilgrim hops really come through front and center with a grapefruit hop punch each sip.

Per style it was mediocre.. Did not care for the choice of hops or overall taste. From a pounder 4 pack.
