J.A.W.N. is a malty, yet crisp American Pale Ale, loaded with dank citrus, as well as stone fruit flavor and aroma from the gratuitous use of Apollo, Citra, and Nugget we drop in. If you know, you know. For the Philly born and raised, baby!

The beer pours from the can into a Duvel glass a nice rich amber color with a slight haze. The 3/4” thick off white head is nice and foamy but soon begins to recede to a ring, thin layer on the surface of the liquid and some leggy patches of lacing. Sipping creates speckles and small patches of lacing that cling to the glass.

The aroma, which is first noticeable during the pour, has some pine and tropical fruit. It does seem softened a bit by some touches of caramel malt.

The flavors include a nice background of caramel sweetness but there is mostly citric grapefruit tang with some tropical fruit and touches of pine. The bitterness is most noticeable towards the back of the mouth.

The mouth feel is medium bodied and smooth with persistent very gentle carbonation. The finish is clean, dry, lightly bitter and persists for a moderately long time, leading one on to another sip. The bitterness never quite disappears but it is not unpleasant to have it there.

This is a nicely drinkable APA and I could easily have a second. Also, I think I'll be having more in future as the use of Nugget hops reminds me of Nugget Nectar but this is available year round. Also since this is a local beer it should be relatively easy to find fresh.

12oz can purchased off the shelf as part of a mix-a-six pack for $12.99. No canned on date, but it seems like it's pretty fresh.

Look: It pours out a beautiful golden orange, bordering on copper, color. It has a near perfect clarity. There was a finger and half of fine-bubbled off-white head that receded to a creamy thin layer. Looks very nice.

Smell: Nice aromas of caramel malt and bright orange zest. A bit dank up front. Secondary notes of apricot and maybe some mango. Peppery finish.

Taste: It's very tasty and super drinkable. It has an excellent balance between maltiness and hoppiness. The taste very much follows the nose. It has a nice caramelly biscuity flavor up front, a bit toasty. And then the hops take over with tons of orange zest, rind, and pith. Peppery notes on the finish. I like how a hoppy beer like this has a dry, fairly bitter finish and then as the hops recede you get that yummy caramel malt presence coming back.

Feel: Medium bodied with a relatively crisp finish. Nicely carbonated.

Overall: It's been a while since I've had a Neshaminy Creek beer. This is nice. It reminds me a bit of Half Acre's Daisy Cutter Pale Ale, which is certainly a compliment. A very solid beer. I wanted to try this one before I go for Coffee JAWN so that I could know what the base beer tastes like.

12 oz can poured into an IPA glass. Look is slightly hazed amber color with a frothy white head that falls to a cap. Lacing is left along the sides of glass. Smell is grapefruit rind, citrus fruit, and pine resin. Taste hits with grapefruit up front, nice malt balance in the middle, finishes with pine, mild citrus, and a drying bitterness. Aftertaste is short and more grapefruit. Feel is lightly carbonated, medium bodied. Overall, it's tasty, I enjoy it, but it tastes more like a light IPA as opposed to a solid pale ale.

Draft at brewery. Dark golden with one finger fluffy head. Light malty aroma. Taste makes the malts and hops more apparent, and theres a light smoky presence in there as well. Nice feel, but i wouldnt consider it juicy.

There’s some citric/astringent/medicine like hops in there on the nose. Not totally sure about this beer yet. Ok, on the flavor it comes through as a slightly medicinal vaguely citrus punch. Not much bitterness but the bite lingers in the aftertaste. Needs more carbonation badly. I would not seek this out again. Not sure how this gets a higher rating.

(12 oz can, Julian pack date late-Jan 2019, purchased cold... poured into nonic)

L: mid-range amber liquid, speckled with sediment; frothy head on pour, settles into misty cap, no lace

S: smells like weed when poured; deep nose dig detects strong raisin(?) scent and some mashed lemon chunks... vaguely (bourbon) whiskey tone?; perfumy-musky hops linger, leach up through back of nostrils

T: bruised grass and flowers, dried lightly-sweetish yellow fruits, honeyish bread dough plump in its base... dense, earthy malt and hop redolent; lightly perfumy-spicy hops; lightly leathery

F: plush texture and flow: pillowy body, satiny resins... dry-ish on the back end with delicate (black-)pepper-spicy heat lighting up mouth and nose

O: vaguely British nuances?... not a bad drop for something this far out from its canning - a lot to offer for 5.2%... I'll make a point of trying a more fresh example, but this wasn't half bad

On tap at their brewhouse. Poured into a pint glass.

L---Clear medium amber color. Thick head that faded and left good lacing all the way down the pint glass.

S---Hoppy, with malts as well. Citrus & floral with a bit of caramel.

T---Follows the nose, citrus & caramel.

F---Crisp & clean. Juicy, as advertised.

O---A nice offering by a good brewery. I'll take another, please.
