Pennsylvania breweries are known for world-class lagers, and this 2013 Great American Beer Fest Gold Medal winning Vienna-style, no fuss amber lager is clean, crisp, and brewed with Munich, and Vienna malts that give it a touch of malt backbone and toast-like character. Hopped exclusively with German Tettnanger hops, it’s got enough hop bitterness to counter that malt backbone as well. Lagered for six-weeks, Churchville Lager comes in at 4.9% ABV, and is the perfect beer for a night out with friends, and family, or the holiday BBQ. Don’t be afraid to order the new ‘Lager’ in town.

DATE: July 18, 2019... OCCASION: Discovery's Shark Week in effect, with the beach trip looming... GLASSWARE: nondescript footed lager... this pours an attractive amber body, thick with off-white clumps of spongy froth built by persistent teaming bubbles... its aroma is nutty, with caramel, toasted malts, and toffee, while some noble hops sweeten the aroma--this suggests a rather robust experience for a lager under 4.9%... this sips well, rich and creamy like an old-world lager soul be...and at that, a subtle tug at the teeth reminds this has hops enough to be multi-dimensional... its flavor profile is rewarding, with caramel and toffee sweetening the experience--the toasted malts make this a sweet sipper indeed, with enough noble hops to balance the experience into a worthwhile, highly drinkable Vienna... in fact, a woody, oaken flavor is present, as is the nuttiness... this doesn't reach the heights of, say, a Boston Lager or an Eliot Ness, but it have a requisite sweetness that is winning enough to wish for another round--in fact, the variety pack this came from has more than availed itself...

(12 oz can, purchased cold in a six-pack, julian canning date around mid-Feb; poured into a simple glass mug)
L: crystal-clear, deep orange-amber liquid; tan-colored, loose, spongy foam builds high... scant lacing
S: toasty, fruity-sweetish malt, with an earthy, musky, herbal hop floating atop... even after the palate is saturated with its flavors, the herbal tone of the hops (and yeast?) still pokes through
T: notable spicy hop bite humming above the dark-bready, caramel-y malts below; herbal hop bitterness buzzing long through the aftertaste
F: lightly-rounded malty body, delicate residual viscosity in the finish; slight biting warmth via the hops and maybe also alcohol; aftertaste is relatively dry (vaguely parching? but not to a detriment)
O: got this as a substitute when I couldn't find what I'd sought at the local store; despite the buck or two price hike for a somewhat local beer, the quality (even for a 4-month old sixer) was pretty darn good, and I'd definitely buy it again (soon)

From the can into a Perfect Pint glass. The look is clear, amber with a slightly off-white head that settles into a nice swirling/lacing on top. Some carbonation bubbles continuing to rise to the top as it sits. Looks pretty nice. The smell is clean and balanced. The lightly toasted malt aroma and the herbal hop aroma play nice together as neither one really dominates. At first, the sip is sweet malt. Then the hops give a nice balance to the sweetness and the beer finishes with a doughy, bready flavor that is pleasant and clean. I'd say the beer has a nice medium body to it. Not too bad of a mouthfeel as there is enough carbonation to keep it lively, but the carbonation doesn't dominate the mouth. Overall, I enjoyed this one and I would definitely go back to the well for a few more.

Nice lager. A little bite, but not too strong. Just the right balance for my taste.

12 ounce can in a Sam's perfect pint glass.
Pours a nearly clear copper amber color. The 2F white fluff is linen colored and drops quickly and leaves splashes of lacing.
Aromas of toasty malts and clean cut grass. German hops offer light floral notes.
Tastes like a caramelized light grain biscuit, lightly buttered and sweet.
Feel is light, crisp and very fresh. A bit sweet.
Good version that drinks nicely.

Had this on tap at the Federal Taproom in State College on the Friday before the 2018 season opener verses App. State.
Poured amber in color with a thin head that had little lasting power.
Aroma: Getting a definite balance, as both MALTS (says it is brewed with both Munich and Vienna Malts) and hops (that are exclusively German Tettnanger).
TASTE: Balance continued as some hop bitterness and the some toasty malts show up with each sip.
This was a night with a party of 8, looking forward to the next days game. My focus on the beer was minimal but I enjoyed this draft.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Clear copper/amber pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head. Falls fast... nice lacing.
S: Malty. Sweet and biscuity.
T.F: Follows the nose. Sweet toasted malts and light grains. Balanced with mild hop bitterness. Caramel and earth. Light and easy drinking.
O: A solid Vienna Lager... very sessionable and a great dinner beer.
