I always welcome peanut putter in a beer, but it's hard to do right. I do enjoy that it's a porter for a base this time around instead of a stout

Pours a very dark brown with a slight red glow and a finger of off white head that quickly fades to a cap and leaves no lacing

The nose is a bit one dimensional on this one. Mostly just salted peanuts and milk chocolate. There's really not much roast behind this one, just a hint of crackery malt and a touch of caramel

The taste is at least more interesting here. To start things off, I get peanuts and roasted barley to keep it balanced. On th swallow, a hint of chocolate comes in to smooth things out, along with linger notes of peanut butter, dark bread, and just a touch of hops. A better taste than I expected

A medium body pairs with light tingly carbonation that offers a smooth drink. However, it drinks a little too sticky. It could probably stand to lose some abv to make it more dry without losing flavor

This was pretty good, but I don't think I could have too many of these. A passable peanut butter beer with a light porter resemblance

Evil Genius "Purple Monkey Dishwasher"
on tap @ Union Jack's Pub, Manayunk, PA

Notes: Very deep mahogany brown colored body. Short-lived head of creamy tan froth. Lacing leaves a bit to be desired as well. Aroma clearly expresses peanut butter, but there's some sweet milk chocolate and bittersweet dark chocolate as well. No, or very limited, roastiness. Medium bodied and creamy-smooth (which seems quite appropriate) with a moderate carbonation. Peanut butter returns in the flavor but it's not as full as the nose suggests with the chocolatey notes taking a much greater part of the stage. It's not particularly roasty (again, as appropriate) but there is some coffee-like flavor and dark malt acidity, which along with a firm bitterness balances it quite nicely, leaving just a bit of the sweet malt you'd expect in a peanut butter porter. It's gently caramelish and, obviously, nutty. The only hops that are found are mild and dull, appearing in the lingering finish. An interesting and enjoyable beer. It's certainly not the first, but it's one of the better peanut butter porters I've had.

A - Looks quite good deep dark porter slight ruby hues. Head is good a 1/2 inch of mocha head that sticks around to a good thick lace ring.
S - Great roasted peanut butter smells with coffee and cocoa notes. Smells like liquid bliss.
T - Sweeter chocolate and less roast than the terrapin offering. Some roasted coffee but very little twang. Has a good peanut butter taste. Best beer they ever brewed.
M - Medium bodied has a good chewy taste. I can dig it.

Overall while most of their brews are experimental home brew like taste this one was pulled off better than commercial offerings. I would buy this again!

I like my porters and stouts robust and full-bodied. So when I poured Purple Monkey, I was thinking, "uh-oh." Thin-bodied, almost no head, and reeking of peanuts--not a good sign. Expecting dire, I was mildly happy getting mediocre. The beer is unbalanced through the glass, sometimes hitting alcohol pockets, or heavily peanut-y sips. The peanut taste seems confectionate, not entirely natural despite the brewer's claims. Maybe one too many times through the dishwasher?

The store where I work has three permutations of this style: Sweet Baby Jesus, Terrapin Liquid Bliss and this. Not really my cup of tea, but if that's what your shooting for the most faithful is this one. Which is to say the peanut butter chocolate character really shines here. Couldn't down a number of them, but enjoyed the one I had and appreciated the craft.

Evil Genius - Purple Monkey Dishwasher ABV. - 6.7%, IBU - 35 Drank in a tulip glass
Eye: It is black as night, tan head that shrinks to a centimeter
Nose: It smells like chocolate and peanut butter, peanuts, coffee
Tongue: It is very consistent with the smell of the beer with more there. To me, that is the sign of a good beer. It has chocolate, peanut butter, roasted peanuts, coffee, dark roasted malts. It is sweet, but not overly that way.
Moulth: It is a bit thinner than sweet baby jesus, maybe more like Terrapin LIquid Bliss and there is not that bitter aftertaste. You have to drink it for a almost an entire glass to get any kind of aftertaste, or any lingering effects. It feels like they use lactose sugar in the brewing because it does have a chocolate peanut butter ice cream taste to me.
Overall: I am such a big peanut butter and chocolate addict that it almost could do no wrong, but this is a really good product. And in fact, you could easily mess this up. If you are a big fan of chocolate, peanut butter, and stouts this beer is a good one.

Peanut butter/adjunct porters are not my favorite style, but this is not bad. The peanut is a bit too heavy in terms of both smell and taste. There is a nice bitterness -- if this beer were too sweet, I think I would really hate it.
