Notes: "It goes without saying that if you’ve spent any time in and around the Philly area you undoubtedly have heard your fair share of Philly slang and local colloquialism. Some things just scream ‘Philly’ so bad, it almost hurts. Anyone familiar with our Head Brewer knows he’s got a fondness for the linguistic arts as well. Whether it be his loud, booming Jersey/Philly accent cutting across the room, or his late night drunken German, there’s no doubting his love for the sound of the spoken word of any native tongue. He’s also got a fondness for easy drinking, hoppy beers. What do you get when you put the together? J.A.W.N. – Juicy Ale With Nugget. This 5.2% ABV American Pale Ale is malty, yet crisp, and is loaded with dank citrus, as well as tropical and stone fruit flavor and aroma from the gratuitous use of Nugget and Zythos hops."

There’s some citric/astringent/medicine like hops in there on the nose. Not totally sure about this beer yet. Ok, on the flavor it comes through as a slightly medicinal vaguely citrus punch. Not much bitterness but the bite lingers in the aftertaste. Needs more carbonation badly. I would not seek this out again. Not sure how this gets a higher rating.

(12 oz can, Julian pack date late-Jan 2019, purchased cold... poured into nonic)

L: mid-range amber liquid, speckled with sediment; frothy head on pour, settles into misty cap, no lace

S: smells like weed when poured; deep nose dig detects strong raisin(?) scent and some mashed lemon chunks... vaguely (bourbon) whiskey tone?; perfumy-musky hops linger, leach up through back of nostrils

T: bruised grass and flowers, dried lightly-sweetish yellow fruits, honeyish bread dough plump in its base... dense, earthy malt and hop redolent; lightly perfumy-spicy hops; lightly leathery

F: plush texture and flow: pillowy body, satiny resins... dry-ish on the back end with delicate (black-)pepper-spicy heat lighting up mouth and nose

O: vaguely British nuances?... not a bad drop for something this far out from its canning - a lot to offer for 5.2%... I'll make a point of trying a more fresh example, but this wasn't half bad

On tap at their brewhouse. Poured into a pint glass.

L---Clear medium amber color. Thick head that faded and left good lacing all the way down the pint glass.

S---Hoppy, with malts as well. Citrus & floral with a bit of caramel.

T---Follows the nose, citrus & caramel.

F---Crisp & clean. Juicy, as advertised.

O---A nice offering by a good brewery. I'll take another, please.

Not very juicy and quite sweet. I sampled this at a tasting event and suspected it might be old (but why would they bring old stock to a tasting event?) but the cans weren't dated. Hmm.

I remember trying this brewer at a State College bar a couple of years back but this is the first time I've seen it in MD. J.A.W.N. pours a translucent copper with notes of floral and medicinal hops and biscuit bread. I get the juicy part now that I have had a sip. With initial hop flavors strong, the bitterness really never kicks in and you are left with plenty of pine and citrus and medicine and an otherwise wet, refreshing, decidedly un-withering texture. Definitely worth a try and seems like it would excel for sessioning.

12oz can in a nonic pint glass.

Pours a copper color, not hazy but there are some "fuzzies" floating about. The pour yields a massive billow pillow of a white cap that has strong endurance and leaves heavy rings of lacing.

Very clean hop aroma dank, floral, citrus, spice, and caramel malt.

Orange citrus and caramelized malt flavors.

The feel is ... very strong. Enough hop bite to challenge the flavors to stand and be counted.

It could benefit from better balance of feel and flavor but I had no trouble getting it down.

Copper colored beer with a rapidly fading head. Taste is caramel malts and floral hops...too many hops for my liking ...This will be the first and last time I buy this.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a tulip

L: Clear golden copper pour. Thin white head. Solid rim of lacing.

S: Sweet malts and citrusy hops. Resin.

T/F: Follows the nose. Light malts/grains. Mild caramel. Citrusy hops profile. Tangerine and grapefruit... mild tropicals. A little pine. bitter but balanced. Light bodied... easy drinking. Sweet citrus finish.

O: A solid IPA featuring Nugget hops. Good beer from a good PA brewer. Bonus points for including Philly slang in the name.

Poured into a half pint glass: color is hazy copper, head is off white with fine bubbles, head lingers and then leaves some lacing on the glass.

Smell is pleasant mix of malt, lightly toasted, hint of caramel, then moderate/strong hop aromas of earthy/piney/herbal nature.

Taste is is similar with light toasty malt, hint of caramel, earthy/herbal hops flavors with some citrus as well.

