Style: Irish Dry Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 3.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our collaborative effort for 2014′s GABF Pro-Am competition, this Smoked Irish Dry Stout was a category winner and Best of Show finalist for War of the Worts XIX (2014), brewed by Mike Dietz and Ryan Wilson from the Keystone Hops homebrewing club. This 3.8% ABV stout has the creamy mouthfeel, and roasted barley, chocolate, and coffee notes you’d come to expect from an Irish Dry Stout with the added complexity of smokiness from the use of peat smoked English malt. Don’t let the color fool you though; you can drink this stout for days, and at such an easy drinking ABV we think you just might try.

Picked up a growler at the brewery. Although it is not a nitro stout, it drinks like one. Smooth, creamy and abundant in coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Smoky aroma and flavor. As a guy who kept Beamish, Guinness and Murphys on draft in a beer cooler for over 10 years I have to recommend this beer without any reservations. Perfectly balanced and low ABV make for an enjoyable experience.

22 oz bottle poured into a NCBC pint glass. #properglassware

Appearance
Black with 2 fingers of creamy, tan head. Some ruby red highlights along the edges.

Nose
Coffee, smoke, chocolate, and roasted barley.

Taste
Mellow notes of semi-sweet chocolate and black licorice mingled with coffee & cream and roasted barley. Subtle smokiness creeps in providing extra depth.

Mouthfeel
Medium-light bodied, smooth, and semi-creamy.

Overall
Huge flavor for such a low abv. One of the best Dry Stouts I've had in a long time.

Solid beer offering with a super dense head if you give it a vigorous pour.
Taste has some smoky malts but the feel is flat on the palate.
Overall solid

Sampled December 2014 from a tap in pint glass. This is the first time that I had drank this beer.

Appearance: Very dark color with a nice tan head, and the head lasted a long time.

Smell: There are roasted malt aromas, along with some bitterness from the hops.

Taste: Full-bodied with great balance of malt and hops. There is a sweet flavor due to the malts, but it is balanced from the hops and has an excellent overall taste.

Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, but very smooth.

Overall: Good stout. I enjoyed the glass that I drank, and I would buy this again.