Mouthfeel is quite good with moderate carbonation and moderate lingering bitterness.

Overall a good beer with good malt and hop balance.

12 oz can from PA.
Appearance: amber color body that is clear and topped with an impressive light beige head. Very good retention.

Aroma: mild, dank and fruity

Flavor - Fruity hops upfront with citrus, grapefruit and other tropical fruits. Strong hop notes with a moderate amount of bitterness for a pale ale.

Feel - Medium bodied and medium+ soft carbonation: crisp, and semi-dry.

Overall - This is a hoppy pale that has only moderate bitterness and high drinkability.

Can from my parents, poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a nice hazy burnt orange/copper color with a level foamy cap of a white head. Lean light sporadic lace. The aroma had a nice floral crisp to spicy and bitter hops flowing freely together into a light malt base. The flavor took the spicy hops to the bitter hops and melded gently with a sly toast-like semi-sweet malt base. Aftertaste was somewhat earthy. Finish was quick and absorbent. The palate was just a touch under medium bodied with a pretty good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt right as expected. Overall, pretty good APA that I could have again.

Pours clear, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is orange peel, caramel, and pale malt. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, and slightly bitter...Not really juicy despite the marketing. Makes for an average to just above average pale ale. I feel I have had way better from the brewery.

Cloudy amber color and not much of a head poured from a can into a pint glass. Fruity smell. Hoppy on the front end sweet-ish on the back. Not really my thing but a good try at something different.

From the can, this is a balanced, flavorful pale ale. Bit of malt, bit of hops, nice drinking. I was drinking with a friend from Philly and badly needed to buy us this beer. Oh yeah.

In a pint glass on tap at Ulysses In Wilmington Delaware. Love the name and thought I would give it a try. Surprisingly drinkable. This would be a great session beer for me. I wil have to pick up some cans this summer. Enjoyed this one. Hazy Amber color. Smell was not strong but light fruit and malt. Smooth taste. Very pleasant. Good work from Neshaminy Creek.

appearance- amber color, mostly clear, and a two inch head on the pour.

aroma- Noticeably malt with a combo of caramel and bread. Some citrus hop aroma, but its mild.

taste- Sweet fruity hops upfront with orange citrus and mango. Towards the middle grapefruit is more noticeable with decent amount of bitterness for a pale ale. The malt is a good blend of caramel sweetness and dry pale malt in the finish.

feel- Medium bodied and medium carbonation, clean, crisp, and really easy to drink pale overall.

overall- This is a really good pale that has a great blend of fruity hops and more standard grapefruit/pine hops. The drinkability is great as well with a clean malt and crisp bitterness.

This is delicious and quite impressive for someone never cared for pale ales. Pours pretty yellow gold pale. Big malt nugget nutty aroma. Surprisingly very bitter and dry finish, lots of grapefruit balanced only by juicy nugget sweetness. Smooth and still smelled really good empty glass after. Great work, use of nugget hops. Drank this off the shelf cool. gotta try a cold one. The name fits, will definitely get me another one of these jawns, there's only one Philly. Thank goodness.

Copper colored with lots of miniature sediment suspended within. There's an inch of thick beige foam resting on top. The aroma is of tropical hops with notes of mango and papaya. I'm tasting more along the realm of piney to tropical hops and light malt and it's very well balanced, at that. The light malt is at the forefront and the tropical to piney hops appear at the back of the palate. The mouth is smooth and delicate.

12 oz can

Pours a slightly hazy amber golden, inch of white head retains as a sudsy lacing.

Smells of grapefruit, orange juice, pine, maple, and biscuit.

Taste is of citrus juice up front, orange and grapefruit, as well as citrus zest, followed by a mild piney and citrusy hop flavor over a dry biscuit malt.

Medium body with tingly carbonation on the tongue.

Solid juicy pale ale, decent balance of hop and juice over a more subdued malt base. Drinks easy, quenches thirst, worth trying and something I'd be willing to go back to.

Light orange amber with a finger of dense cappachino-like head that's impressively long lasting. Tangerine and pine in the aroma, continuing to the taste where it's coupled with an almost peach-like malt sweetness. Mild bitterness and slight nuttiness in the aftertaste. Soft, prickly mouthfeel. Full bodied for an APA. Not bad.

Undated can into pint glass. Pours a hazy honey color with a thin off-white head. Initial impression is mild citrus peel and tropical fruit, with malt breadiness. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Slightly dry, somewhat bitter finish. Very easy to drink and refreshing.
